Olivia Fitzpatrick, 29, has $7,000 in student debt in Australia, but she's not too worried about it. Olivia Fitzpatrick, 29, has just over 10,000 Australian dollars, or about $6,790, in student debt — and even as a financial educator on social media, it's not a concern for her. If I started earning significantly more over the next year, I would consider paying off the debt just for the feeling of having no student debt and also more cash flow from working." She said she doesn't have any regrets about taking on student loans because it was a "great return on investment" for her. This is a dilemma American student-loan borrowers are all too familiar with.

It was the compromise debt limit deal — not the employment number — that caused the market to rally. The shorts were correct to press their bets if there was no debt deal and we got an employment number that was a steamer. A short squeeze happens when short sellers having to buy stocks to cover their short positions, pushing prices higher. I say no, no more than you needed in 2011, when the debt ceiling deal led to a fantastic rally because Armageddon was avoided. WASHINGTON — House Republicans reached a tentative deal with the White House on Saturday night to raise the nation's borrowing limit and avoid a catastrophic default on U.S. sovereign debt. "I expect to finish the writing of the bill, checking with the White House and speaking to the president again tomorrow afternoon," said the California Republican, "Then posting the text of it tomorrow, and then be voting on it on Wednesday." The White House has invited all House Democrats to attend a virtual briefing on Sunday afternoon, presumably to explain what is in the deal and urge Democrats to vote for it. Nonetheless, many Republicans have come to view the biennial vote to raise the debt limit as an opportunity to extract concessions from Democrats in exchange for their votes to avoid a debt default. Unless the debt limit were raised in time and the government was allowed to borrow more, "Our projected resources would be inadequate to satisfy all of these obligations."
Biden joined Irish Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and other members of Congress for the traditional St. Patrick's Day Friends of Ireland Luncheon. Biden and McCarthy are set to meet at 5:30 p.m. WASHINGTON — White House negotiators and representatives of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy resumed debt ceiling talks Monday morning, as President Joe Biden prepared to meet with McCarthy face to face with only 10 days to go until the U.S. risks default. Biden is hoping to reach a debt limit deal that would push the next deadline out past the 2024 presidential election. But House Republicans, who so far have endorsed only a one-year hike, say that if Biden wants more time, then he will need to agree to even more cuts.
In any case, one outcome that many hold with a high degree of certainty is that financial markets are going to feel pain if the "x-date" bell tolls. This $31 trillion debt ceiling argument "comes at the worst possible time," according to Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee. "Many past instances of debt limit standoffs have been resolved without significant market fallout," the strategists wrote in a recent note. That's according to LPL chief global strategist Quincy Krosby — she says it boils down to these three reasons. With recession risks climbing, Bank of America analysts slashed their 2023 outlook for oil prices.
Fitzpatrick is among a group of powerful Republican state leaders who have waged similar fights against environmentally conscious investing as they held personal investments in, or saw political support from, the fossil fuel industry. Some of the state officials have received campaign donations from fossil fuel companies or their executives. "He has never 'had private briefings tied back to the fossil fuel industry' nor does he personally direct or execute trades himself. Hegar co-signed an open letter in 2021 with other state financial officers that was addressed to the U.S. banking industry and defended the fossil fuel industry. He also co-signed the 2022 letter to Biden from a slate of other state financial officers defending the fossil fuel industry.
The triumphant pair on Sunday will also receive a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour. The Fitzpatrick brothers will pair together at the Zurich Classic. The golf world is very different from when I started to when he’s playing now so he’s going to focus on the Challenge Tour probably, he’s excited for that. Yet Fitzpatrick – dubbed the hardest-working golfer on the PGA Tour – has no intention of accepting his place in the food chain. “I’m constantly looking at ways to improve and get better, and that’s what’s really important is to keep pushing myself and try and catch them up.”

REUTERS/Kevin LamarqueDUBLIN, April 13 (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden, a proud Irish-American, took his three-day tour of Ireland to Dublin on Thursday for an address to parliament and a banquet at Dublin Castle as his focus shifted from Northern Irish peace to celebrating his heritage. It feels like I'm coming home," Biden told journalists on Wednesday afternoon as he toured Carlingford Castle, near the home of one of the Irish branches of his family. Biden will be guest of honour at a banquet at St Patrick's Hall in Dublin Castle on Thursday evening, an honour previously given to Queen Elizabeth II and U.S. President John F. Kennedy. Biden will be accompanied for some of his Dublin engagements by Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who is visiting Ireland before travelling to Vietnam and Japan.
Ahead of St. Patrick's Day, I visited McSorley's Old Ale House, which was established in 1854. I was also surprised by how it made me feel pride as an Irish American. AdvertisementI've lived in New York City for almost four years, but I have never been to McSorley's, the oldest Irish pub in the city. Not only is McSorley's the most historic Irish tavern in New York, but it's also often called the oldest Irish tavern in America that's still in operation. Established in 1854, McSorley's is celebrating its 170th anniversary this year, and it is certainly the place to go around St. Patrick's Day.

McCarthy, the top Republican in the House of Representatives, first met with Biden on Feb. 1. But a standoff has since ensued between Republicans who want to use the debt ceiling to exact spending cuts from the White House, and Biden, who wants the debt ceiling raised without strings attached. "I just saw the president again on St. Patrick's Day, Friday," McCarthy told reporters in Orlando, Florida, where House Republicans are holding a retreat this week. Biden has called on McCarthy and House Republicans to produce a fiscal 2024 budget before negotiating on spending. "I said: look, we're not going to raise taxes and we're not going to pass a clean debt ceiling.
DUBLIN, March 18 (Reuters) - Ireland completed their fourth Six Nations Grand Slam with a 29-16 victory over England at a pulsating Aviva Stadium on Saturday, emphatically underlining their status as the world's top-ranked team heading into September's World Cup. What a group of coaches," Ireland captain Johnny Sexton, playing in his final Six Nations game, said in a pitchside interview. If it looked like Ireland would cruise towards a Grand Slam in Dublin, following success in Twickenham (2018), Cardiff (2009) and Belfast (1948), England had other ideas and another Owen Farrell penalty after the break made it 10-9. "We've built some foundations over the course of the Six Nations but clearly we want to be a better team." The defeat consigned England to fourth place in the table and a third successive Six Nations with more defeats than victories after winning the championship in 2020.

As detailed in a release announcing the news, the 11 banks, which also included Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, believe the move "demonstrates their overall commitment to helping banks serve their customers and communities. I can't imagine the big banks looking to pull the rug out from First Republic four months from now, but this money was a deposit, not a donation. March 17 (Reuters) - Crystal Palace sacked manager Patrick Vieira after 20 months in charge on Friday after their 1-0 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion left them three points above the Premier League relegation zone. Palace are the only side in the league without a win in 2023, having drawn five and lost six of their games. Their last league win came on Dec. 31, 2-0 at Bournemouth, and they are 12th on 27 points with 11 games to play. Vieira, 46, guided Palace to a 12th-placed finish and an FA Cup semi-final run in his first season in charge, earning praise for an attacking style of play. The club did not confirm who would replace Vieira or take charge of Sunday's Premier League trip to leaders Arsenal.

Under a deal struck in December, Trump would sub-lease 17 acres of his Bronx golf course to Bally's. Bally's bid for a new casino on the city-owned grounds of Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point was first reported on Sunday by the New York Post. Proposals must be approved by a local community advisory committee that includes the governor, the mayor, the local state senator and assembly member, the borough president, and the local city council member. "We are incredibly excited at the prospect of bringing Bally's community-centered approach to gaming and entertainment to the Bronx," a casino spokesperson told Insider. One of those leaders is local city council member Marjorie Velazquez, who applauded the prospect of bringing jobs to her neighborhood.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Tuesday said that investors still have a chance to buy homebuilder stocks before a possible run-up. "The charts, as interpreted by Dan Fitzpatrick, suggest that we're looking at a truly counterintuitive bull market in the homebuilders, and even though that's not supposed to happen at this point in the business cycle, the bulls keep running anyway," he said. The Federal Reserve has raised interest rates over the last year to tamp down inflation, hammering stocks of every industry from tech to retail to financials. However, the action in homebuilder stocks from recent months suggests that they're going against the tide, according to Cramer. To explain Fitzpatrick's analysis, he examined the daily chart of the Dow Jones U.S. Home Construction index.

Two armed men arrested in connection with online threats against New York City's Jewish community had a Manhattan synagogue in their sights, a prosecutor said Sunday. The two had traveled to Pennsylvania late last week to purchase a gun, prosecutors said in the charging documents. "I changed my mind because I was nervous about the police and didn't want the gun anymore," Brown is quoted as saying. Mahrer ultimately purchased the weapon from the man who drove them out of state, Brown said, according to prosecutors. Earlier in the week, Brown is also alleged to have tweeted, "Big moves being made on Friday."
