MEXICO CITY, July 5 (Reuters) - Mexican airline Viva Aerobus has signed a memorandum of understanding to purchase 90 Airbus A321neo aircraft, the carrier said on Wednesday, in a deal likely worth several billion dollars. The companies did not name a price for the aircraft, and Airbus no longer publishes catalog prices. The agreement brings Viva's order book up to 170 Airbus aircraft, the carrier said in a statement, all part of the A320 family. In April, Viva signed an agreement with SAF producer Neste (NESTE.HE) to purchase 1 million liters of the fuel. Viva said the aircraft order would drive both domestic and international growth plans, taking into account that Mexico is expected to recover a U.S. air safety rating in coming months.

Boeing's newest military tanker is the KC-46A Pegasus, which can refuel other planes in midair. Boeing is one of the world's leading defense manufacturers providing advanced military aircraft for the US armed forces and allied nations. While Boeing's defense arm is military-focused, it has used its commercial planes as a blueprint for production. One of its biggest — yet controversial — jets is the KC-46A Pegasus aerial refueling tanker, which was derived from the Boeing 767 widebody airliner. The Pegasus is Boeing's newest air refueler, having started production in February 2011 and sending its first to the US Air Force in January 2019.

REUTERS/Amit Dave/File PhotoPARIS/DELHI, June 28 (Reuters) - Indian aerospace suppliers see record jet orders by the country's top two carriers boosting domestic parts manufacturing and aircraft repairs, but argue the government must do more to support production. Rising traffic, a search for alternative sourcing to China and orders this month from Air India and IndiGo for nearly 1,000 jets combined have made India a key market for aerospace. "We deserve a piece of that pie," added Sardessai, whose company makes engine and plane interior parts. While he could not estimate how much small suppliers will benefit, any subsidy or incentive could be helpful. AEROSPACE INCENTIVESSome suppliers like Sardessai and Aravind Melligeri, CEO of aerospace-parts producer Aequs, said India should create a production-linked incentive scheme for aerospace as it has done with other sectors.

The world's third-largest aircraft maker after Airbus (AIR.PA) and Boeing (BA.N), Embraer bagged 13 fresh orders for commercial jets at the Paris Airshow, falling short of market estimates and previous years' levels. The 13 new orders compared with 74 secured at Le Bourget in 2019 and 28 in Farnborough last year. They also lagged some upbeat market forecasts, including expectations by JPMorgan analysts for at least 30 orders. In Paris, investors were especially disappointed by the lack of orders from the booming Indian airline market, which handled an all-time-high 500-plane transaction to Airbus and new orders to Boeing. "We believe that most of the pre-event excitement has already been adjusted in share prices," said XP Investimentos, while also rates Embraer a "buy."

PARIS, June 22 (Reuters) - The first Paris Airshow in four years has clocked up billions of dollars in commercial jet orders and offered some respite for suppliers as air travel springs back sharply from the pandemic. The industry returned to Le Bourget with high expectations of commercial orders and low expectations regarding the supply chain, but generated a more balanced picture on both fronts. Announced orders reached near-record levels but were heavily dominated by two airlines leading the charge in India, the world's fastest growing market: IndiGo (INGL.NS) and Air India. A key focus of the show was how those planes will be produced after the pandemic disrupted supply chains. Several major companies said they had built up more buffer stocks and were seeing signs of improvement in supply chains.

PARIS, June 21 (Reuters) - Airbus (AIR.PA) has filled more than half of the 13,000 positions it expects to create in 2023, as aerospace manufacturers try to boost staff numbers to meet soaring demand, the European planemaker said on Wednesday. Planemakers and aerospace suppliers are wrestling with shortages of workers, from engineers to machine shop operators, which is holding back plans to ramp up aircraft production needed to meet soaring travel demand. Airbus said it had filled more than 7,000 positions so far. Of the 7,000-plus hires, 29% are aged 28 or below, a trend that Baril expects will continue through year’s end, he told Reuters in an interview. But it was surpassed on day one of the Paris show by Indian rival IndiGo's (INGL.NS) order for 500 Airbus narrowbody jets. Air India said it was worth $70 billion at list prices, though airlines typically get discounts on big orders worth at least half the headline price, analysts say. The Airbus part comprises 210 A320neo and A321neo narrowbody jets and 40 A350 widebodies. "Our ambitious fleet renewal and expansion programme will see Air India operate the most advanced and fuel-efficient aircraft across our route network within five years," Air India Chief Executive Campbell Wilson said in a statement. The mega-order will also put Air India on a stronger footing to compete with budget rival IndiGo, which has a majority share of the Indian market and a strong position in regional flights.

NEW DELHI/PARIS, June 20 (Reuters) - Record plane orders by India's top two carriers show the country's untapped potential for air travel and its rise as an aviation superpower, but recent airline failures and rows over regulations suggest progress may not be smooth. A day later, rival Air India firmed up an order for 470 Airbus and Boeing (BA.N) aircraft that, until Monday, had been the industry leading plane deal. LEASING CONCERNSBut while the opportunity in India is big, so are the risks, says Ameya Joshi, an independent aviation analyst. Leasing companies warn that restrictions on repossessing their assets in case of defaults will drive up costs for all Indian airlines - even for IndiGo and Air India. It will eventually help Indian airlines by lowering risk and moderating lease rental costs," said Joshi.

PARIS, June 20 (Reuters) - Lockheed Martin (LMT.N) has raised concerns with the U.S. Defense Department and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) about L3Harris's (LHX.N) acquisition of Aerojet Rocketdyne (AJRD.N), Lockheed's chief operating officer said on Tuesday. Frank St John told Reuters that Lockheed, Aerojet's biggest customer, wanted L3Harris to ensure access to rocket motors, fair pricing and IP protections, adding it had received "little response" from L3Harris over its concerns. If L3Harris continues to be unresponsive, Lockheed wants the Defense Department or FTC to put in place a mechanism to guarantee access to technology, St John said. L3Harris, Aerojet Rocketdyne, the FTC and Defense Department did not immediately respond to emailed requests for comment. Lockheed had previously attempted to buy Aerojet in a $4.4 billion deal, but walked away from the acquisition in February 2022 after the FTC sued to block the deal, citing concerns that Lockheed could hinder competitors' fair access to Aerojet products.

PARIS/TORONTO, June 18 (Reuters) - A year ahead of the Paris Olympics, flying taxi maker Volocopter wants to prove to executives at the Paris Airshow it is on track to ferry customers around the sporting showcase and take off globally. Success could boost the broader urban air mobility sector by persuading risk-averse investors that air taxis are worth putting money into, analysts and executives said. No flying taxi maker, whether Germany's Lilium or American player Joby, has received certification so far. Air mobility projects that went public through special purpose acquisition companies (SPAC) in recent years have lost at least 30% of their initial value. Venture capital is down across several industries, with a shift in spend from air taxis to drones, Riedel said.
