Hurricane Helene affected at least 48,000 acres of pecan trees, according to UGA. The overall economic impact of Hurricane Helene on Georgia’s entire agriculture industry is estimated at $6.46 billion, according to UGA. Hurricane Helene was also crippling for farmers in Georgia because it hit just six years after Hurricane Michael, Wells said. ‘Not… a single pecan’Moses said the damage from Hurricane Helene means she and her husband “will not harvest a single pecan” this season. At the Moses pecan farm, Taylor Moses said she and her husband have had long, emotional conversations about whether to replant their pecan trees.

Newsom is far from the only Democratic governor preparing to take on Trump. In blue states like Illinois, Massachusetts and New York, officials are already vowing to mount legal and policy fights against the incoming Trump administration on issues like abortion rights, environmental regulations, gun control, immigration enforcement and more. But the second Trump era will offer Democratic officials opportunities to showcase their own leadership as they position themselves for potential future runs. A less combative toneSome Democratic governors, including those widely seen as potential 2028 presidential contenders, did not immediately take aim at Trump’s incoming administration. “Finally, let’s root for the success of the new administration and keep working together to get things done.”Pennsylvania Gov.

For one, the market was already in a sturdy uptrend, the S & P ahead by 20% in 2024 by October. Now, the S & P is up 44% in the past 18 months and the P/E is above 22 on more elevated margins. Here's the S & P 500 Value vs Growth relationship since 2014. His call is for investors to fade any near-term rally that takes the S & P above his 6100 "bull case" target for year end. For sure, the S & P 500 is by some measures running a bit hot, pushing above the top end of its two-year bull-market path.

"Arcane," a television adaptation of Riot Games' "League of Legends," is back on Netflix. The gig was at Riot Games, a young video game company founded in 2006 that had launched its debut title "League of Legends" the year before. Film and television isn't Riot Games' primary business; video games like "League of Legends" are. A genuinely good television series like "Arcane" not only engages current players who may spend money on in-game cosmetics, but brings new eyes to the franchise. The real-life cosmetics, like the "Arcane" season two drop with Fenty Beauty, probably don't hurt either.

Jurors will deliberate from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday until they reach a verdict, according to WTHR. Last month, 16 Allen County residents were selected to serve on the jury, including four people serving as alternates, WTHR said. “I believe the evidence is firmly convincing that Richard Allen is Bridge Guy and he killed Abby and Libby,” McLeland told the jury. Prosecutors drew attention to the .40-caliber unspent round found by the girls’ bodies, which a prosecution expert testified matched Allen’s pistol. He also pointed out that Allen still lived in Delphi for more than five years after the girls were killed.

Space industry experts told Business Insider that Musk's influence over Trump could help advance his business interests, including sending the first crewed mission to Mars. "I'm hugely optimistic about what's going to happen in space now," Michelle Hanlon, executive director of the Center for Air and Space Law at the University of Mississippi School of Law, told Business Insider. Hanlon's optimism isn't unfounded, especially if Trump's second term focuses on space as much as his first. AdvertisementDuring his first term, from 2017 to 2021, Trump's administration founded the Space Force, re-launched the National Space Council, and established NASA's Artemis program. A spokesperson for Trump's campaign said that Musk's ideas and efficiency will benefit federal bureaucracy but his role in Trump's administration remains under wraps.

The exact number of people who could face deportation after arriving in the U.S. legally is not known, but it is estimated to be in the hundreds of thousands. Trump’s plan to end the two Biden programs comes as the president-elect’s promised plan to carry out mass deportations is taking clearer shape. The sources cautioned, though, that they may not be considered top priorities for deportation after Trump takes office, but could still be deported eventually. Since the migrants entered the U.S. legally, any attempt by Trump to deport them will likely be challenged in court by various groups. Trump used a similar policy at the end of his first term when the U.S. deported migrants from third countries to Guatemala.

Yet Durham found that no senior FBI or CIA officials had committed crimes. Former intelligence officials disagree on whether Trump would seek to use the spy agencies against domestic political opponents, and if he did, how the intelligence workforce and courts would respond. Presidents face few legal constraints when it comes to their authority over the intelligence agencies, legal experts and former senior officials said. Supporters of Trump say dire warnings about the future of the intelligence agencies under a new Trump administration are hysterical and overblown, and that his record at the White House shows that he strengthened the spy agencies. “And the other is the risk that the intelligence agencies will be directed to do things that are either unlawful or inappropriate.”

The reality is that both parties learn lessons from losing elections that apply only in the short term — say, from one presidential election to the next midterm or from one midterm to the next presidential election. Not anymore — it’s why Democrats usually overperform in special elections, with more devoted “every election” voters right now. Meanwhile, in the non-battlegrounds, which were more affected by the basic “mood music” of the election, Democrats were shellacked. The seeds of discontent with this version of the Democratic Party can be traced back a decade to Obama’s decision to anoint Hillary Clinton as his successor. Lan revealed that, as of the end of 2023, China had an enormous hidden debt balance of 14.3 trillion yuan ($1.99 trillion). Officials aim to trim that amount to 2.3 trillion yuan ($320 billion) by 2028. Hitting a growth targetThe scale of the debt swap, seen as underwhelming by some investors, was largely in line with the expectations of economists. Still, at this pace of growth, there’s a risk Beijing may miss its growth target rate of around 5%. The dollar further unwound some of its sharp gains from earlier in the week as traders closed out profitable bets on a Trump presidency after his election victory. That helped lift sterling back toward the $1.30 mark, while the yen similarly got some respite and hovered closer to the 153 per dollar level. Sterling last traded $1.2983, recovering from its fall to a roughly three-month low earlier in the week.
