ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Josh Allen threw two touchdown passes and ran for another — shrugging off aggravating an injury to his throwing shoulder — and the Buffalo Bills hung on to beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 24-18 on Thursday night. After a week of questions about his “low-energy” approach and Buffalo's slow-starting offense, Allen came through for the Bills (5-3), throwing for 324 yards on 31-of-40 passing. Buffalo’s defense limited the Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield-led attack to less than 200 yards of offense through three quarters and 302 overall. But it took Tampa Bay 17 plays and 7:21 to march 92 yards for that score. Allen took advantage, topping 300 yards for the 23rd time in his career.

The game was delayed for about five minutes while players from both teams gathered around him on the field. Charter and Disney have reached a rights deal, and the media industry was duped. Slate's headline the same day honed in further: "Disney Is in a Fight That Might Change TV Forever." But there's a reason why Dolan discussed this concept a decade ago and still linear cable TV exists. Charter still makes money by offering linear cable TV. Magnets of traffic and congestion, drive-thrus discourage walking, public transit use and visits to neighboring businesses. A host of cities and regions want the sprawl to stop: Atlanta lawmakers will vote this summer on whether to ban new drive-thrus in the popular Beltline area. Minneapolis; Fair Haven, New Jersey; Creve Coeur, Missouri; Orchard Park, New York, and other cities have banned new drive-thrus in recent years. Experts say pedestrian safety can be improved by tightly managing access along arterial roads and locating drive-thrus away from them. Cities push backAtlanta City Councilman Jason Dozier proposed a bill this year to block new drive-thrus around the Atlanta Beltline, a pedestrian trail along a 22-mile railroad corridor.

Mandatory Credit: Kareem Elgazzar-USA TODAY SportsJan 22 (Reuters) - Quarterback Joe Burrow overcame driving snow and a hostile road environment, leading the Cincinnati Bengals past the favored Buffalo Bills 27-10 and reaching the AFC Championship game for the second straight year. "Complete game from everybody - offense, defense and special teams," said Burrow, who threw for 242 yards and two touchdowns. The Bengals will return next Sunday to Kansas City for a rematch of last year's AFC Championship game against the Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, which the Bengals won 27-24 in an overtime thriller. Cincinnati running back Joe Mixon praised his quarterback for living up to his nickname of Joe Cool in Sunday's pressure-packed game. "Joe Burrow was unbelievable," Mixon said.
Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin joined his teammate on Sunday ahead of their playoff game against Cincinnati Bengals, the same team they were playing when he collapsed on national TV. The Bills posted video of Hamlin in cart inside Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York, with the message, "Welcome home." Hamlin was spotted entering the Bills locker room, ahead of the Bills-Bengals playoff game. Buffalo was playing at Cincinnati on "Monday Night Football" on Jan. 2 when Hamlin appeared to make a routine tackle of Bengals receiver Tee Higgins. Hamlin got up from the tackle and then appeared to go limp and fall backward.
Damar Hamlin is not attending the Buffalo Bills game on Sunday, despite prior reports. A source told the AP Hamlin is expected to attend the game, but later said "plans may have changed." The player confirmed on Twitter shortly before kickoff he is "supporting from home." Fellow Bills safety Matt Milano shared images of the player smiling and shaking hands with a teammate on his Instagram story. Hamlin's Saturday return to Orchard Park comes after he spent more than a week in the hospital in critical condition.

Hamlin has been released and returned to Buffalo. Hamlin has been the target of unwavering support of football fans since his cardiac arrest in the first quarter of last week's "Monday Night Football" game at Paycor Stadium. On-field medical staff rushed to Hamlin and administered CPR before he was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center where the player had been treated until his departure Monday. 1 and 2 teams meet in the conference title game, the top seed would get to host.

With 19 teams still in the postseason hunt entering the final weekend, there was no shortage of gridiron suspense unfolding across the United States. At every stadium before kickoff there was an announcement acknowledging Hamlin and the first responders and medical caregivers. But the Bills that provided Hamlin with the best tribute of all, harnessing their emotions to secure a victory and the AFC second seed. 1 seed in the NFC with a 22-16 win over the visiting New York Giants on Sunday. Hurts led six scoring drives and the Eagles never trailed the Giants (9-7-1), who had already sewn up the No. 6 seed and opted to rest quarterback Daniel Jones, Pro Bowl running back Saquon Barkley and other starters. Smith finished the regular season with 4,282 yards passing, surpassing Russell Wilson's team record of 4,219 set in 2016. Baltimore's Anthony Brown was 19-of-44 passing for 286 yards and two interceptions in his first career NFL start.
It was the team's first game since the Bills' safety, Damar Hamlin, collapsed and suffered cardiac arrest in the midst of a Monday night game against the Bengals in Cincinnati — and the team said its stunning success from the very start of the game was in Hamlin's honor. After Hines' second kickoff return for a touchdown occurred in the third quarter of the game, fans and teammates went wild. Trainers surrounded Hamlin and he received CPR for several minutes as the Bills knelt to pray on the field. "Thankful for everyone who has reached out and prayed," Hamlin tweeted. The NFL said Hamlin will receive his full $825,000 for 2022 despite landing on the injured reserve list.

Damar Hamlin remains center stage of key Bills-Pats matchup

Damar Hamlin, the 24-year-old Bills safety who went into cardiac arrest during Buffalo's game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night, will be at the forefront of hearts and minds. Good news came Thursday when Buffalo announced that Hamlin has shown "remarkable improvement" and "appears to be neurologically intact" despite remaining in critical condition. Every team across the league has been offering their support, too, and the Patriots (8-8) were no exception. McDermott said Thursday that Mario Hamlin, Damar's father, told Bills players to focus on Sunday's regular-season finale because it is what Damar Hamlin would want. "They got several good players, but (Josh) Allen by himself is a tough matchup for any player, any defense."
A potential cause of Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin's jarring collapse and cardiac arrest — witnessed in real time by millions of viewers watching "Monday Night Football" — was immediately recognized by heart experts who also happened to be watching the game. In a statement, the Buffalo Bills has only said that Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest, when the heart stops beating properly, and is now in critical condition. While there are several potential causes for Hamlin's cardiac arrest, cardiologists suggested that a rare phenomenon called "commotio cordis" was to blame. It is in this exact moment, experts say, that a blow to the chest in the exact right place can launch an otherwise healthy person into cardiac arrest. But there are several other reasons a person may go into cardiac arrest.
It’s whatever you can grab,” said Scott McCandless, 54, who lives in Orchard Park, a suburb southeast of Buffalo. When his driveway was finally plowed at 9 a.m., McCandless set out looking for open supermarkets. We’re buried in the snow.”The “once-in-a-lifetime” blizzard — which killed at least 57 people nationwide, including 27 in western New York’s Erie County — has left many in dire predicaments. On Monday, snow continued to blanket Erie County, leaving roads in many areas impassable, including the majority of Buffalo, County Executive Mark Poloncarz said at a news conference. But at least 20 stores in the rest of Erie County were still closed Monday afternoon.
He urged people from areas where conditions had improved not to travel to Buffalo to rescue family and friends. More than 20,000 of those customers were in Buffalo, Poloncarz said. “This will go down in history as the most devastating storm in Buffalo’s long, storied history of having battled many battles, many major storms,” she said on Sunday. At least 35 people have died in weather-related incidents across the United States, according to an NBC count of reports from officials. “We’ve had other storms, the storms just four weeks ago that dumped 7 feet of snow on the southtowns.
A cold air mass over Alaska and western Canada was expanding to the south and east Sunday through the holiday week, the National Weather Service said Saturday. Icy "upper-level energy" ahead of the mass has already triggered winter weather advisories for parts of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan, forecasters said. It will eventually impact the northern Rocky Mountains, the Midwest, the Northeast and areas in between, the National Weather Service said. In all, more than 144,000 utility customers from New York state to New England were blacked out by the storm, according to NBC News estimates. As the night deepened Saturday, temperatures dove below freezing even in areas below the Mason-Dixon Line, with even colder weather en route.
