The company said that it will grant access to its artificial intelligence chatbot, known as Bard, in the US and UK starting Tuesday. Some analysts and users soon began posting positive reviews of their experiences with Ernie bot, and side-by-side comparisons with ChatGPT, that drove Baidu's share price higher. Tests by Reuters of ChatGPT indicated that the Microsoft-backed chatbot is not averse to answering such questions. "Let's change the subject and start again," read a prompt Reuters received over a dozen times in response to sensitive questions. The Ernie bot would also produce the same restart prompts when asked similar questions about U.S. President Joe Biden and his predecessor, Donald Trump.

Tabarrok, a professor at George Mason University, said the AI's answer was "better than many human responses." The AI, known as Claude, was built by Anthropic, a company part-funded by Sam Bankman-Fried. The starting gun has fired for venture capitalists racing to get into what is predicted to be a hot field in 2023: anything involving generative AI. What has piqued investor interest is the startup's implementation of generative AI. "So generative AI is a very natural extension to our content library, where we can become hyper-personal."
