CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — With two weeks to go before the South Carolina Republican primary, Nikki Haley is trying to challenge Donald Trump on her home turf while the former president tries to quash his last major rival’s narrow path to the nomination. Haley, 52, has called throughout her campaign for mental competency tests for politicians, a way to contrast with 77-year-old Trump and 81-year-old Biden. Harlie O’Connell, a longtime South Carolina resident who backs Haley, said she’s excited to vote in the presidential primary for a woman from her home state. While she plans to support in November whoever wins the GOP nomination, she said she would prefer someone younger. (AP) — The Las Vegas Raiders are hiring former Arizona Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury to be their offensive coordinator, a person informed of the decision told The Associated Press on Thursday night. (AP) — A New Hampshire man was charged Thursday with assaulting two 7-year-old children at an elementary school, two weeks after similar charges were filed against another worker at the school. The charges come after another behavioral worker was charged with assaulting a 7-year-old student at the same school in an unrelated incident. Both men worked for Applied ABC, a contracted provider for the Manchester School District. “The alleged assaults are grossly inexcusable and fall far below the high standards set by the Manchester School District for the safety and wellbeing of its students,” Ruais said in a statement. In a January memo to the school district, the company said it had relationships with more than 50 school districts nationwide.

But there's some unexpected good news: The rate of new gonorrhea cases fell for the first time in a decade. Total cases surpassed 207,000 in 2022, the highest count in the United States since 1950, according to data released Tuesday. About 59,000 of the 2022 cases involved the most infectious forms of syphilis. STD testing was disrupted during the COVID-19 pandemic, and officials believe that's the reason the chlamydia rate fell in 2020. “We are encouraged by the magnitude of the decline,” Mermin said, though the gonorrhea rate is still higher now than it was pre-pandemic.

Pierce, 45, took over as Las Vegas' interim coach on Halloween night after Josh McDaniels was fired. There is no evidence that the Irish Army were deployed on the streets of Dublin on Nov. 23 to reinforce police when a riot broke out after a stabbing earlier that day. An article (archived) published by BNN Network, a website that describes itself as a news organisation operated by “the trailblazers, the guardians and the truth-seekers", claimed without evidence that the Irish government deployed the Army during the unrest. While the Irish government declined to comment on the claim, Reuters found no evidence of the authority making any such announcements. Reuters correspondent Conor Humphries, who reported on the ground during the riot, said he did not see any army presence and only police presence. The Irish Defence Forces said they did not deploy troops, nor were they requested to do so, on Nov. 23.

Armoured vehicles pictured in a suburb of Dublin, Ireland, on Nov. 23 have been falsely linked to policing of a riot that broke out in the city centre on the same day, according to Ireland’s Defence Forces. Reuters correspondent Conor Humphries, who reported on the ground during the riot in central Dublin, said he did not see any army vehicles and only police presence. Reuters did not find any imagery of army vehicles inside the city centre where the riot took place. The Defence Forces did not deploy any assets, and none were requested, in support of Ireland’s police in relation to the unrest, the spokesperson said. “The Defence Forces conduct routine driving and training exercises both in Dublin City and beyond very regularly,” the spokesperson said.

CNN —Nashville police say an investigation began Monday morning into three photographs that surfaced online of alleged writings connected to the March shooting at a private Christian school that left three 9-year-olds and three adults dead. The pictures of writings allegedly from the 28-year-old shooter, who was a former student at The Covenant School, were released by a conservative political commentator Monday. One page of the writings appears to be a day’s checklist, while another is filled with angry ramblings. It’s unclear how many more pages of writings there may be, and what the contents of other pages are. The shooter’s writings have been part of a monthslong legal fight playing out in Nashville over the release of documents and records related to the March 27 shooting.

Authorities have not disclosed any of Hale's journals or writings that were collected after the March 27 shooting at the Covenant School in Nashville. Police then reversed course, saying that because of the lawsuits they would await the direction of the court on whether to release Hale’s writings. “I am deeply concerned with the safety, security, and well-being of the Covenant families and all Nashvillians who are grieving," O’Connell said. Attorneys representing families with the Covenant School have repeatedly said they have not seen Hale's writings. Authorities’ refusal to release Hale’s writings has fueled further speculation and conspiracy theories about what they might reveal about Hale’s motive or influences.
