Google’s new Pixel Fold looks like a regular, schmegular phone from the outside. You know, a rectangular slab of glass with a camera on the back. But you can open it like a book to reveal a bigger screen on the inside.
Forget ChatGPT. These Are the Best AI-Powered Apps.

Type pretty much anything into ChatGPT and it’ll spit out a confident, convincing response. And during long conversations, it can veer into wild tangents. So I started testing apps that use OpenAI’s GPT technology, but aren’t ChatGPT. Language app Duolingo and learning platform Khan Academy now offer conversational, personalized tutoring with this technology. And all Snapchat users just got a new friend on the social network called My AI.
Last week, I got an email from the fitness-tracking app Strava: “News about your subscription price.” It wasn’t good news. My annual fee is going from $59 to $80. I’m considering switching to the free version, which offers less performance analysis.

Greg Frasca has been locked out of his Apple account since October, and he’ll do just about anything to get back in. He has offered to fly from Florida to Apple’s California headquarters to prove his identity in person, or write a check for $10,000 to reclaim the account. It holds the only copies of eight years of photos of his young daughters.

Strong passwords are very important, but they’re not enough to protect you from cybercriminals. Passwords can be leaked or guessed. The key to online security is protecting your account with a strong secondary measure, typically a single-use code. This is referred to as “two-factor authentication,” or 2FA, as the nerds know it.
AirPods are a daily fixture in my life. I’ve recommended nearly every model of the wireless, portable and easy-pairing earbuds from their start. But Apple ’s market-leading earbuds, along with most other competing Bluetooth buds, have a big problem: tiny, irreplaceable batteries. I have the first-generation AirPods Pro and, after about three years of constant calls, music and podcast playing, I can use them for less than an hour before the “womp womp” low-battery sound plays.
After the LastPass Hack, Can You Trust Password Managers?
  + stars: | 2023-03-12 | by ( Nicole Nguyen | ) www.wsj.com   time to read: 1 min
A hacker successfully attacked LastPass, the leading password manager. Since the hack was made public, I’ve heard from lots of readers asking: If password managers can be hacked, can we trust them? You’ve heard from me before about the value of these services, which generate and store strong, unique passwords for your various accounts. Cyberattacks are on the rise, and security professionals say that using a password manager is one of the best ways to protect your digital life, along with adding two-factor authentication to your accounts.

BARCELONA—I’ve been using my face to open doors for me. On Monday, I walked into a conference center and, instead of flashing a badge with my name and photo, I positioned myself in front of a head-height camera the size of my fist. Seconds later, the screen read: “PLEASE ENTER.”
NEW YORK—In the early hours of Thanksgiving weekend, Reyhan Ayas was leaving a bar in Midtown Manhattan when a man she had just met snatched her iPhone 13 Pro Max. Within a few minutes, the 31-year-old, a senior economist at a workforce intelligence startup, could no longer get into her Apple account and all the stuff attached to it, including photos, contacts and notes. Over the next 24 hours, she said, about $10,000 vanished from her bank account.
How to Protect Your iPhone Data From Thieves

Our phones are a portal to everything that’s important to us—our most sensitive communications, our life savings, our photos. You’d think all that would be protected by something more complex than a four- or six-digit passcode. And yet, as we reported, thieves across the country are stealing iPhones along with their passcodes. They are getting it all: cash from bank apps, access to credit cards via Apple Pay and more.
You can own a gadget, but its fate might well be controlled by the company that makes it. In January, Arlo Technologies Inc. sent an email to customers of its internet-connected security cameras about a new “end-of-life policy.” Starting April 1, the company would no longer support models that included no-fee seven-day rolling storage of video clips—a well-advertised selling point.
