JWST spotted ten galaxies connected by an invisible cosmic filament. This is the earliest filament ever seen of the so-called "cosmic web," a mysterious network that connects the galaxies in our universe. Galaxies are connected by a cosmic webAn artist's impression of the cosmic web, showing how there are invisible areas of high density of dark and regular matter connecting the galaxies in the universe. Peering back into the early stages of the universe can give us a sense of how galaxies appeared within this mysterious network. The ASPIRE team hopes the picture will shed more light on the cosmic web, but it is also very interested in how early quasars were formed in the universe's infancy.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine that began in February last year has led to the biggest war in Europe in many generations. Within a month of the war’s onset, it had already become “a [foul]-up of historic proportions,” as one veteran Ukraine correspondent recently put it. Five weeks after the invasion, Putin’s spokesman claimed that Ukraine’s military was “largely destroyed.”But a war intended to undercut Ukraine’s leaders and NATO has instead strengthened both. Less noticed in the West is how Russia’s war has also alienated former Soviet nations such as Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. Just before the war, the Scottish American historian Niall Ferguson wrote that Ukraine would receive “no significant military support from the West” and speculated on the location of Putin’s victory parade.

The Chinese yuan is one of the top contenders challenging the USD's dominance as a reserve currency. However, Beijing may not be fully supportive of making the yuan the reserve currency of choice. Here's why even China isn't that keen on de-dollarizing the world economy and making the yuan the top reserve currency. So, the US will need to contend with ever larger amounts of deficit, in order to maintain its pre-eminent reserve currency position. Given the issues standing in Beijing's way, it's unlikely for the yuan to take over the greenback's position as the world's reserve currency of choice, said Green.

SummarySummary Companies AI boom brings fresh challenge for investorsAI-themed stocks highly valuedStick with big tech not AI stocks - investorsLONDON, May 26(Reuters) - Experienced tech investors are hunting for undervalued opportunities in an over-valued space. Investors are chasing exposure to generative AI, the technology run by ChatGPT that learns from analysing vast datasets to generate text, images and computer code. Businesses are trying to use generative AI to speed up video editing, recruitment and even legal work. GAM's Hawtin said he has also hunted out companies that provide the "picks and shovels," necessary for enabling new AI technology. Amazon's Bedrock service, for example, lets companies customise generative AI models rather than invest in developing them themselves.
Central bankers face a balance sheet reckoning

LONDON, May 26 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Central banks’ balance sheets have exploded in size since 2008. That’s not a problem, we’re told, since central banks are not bound by ordinary accounting rules. Ferguson and his colleagues examined fourteen central bank balance sheets over a period of 400 years. Central bank hawks on the other hand, are typically slow to expand their balance sheets during crises. Central banks with weak balance sheets are less credible bastions of a fiat currency.
CNN —Liam Payne is heading in a new direction. Earlier this week, the One Direction alum revealed to iFL TV that he’s “over 100 days” sober, saying, “I feel amazing, I feel really, really good.”“The support from the fans and everything’s been really good too. He added that he often drank before going on stage in an effort to manage the stress. We had an absolute blast, but there were certain parts of it where it just got a little bit toxic.”Looking ahead, Payne told iFL TV this week that in addition to being sober, he’s also working on a new album that he’s “really excited” about. Payne was a member of boyband One Direction between 2010 and 2015 alongside Styles, Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan.
CNN —As Blake Shelton’s time on “The Voice” comes to an end, he’ll be passing the torch to country music legend Reba McEntire. She previously appeared on the debut season of “The Voice” as an advisor to Shelton’s team. Shelton announced in October that Season 23 will be his last. It was also announced last week that Levine will return to “The Voice” stage to perform with Maroon 5 during the Season 23 two-part finale on May 23.

March 8 (Reuters) - Investors have rapidly revised up their expectations for euro zone interest rates, but with a peak now in sight, governments might find it much easier to allocate record bond sales thanks to a cocktail of attractive yields and available liquidity. Traders are confident the ECB will have a smooth start to unwinding its huge bond holdings, a process known as quantitative tightening (QT). Bond demand is set to accelerate as markets increasingly price in a peak for yields. “The euro area keeps having excess liquidity and is able to fund smoothly the government bond supply expected for this year,” said Erjon Satko, rates strategist at BofA. Some analysts say that no matter what national treasuries do, they will relieve the pressure of record bond supply.

Historian Niall Ferguson gives a speech at a gala dinner in Hong Kong. Ferguson argued at the 2023 World Economic Forum in Davos that the world is not experiencing major de-globalization. The idea that a major trend of de-globalization has begun is a "mirage" that is not borne out by data, according to the historian Niall Ferguson. This is "just history happening," he said on a panel at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. It would be surprising if that series of events hadn't produced structural changes in the way the world economy worked, Ferguson said.
