Asset manager BlackRock will launch an investment platform in Riyadh with the help of a $5 billion anchor investment from Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), the kingdom's sovereign wealth fund. BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager with $10 trillion in assets under management, will "launch investment strategies across asset classes for the Saudi market, including both public and private markets, managed by a Riyadh-based investment team," a joint press release from the firm and the PIF read. The new platform will be called BlackRock Riyadh Investment Management, or BRIM. BRIM aims to help bring foreign institutional investment into Saudi Arabia as well as develop the Saudi asset management industry, expand local capital markets and investor diversification, and support the development of the kingdom's asset management talent, the release said.

Holding his first campaign rallies since his criminal trial in Manhattan began, former President Donald J. Microsoft has signed a deal with Brookfield Asset Management to invest more than $10 billion to develop renewable energy capacity to power the growing demand for artificial intelligence and data centers, the companies announced on Wednesday. Brookfield will deliver 10.5 gigawatts of renewable energy for Microsoft between 2026 and 2030 in the U.S. and Europe under the agreement. The 10.5 gigawatts of renewable capacity is 3 times larger than the 3.5 gigawatts of electricity consumed by data centers in Northern Virginia, the largest data center market market in the world. A Brookfield spokesperson said the deal would lead to more than $10 billion of investment in renewable energy. The scope of the deal could increase to include additional energy capacity in the U.S. and Europe, as well as Asia, Latin America and India, the companies said.

An emergency slide that fell from a Delta Air Lines flight just minutes after takeoff on Friday was recovered on Sunday along a jetty in a Queens neighborhood about six miles from Kennedy International Airport, officials said. The New York City Department of Parks and Recreation said that Delta Air Lines had recovered “a large piece of debris” from the jetty near Beach 131st Street in Belle Harbor, southwest of the airport. Delta Air Lines said in a statement on Tuesday that it had retrieved the slide from the jetty. It was unclear whether the slide had landed on the jetty, a small rock pier built to break apart waves, or it had washed up there. The crew also noticed a “non-routine” sound from that wing, the airline said.

Student protesters at Columbia University who took over a building on campus Tuesday morning could face a variety of felony or misdemeanor charges, but probably will not be found guilty of criminal charges, said Martin R. Stolar, a Manhattan lawyer and former president of the New York City chapter of the National Lawyers Guild, with more than 50 years of experience defending protesters. Protesters broke into Hamilton Hall early Tuesday, hours after university administrators said they had begun suspending students who refused to leave a tent encampment on campus. Videos show a person breaking windows in a door to gain access to the building. Other photos taken inside and posted on social media show protesters using chairs and desks to barricade the doors. Columbia announced later Tuesday that the students occupying the building faced expulsion.
