London CNN —Two 12-year-old boys have been found guilty of killing a man in a machete attack in the United Kingdom last November, police said Monday. The boys, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, murdered 19-year-old Shawn Seesahai in a park in Wolverhampton, central England, West Midlands Police said in a statement. Seesahai, who was from Anguilla, had only lived in the UK for about six months, the statement said. A witness told the court that one defendant used the machete on Seesahai’s legs while the other punched and stamped on his head, PA said. The boys are expected to be sentenced in July, PA reported.

CNN —Premier League clubs have voted in favor of keeping video assistant referees (VAR), the league announced Thursday. VAR has been under huge scrutiny since it was introduced to the Premier League at the beginning of the 2019-20 season. Last season, VAR came under even greater scrutiny as officials made a number of contentious – often wrong – decisions while using VAR. CNN has reached out to the Premier League to confirm these reports. “However, after five seasons of VAR in the Premier League it is time for a constructive and critical debate on its future.

CNN —Louisiana lawmakers on Thursday gave final approval to a bill that would classify the abortion-inducing drugs misoprostol and mifepristone as Schedule IV controlled dangerous substances in the state, placing them in the same category as highly regulated drugs such as narcotics and depressants. The state Senate voted 29-7 to pass the bill, which the state House approved earlier this week. If signed into law, Louisiana would become the first state to classify the drugs as controlled dangerous substances. Senate Bill 276 would make it a crime to give abortion medication to a person without their consent. Pregnant women in possession of mifepristone and misoprostol for their own consumption would be exempt from such penalties under the legislation.

CNN —The president of Florida A&M University admits “misteps were made” in the handling of a purported $237 million stock gift to the school from a Texas businessman following concerns over the actual value of the donation. He also told the board of the school’s financial arm, the Florida A&M Foundation, that the school was pausing on the gift. The donation was put “on pause” after media reports and college board leaders raised concerns about the actual value of the stock gift — and the details surrounding the donor’s previous donations. South Carolina’s Coastal Carolina University had announced a $95 million donation from an anonymous donor, who then backed out months later. Dr. Shawnta Friday-Stroud, one of the signatories on an agreement between the university and Gerami accepting the gift, has since resigned as vice president of university advancement, according to Robinson.

The new regime for food imports is perhaps the starkest example of the painful border bureaucracy that UK and EU businesses must contend with in the wake of Brexit. An additional cost of that scale will “significantly increase food prices and reduce choice,” the federation’s CEO Phil Pluck wrote in a letter to environment and food minister Steve Barclay earlier this month. But here too Brexit hasn’t helped, ending as it did the free movement of EU workers on whom British farmers had relied for decades. In addition to Brexit-related challenges, UK farmers have been squeezed by soaring input costs, including those of fertilizer, energy and labor. “I’m not hugely in favor of subsidies, I’m in favor of fair food prices,” Maddocks said.

CNN —Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino said it was a “sad situation” seeing his players squabble over who was going to take a penalty during an otherwise impressive 6-0 win against Everton. The striker then calmly rolled the ball into the bottom-left corner to give Chelsea a 5-0 lead at Stamford Bridge. “And then if Palmer wants to give the ball to another he can, but not in this way. “Maybe it was a bit over the top, the argument and stuff, but everyone just wants to win [and] help, it’s nothing major.

CNN —Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill into law banning children under age 14 from having their own social media accounts on Monday, according to a news release from the governor’s office. In addition to restricting social media accounts for children, the legislation also places restrictions on pornographic websites. In February, a federal judge temporarily blocked Ohio’s law over concerns about its breadth and the likelihood that it could infringe on teens’ First Amendment rights to access information online. And last year, another federal judge temporarily blocked Arkansas’ law. DeSantis vetoed a prior version of the Florida law after saying he wanted to ensure that any legislation provides parents with enough of an opportunity to be involved in decisions about their kids’ social media use.

CNN —An independent Appeal Board has reduced Everton FC’s sanction for breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSRs) from 10 points to six. It comes after the Merseyside club successfully appealed a November decision by an independent commission to deduct points for breaching financial rules. The successful appeal moved Everton, which has failed to register a win in their last five matches, up to 15th in the Premier League table. That was a reference to the Premier League charging Everton with a second PSR breach along with Nottingham Forest in January. In response to the latest charge, the Liverpool-based club criticised “a clear deficiency in the Premier League’s rules.”

A mineralization process occurs when it is mixed with concrete, storing the CO2 permanently. London CNN —Allowing children to play impact sports, such as rugby or boxing, amounts to a form of child abuse, researchers from three British universities said in a new study. “The child’s brain doesn’t know or care how it was traumatized,” study lead author Eric Anderson, Professor of Sport at the University of Winchester, told CNN. And so we need to stop parents from hitting children in the head as punishment. The study argues that children cannot consent to taking part in highly dangerous activities such as impact sports, nor can adults give informed consent on their behalf. “If we were to invent sports from the get-go today, we wouldn’t be inventing sports that had children hitting their brains,” Anderson said.
