California-based Mojave has developed an air conditioning system that uses 50% less energy and 20% less refrigerant than existing systems, it claims. A heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system's footprint is mainly split between the energy used to control the temperature and what it takes to remove humidity, the research found. The "big breakthrough" was finding a way to cool the desiccant with cool air, Farese said. A 30-ton shipment of ammonium nitrate disappeared from a railcar, KQED reported. Officials are investigating the disappearance of a 30-ton shipment of ammonium nitrate, a chemical used to make both fertilizer and explosives, PBS affiliate KQED reported. A Federal Railroad Administration representative, however, told KQED that its own investigation suggested that one of the hopper car gates wasn't properly closed. Union Pacific, which transported the railcar, and the California Public Utilities Commission told KQED that they were also investigating. Dyno Nobel told KQED that it had "limited control" over the railcar while it was in transit and that it was being moved back to Wyoming for inspection.

A video shows the biggest plane in the world taking off and cruising into the sky — taking it one step closer to hypersonic flight. The Stratolaunch Roc successfully completed its first drop test — which tested the plane's ability to release an autonomous launch vehicle in the air — in Mojave Desert on Sunday, according to the company's press release. Stratolaunch's vehicle Talon-A could be seen attached to the plane. In another video posted by Stratolaunch on Twitter, the Roc was shown landing flawlessly on the runway.

That August, a sister ship, SD 1031, successfully entered Tropical Storm Henri, but only in its early stages. Hurricane research, modeling and forecasting requires many terabytes of data for every square mile the storm passes through, including vitally important sea-level data from inside a storm. The next day, the depression was upgraded to a tropical storm and officially given the name Sam. “Euphoria” star Zendaya surprised festival-goers on Saturday night during Labrinth’s Coachella Weekend 2 set to sing two songs they collaborated on from the hit HBO show. “I just wanted to say thank you again for such a magical beautiful night,” she said on her Instagram story, going on to thank Labrinth for the “last minute” invitation. In her signature wig and bow, Sia joined him onstage to perform “Thunderclouds,” a track off of the 2019 album “Audio,” which Sia, Labrinth and Diplo collaborated on after forming their super-group called LSD. “Dance Moms” star Maddie Ziegler also joined them onstage during the song to perform a dance number. Sia and Ziegler last performed on the Coachella stage together in 2016, and Ziegler often appears in Sia’s music videos and during the singer-songwriter’s on-stage performances.
