KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 5 (Reuters) - Malaysia's newly appointed Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said on Monday his administration will review a plan for a state-owned 5G network introduced by a previous government, as it was not formulated transparently. The single-ownership of the 5G spectrum raised concerns from the country's major carriers over pricing, transparency and monopoly. Anwar said the 5G plans would be evaluated to ensure they strictly followed procedures, alleging that there had been "no proper tender process", without specifying details. Muhyiddin's government previously defended the 5G plan, saying it will reduce costs, improve efficiency and accelerate infrastructure development. Anwar was appointed premier by the king last month, after the election resulted in an unprecedented hung parliament.
[1/2] Christel Heydemann, CEO of Orange, attends the MEDEF union summer forum "La Rencontre des Entrepreneurs de France, LaREF" at the Paris Longchamp Racecourse in Paris, France, August 30, 2022. 1 telecoms operator Orange (ORAN.PA) said on Wednesday, as the prospect of energy rationing looms amid the war in Ukraine. Executives said at the time there were not enough back-up systems in many European countries to handle widespread power cuts. "The operators put pressure so that we don't cut their antennas, there's a kind of arm wrestling," the source told Reuters. Only a few thousands mobile antennas would be completely shielded from potential power cuts at this stage, a telecoms industry source said, thus covering a fraction of the population and of the territory.
When the COVID-19 pandemic forced Argentinian energy company Ecogas to suspend in-person services for its 1.4 million natural gas customers spread across a distribution network of almost 30,000 kilometers, the company had to act fast to prepare for a surge in demand for its digital channels. Before the pandemic, in-person transactions were the primary touchpoints for energy customers in Argentina. However, Ecogas knew that digital channels could transform the customer experience, so they began a transformation to deliver seamless online and mobile service channels that allow customers to manage their accounts and pay bills. With in-person services suddenly inaccessible, digital channels became the primary customer touchpoint almost overnight. In fact, around 80% of our customers find the online and mobile channels so convenient that they prefer them to the in-branch experience."

Prices for most goods and services rose sharply soon after Russia sent thousands of troops into Ukraine in February, sparking hefty Western sanctions. The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) said MTS would have to lower prices to economically justified levels and pay a fine, the size of which would be determined after an investigation. "The adjustment of tariffs took into account the growth in costs of servicing telecoms infrastructure, which exceeds the growth of telecoms service revenues," MTS said in a statement. "In August, September and October 2022, MTS again raised the cost for these tariff plans," the FAS said. The FAS said MTS had not provided enough evidence of its costs.
