Aug 3, 2023; Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA; Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher J.C. Mejia (36) delivers a pitch against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the eighth inning at American Family Field. The latest suspension of Mejia, who last May was given an 80-game ban after testing positive for Stanozolol, is effective immediately, MLB said in a statement. Mejia, a 27-year-old right-hander acquired from Cleveland in November 2021, appeared in nine games for the Brewers this year before being shut down in August due to shoulder inflammation. In nine appearances out of the Brewers bullpen this season Mejia allowed 15 hits and seven earned runs in 11-1/3 innings of action. The Brewers, who lead the National League Central division, placed Mejia on the 15-day injured list in August and last week transferred him to the 60-day IL.

He didn’t care that it was a no-hitter. He just wanted the Yankees to win. After two innings, I texted a Brewers fan to say I was worried the Yankees would be no-hit. He replied that Milwaukee didn’t have the offense for it to matter. After 10 innings we both looked prophetic, as it was a 0-0 tie and the Yankees had not managed a single hit off Burnes or the relievers Devin Williams and Abner Uribe.

The Braves (92-48) opened a three-game series against the Pirates with an 8-2 win Friday, flexing their considerable muscle on offense while benefiting from strong pitching. After that, the Braves reeled off seven straight series wins before dropping two of three games to the Cardinals. / Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports/File PhotoNEW YORK, Aug 15 (Reuters) - A federal appeals court on Tuesday refused to revive longtime umpire Angel Hernandez's lawsuit accusing Major League Baseball of racial discrimination. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan rejected the Cuban-born umpire's arguments that the league's promotion practices, including its failure to promote him to crew chief, reflected unfair treatment of minorities. Hernandez, an MLB umpire since 1993, claimed he had been discriminated against because he was passed over for crew chief five times between 2011 and 2018, and last umpired a World Series in 2005.
