Martin Starger, who as a senior executive at ABC in the 1970s helped bring “Happy Days,” “Roots,” “Rich Man, Poor Man” and other shows to the small screen — and the network nearly to the brink of No. 1 in prime time — before turning to producing movies, most notably Robert Altman’s “Nashville,” died on May 31 at his home in Los Angeles. His death was confirmed by his niece, Ilene Starger, a casting director. Mr. Starger joined ABC in the mid-1960s and rose to positions of increasing importance, culminating in his promotion to president of ABC Entertainment in 1972. He was culturally ahead of his audience but was pragmatic in his programming choices, but ever striving for better.”

CNN —The family of one of the hostages rescued in an Israeli operation over the weekend has said that he experienced psychological abuse over the hands of his Hamas captors during the eight months that he was held in Gaza. Outstanding Chef winner Michael Rafidi dedicated his award to Palestinian people all over the world in his acceptance speech. The 2024 winners bring heritage from all over the globe — the Philippines, Mexico, Japan, Peru, Vietnam, Senegal — to tables across the United States. Instead of worrying about paying for summer activities, our kids will spend leisurely summer days at the camp. Our kids sleep so much better at campOne of the most unexpected bonuses of summer camp life is our sleep habits. I'll gladly jump into the lake on a hot summer day with my girls or play a game of beach volleyball. When I go to bed at night, my pillow smells like a campfire, sunscreen, and sweat — all signs of a perfect day at summer camp.
