Elon Musk likes to discuss the benefits of MDMA and mushrooms with friends, The New York Times reported. The billionaire likes to share a chart that shows MDMA and psychedelic mushrooms are healthier than alcohol use, one person who Musk shared the chart with on vacation told the publication. For the past 20 years, Musk has attended nearly every Burning Man festival — often accompanied by his younger brother, Kimbal Musk, the Times reported. Researchers have not compared health benefits from alcohol and psychedelic mushrooms head-to-head. Apple founder Steve Jobs previously touted the practice of microdosing on psychedelic drugs, such as LSD or psilocybin mushrooms in order to promote creativity.
In the early days of the industry, nonprofits and scrappy startups made up the psychedelics space. Research on compounds like psilocybin, the active compound found in magic mushrooms, and MDMA is resurfacing after years of neglect amid the war on drugs. Soon, VC firms focused on psychedelics companies began to emerge. Some psychedelics VCs, however, are still wary about entering the newest psychedelics space: Oregon's soon-to-be-legal magic mushroom market. Insider published a list of the psychedelics startups that raised the most cash in 2020.
CNN —Shrooms, Alice, tweezes, mushies, hongos, pizza toppings, magic mushrooms — everyday lingo for psychedelic mushrooms seems to grow with each generation. Yet leading mycologist Paul Stamets believes it’s time for fans of psilocybin mushrooms to leave such childish slang behind. “The SSRI did not increase brain connectivity, and it actually did not improve well-being as much as psilocybin,” Nutt said. A typical microdose is 0.1 to 0.3 grams of dried psilocybin mushrooms, as compared with the 25-milligram pill of psilocybin that creates the full-blown psychedelic experience. “Our hope is that we can use this information to ultimately make drugs that mimic the benefits of psychedelic drugs without the psychedelic experience,” Roth said.

He's trying to push Vancouver to manage or legalize it, as cannabis sellers did in 2015. Larsen told the Vancouver Sun that Canada would not have legalized cannabis without store owners like himself, who sold cannabis before it was legal. Now, he's betting that selling the substance will push the government to go ahead and make it legal. Canada legalized cannabis in October 2018, but the illegal or semi-illegal market in Vancouver persisted, especially because of licensing issues. As of November, there were multiple stores openly selling mushrooms in the city, in one case as a way of making up lost pandemic revenue, according to the Daily Hive Vancouver.
Wake-N-Bakery is one of the first cafés in Chicago to use Delta-8, a semilegal weed compound. In case you're unfamiliar with Delta-8, it's the quasi-legal, hemp-derived cannabinoid that's less potent than regular THC but can still get you high. She also recommended using a benchmark of roughly eight milligrams of Delta-8, equaling five milligrams of regular THC, and that dosing should be based on how much and how well you tolerate regular THC, so that's what I stuck with. Delta-8 can be just as potent as regular THC, even though you need to take it in slightly larger quantities to get the same effect. That means it's just as easy to overindulge on Delta-8 edibles as it is on edibles containing regular THC.
Benjamin Ramm first took psilocybin in a controlled setting in the Netherlands in 2019. So I turned to a medicine that I knew could help reset my mind: psilocybin, or "magic" mushrooms. In April 2019, I'd had my first immersive psychedelic experience — a significant dose of psilocybin truffles, on a retreat in the Netherlands organized by the UK Psychedelic Society. For some time, I had wanted to try microdosing and felt more confident about experimenting with psilocybin after the retreat. When taking a significant dose for the first time, I think it is essential to be in the company of supportive friends or experienced facilitators who offer guidance.
