"The cultural narrative that cutting back on screen time, just as a blanket rule, is always better for kids is more destructive than helpful," Christensen, a psychologist and researcher at Menlo Park, California-based nonprofit SRI International, tells CNBC Make It. But watching high-quality, educational content is good for your kids' development — teaching them important skills and emotional intelligence that can eventually help them develop into successful adults. What is 'good' screen time? Educational content tops Christensen's list of high-quality content, she says: "We're looking for videos that are intended to teach." Cable companies are trying to catch up with the times, though, and now want you to replace your clunky set-top cable boxes with sleek, Apple TV-like streaming devices – gadgets that could save customers money. Xumo is one step in cable companies’ broader strategy to combine live TV with streaming – essentially rebundling streaming services like the old cable bundle. Moving from a cable box to Xumo will save cable customers money. It’s a shift for cable companies that long relied on trying to get households to add as many set-top cable boxes in their homes as possible. It could be a while before the ancient cable box completely disappears, however.

The downsizing of Netflix's film ambitions is on pace with a broader contraction at the streamer, which announced 88 fewer original films last year than in 2022. But for some on Wall Street, the right number of Netflix original films just might be zero. Netflix announced a whopping 232 original films in 2021, according to Ampere Analysis. Netflix's original films started declining in 2022 from the 2021 peak of 232.

In a statement to CNBC, Harvard Kennedy School Director of Public Affairs James Smith disputed Donovan's account of her departure. Russia's economy could end up looking a lot like it did in the Cold War, a researcher writes. Russia's population fell by around 3 million from 2017 to 2022. The drop in population has bred a number of problems for Russia's economy as it shifts to a wartime footing, including a record shortage of workers. All that points to great difficulty faced by Russia's economy, he added. Other economists have sounded similar warnings for Russia's economy, though the nation itself has insisted on its resilience over the past year-and-a-half.

Most hybrid workers (55%) say paying employees more for their in-office work would provide “a lot” of encouragement for them to work in-person more often. Additional pay topped the list across respondents whether they were working in-person, remotely (44%) or in hybrid (50%) roles. Regardless, many U.S. employees have returned to in-person work, or had never left. Most paid employees report that they work in person per NORC's survey, and three-quarters of those in-person employees say they are required by their employer to do so. The number of people working remotely has fallen significantly since the peak of COVID-19 — but is still far higher than pre-pandemic levels.

To the Arab world, it pledges to repeat its Oct. 7 attacks and sacrifice as many Palestinians as it takes to destroy Israel. It has also restricted two of Hamas' official channels on Android and iOS devices. Restrictions, not bans — but rare for Telegram nonethelessTelegram, which is known for its message encryption and lax moderation, restricted two official Hamas channels on Android devices earlier this month. The impact of banning Telegram channels remains to be seenAs for Hamas, Telegram has been under pressure for weeks to cut the militant group from its services. Before the restrictions, Hamas' official Telegram channels saw a three-fold jump in followers after the attacks, the Digital Forensic Research Lab reported. Notably, Hamas channels are not the only ones spreading content related to the October 7 attacks, and some of those channels are still available on the platform.

Debate or discussions of climate change topics, including around public policy or research, is allowed, but when content crosses the line to climate change denial, we stop showing ads on those videos. Netflix, Disney, and other video streaming providers have raised prices a lot in the past year. The analysis predicts which streaming subscription services are likely to raise prices again soon. The Bernstein sales specialist also fired up an interesting analysis, using Nielsen data and other industry stats, that shows which streaming services are mostly likely to raise prices again. In other words, you're probably going to pay more for Netflix, Hulu, and Peacock before too long. However, over a longer period, it usually takes a consistent supply of solid hits to drive repeat viewing habits that support higher prices, Schilsky explained.
