That goes for MBAs as much as MFAs, and it’s a lesson Lyft executives learned the hard way on Tuesday, when an errant zero sent its stock (briefly) to the stratosphere. The Lyft typo came in an earnings report that stated, incorrectly, that the company’s estimated gross margin would expand by 500 basis points, which would amount to a stunning five-percentage-point bump. The stock shot up more than 60% before Lyft’s CFO corrected the error on a call with analysts, bringing the stock back to Earth. With the error in the rear view, Lyft shares were up up 30% Wednesday, bolstered by stronger-than-expected earnings and a rosy outlook for future cash flows. “Look, it was a bad error, and that’s on me,” Lyft CEO David Risher told CNBC on Wednesday.

MILAN (AP) — Prada brought nature indoors as a backdrop for its 2024-25 fall and winter menswear collection meant to get humans outside. The new Prada collection, unveiled on the third day of Milan Fashion Week menswear previews Sunday, marked “the return of the seasons,’’ as a point of renewal of the spirit, co-creative director Miuccia Prada said backstage. Without falling into strict categories of office wear and outdoor wear, Prada said that the collection “was meant for going outside,” and spending time there, not just as a point of transit. Raf Simons, Prada’s co-creative director, said the collection referenced water in its many forms: the sea, rain, a stream, ice. Always political, the Prada collection references climate change, but without being explicit.

But the gift comes with mandatory withdrawals for heirs and following the rules can be difficult, experts say. According to the Secure Act of 2019, certain heirs now have less time to deplete inherited accounts due to a change in so-called "required minimum distributions." But there's now a 10-year withdrawal rule for certain heirs, meaning everything must be withdrawn by the 10th year after the original account owner's death. The rule applies to accounts inherited by so-called "non-eligible designated beneficiaries" on Jan. 1, 2020, or later. Ed Slott IRA expertNon-eligible designated beneficiaries are heirs who aren't a spouse, minor child, disabled, chronically ill or certain trusts.

NASA’s Goddard Institute of Space Sciences is now using NYUAD’s map in its Mars 24 software, which maintains precise timings on Mars. Edgar Sison gave up his ability to work on commercial ships nearly two years after being accused of rape. Federal prosecutors had recently notified Hicks that that they wouldn’t be filing criminal charges against Sison, according to her attorney Ryan Melogy. By surrendering his ability to work on commercial ships, Sison avoided a hearing on the administrative assault charges against him. It also revealed the problems and limitations that the US Coast Guard has in investigating such offenses, as a CNN investigation found earlier this year. It ultimately took the agency nearly two years to successfully keep Sison from working on commercial ships.

It was one of a twin set of spacecraft designed to take images of Mars, and the first one failed. Dan Goods/NASA/JPL-CaltechThe transmission was incredibly slow by today’s standards, given that the Perseverance rover regularly sends back batches of high-resolution images from Mars. Together, they revealed craters on the Martian surface and clouds floating above in the atmosphere, both of which surprised scientists. The highest-resolution Mariner 4 image (right) revealed the cratered Martian surface from 7,830 miles (12,601 kilometers) above. A Canadian lake best charts humanity’s impact on Earth

Fossils embedded in rock reveal intriguing details about animals, plants and other life-forms that once called Earth home. ConsequencesCrawford Lake in Ontario is the geological site that best reflects a new epoch recognizing the impact of human activity on Earth, said geologists of the Anthropocene Working Group. The Anthropocene Working Group determined in 2016 that the epoch began around 1950 — the start of the era of nuclear testing. The international research group says that Crawford Lake in Ontario best charts humanity’s impact on Earth. While pretax 401(k) contributions reduce your adjusted gross income, you'll owe levies on growth upon withdrawal. By comparison, Roth 401(k) deposits won't provide an upfront tax break, but the money can grow tax-free.
