Washington CNN —Democratic Sen. Laphonza Butler made history Tuesday when she was sworn in by Vice President Kamala Harris as the first out Black lesbian to enter Congress and the only Black woman presently serving in the Senate. Gavin Newsom to fill the seat left vacant by the death of Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein, becomes only the third Black woman to serve as a US senator. Harris, formerly the sole Black woman in the Senate, vacated her seat in 2021 after her election as vice president. Newsom was under intense pressure within California to choose a Black woman to succeed her, but instead appointed Alex Padilla, then California’s secretary of state, who became the first Latino senator from the state. Newsom later pledged to appoint a Black woman to Feinstein’s seat should the senator resign before her term’s end.

CNN —Team Europe retained the Solheim Cup on Sunday, staging a remarkable late fightback to tie 14-14 with Team USA at Finca Cortesin Golf Club in Andalucia, Spain. For European captain Suzann Pettersen, who made nine playing appearances at the Solheim Cup, it pens another happy chapter in the her glittering story at the tournament. It came down to Carlota [Ciganda], in Spain, in her own hands,” Pettersen told Sky Sports. “I have many feelings right, I’m so happy just to do this for Suzann, for Spain,” Ciganda said. Stark’s putt on the 17th put Europe ahead, then Grant clinched the win by sinking hers on the 18th. CNN —Emily Pedersen made a stunning hole-in-one for Team Europe on a thrilling opening day of the Solheim Cup, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Team USA taking a 5-3 lead going into day two. Emily Pedersen produced the shot of the day. Angel Martinez/Getty ImagesThere was some late drama on the 18th as Leona Maguire produced a delightful chip-in to snatch a point for Team Europe alongside Georgia Hall, beating the American pairing of Lexi Thompson and Lilia Vu. NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — For nearly a week, families whose lives were upended by a Nashville elementary school shooting took turns sharing dark details to Tennessee lawmakers. Meanwhile, families have waded into the legislative process, uncovering and reliving personally painful details before lawmakers — privately, publicly or both — with mixed results. The inaction this year in Tennessee was markedly different than how Florida reacted five years ago to a massive school shooting. Parents offered similar pleas in Tennessee last month during a brief special legislative session called by Republican Gov. For many parents, it signaled they would likely retell and relive these dark moments for many more months, as they pledged to seek change next legislative session and in the 2024 statehouse elections.

JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska (AP) — Two bears on an Alaska military base raided a Krispy Kreme doughnut van that was stopped outside a convenience store during its delivery route. The bears chomped on doughnut holes and other pastries, ignoring the banging on the side of the van that was aimed at shooing them away, Deano said. '”When the bears couldn't be roused, base security was called and sounded sirens meant to scare away the bears, she said. The bears eventually came out and wandered in front of the convenience store and gas station a bit before heading into the woods. Seven years ago, Luna was making $35,000 a year as a teacher, which was barely enough to live, she told Insider. And since well-endowed women are typically cast as MILFs in porn, Luna said, it made sense for her to go in that direction. For custom video requests, which are typically selfie-style videos where Luna wears certain outfits or acts out a certain fantasy, she charges $100 per minute. According to Luna, she films most of her content on her iPhone, then edits it on the software Adobe Premiere Pro. And, it's just hotter to watch multiple people having sex, making it higher value than solo content, Luna said.

Consensual sex workers and advocates say the law, an addition to Section 230, makes them less safe. I was doing online work in the past and this feels more dangerous' or 'I've experienced assault' since it happened," Cleary told Insider. After FOSTA was passed, sex workers, advocates, and some anti-trafficking groups predicted this outcome, warning lawmakers that the overbroad law would lead to a chilling effect and reduced resources for consensual sex workers and trafficking victims. As the summer hiring market heats up, small and seasonal businesses may find they're missing a key demographic to fill roles – teen workers. That could mean fewer available workers for businesses like Grotto Pizza that rely heavily on teens, according to hiring manager Glenn Byrum. Byrum described what he saw as a common mentality among young workers, born out of a wealth of job opportunities during the summer. Grotto often starts teen workers above minimum wage, Byrum said, and provides incentives for some to move between locations as seasonal demand fluctuates. Lexi Mathis, 16, was given a pay raise to work at a Grotto beach location for the summer months.

The finale of Netflix’s latest dating show hit, “The Ultimatum: Queer Love,” arrived on Wednesday after weeks of partner swapping that amounted to a milestone in romantic reality television: The first of the genre’s marriage contests that focused exclusively on queer couples. Like its predecessor, “The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On,” from last year, “The Ultimatum: Queer Love,” which premiered in May, follows couples who don’t agree about their future together (one wants to get engaged; the other is not ready). So they agree to split up and live with new partners for a few weeks in front of the cameras. After meeting, dating and committing to a “trial wife,” the original couples reunite to live together as married, also for a few weeks. Then, after eight episodes worth of soul-searching, they must decide whether to get engaged, end the relationship or leave with their “trial wife” — the “ultimatum” of the title.

For Sonia Cortes, the battle for Sunset Park began with soup. Two years ago, after the pandemic wiped out her job as a seamstress, Ms. Cortes started selling pozole, a brothy Mexican soup, in the park, a 25-acre swath of green in southwestern Brooklyn. By last fall, the Sunday market had grown to more than 80 vendors, mostly immigrant women selling Mexican street food and wares to large weekend crowds. They called it Plaza Tonatiuh, after an Aztec sun god. On Easter Sunday, dozens of officers clashed violently with vendors and organizers, who locked arms in resistance.

A souring economic picture is driving fewer people to quit, but they may end up quiet quitting instead. (Payscale did not ask about quitting rates prior to Covid.) Most employers think pay is the biggest reason causing people to quit, especially in an inflationary environment, followed by limited opportunities to advance, according to the Payscale report. A majority, 56%, say they're planning raises of at least 3% this year, up from 53% last year and 36% in 2021, according to Payscale. And those planned raises will do little to stand up against inflation, which sits at 6.4% as of January.
