On the audio – exclusively obtained by CNN – Trump discusses holding a secret document. In the tape, Trump seems to indicate he was holding up information that may be among the government’s most closely guarded secrets. As he often did in office, Trump appears to have been using US national security as a tool for his own personal or political gain. In response to the tape, Trump – as he often does – sought to redefine an apparent example of aberrant behavior as perfectly acceptable.

The United States will deploy nuclear-armed submarines to South Korea for the first time in decades — part of a new agreement that will signal Washington's commitment to defend Seoul against rising nuclear threats from North Korea, U.S. officials said. The plan to dock the ballistic missile submarines in South Korea, which hasn't happened since the 1980's, headlines an effort to make U.S. deterrence against Kim Jong Un's regime "more visible," according to senior administration officials. President Joe Biden and his counterpart, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, will unveil the new agreement in Washington on Wednesday, the officials said. In return, an official added, South Korea would reaffirm its commitment to the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, known as the NPT, which bars countries from seeking nuclear weapons. Yoon's visit follows the largest U.S.-South Korea joint military exercises in years, aimed largely at countering the North Korean nuclear threat.

The recent leak of classified Defense Department documents, which show that the United States has been gathering intelligence on its ally South Korea, will not affect the relationship between the two countries, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol told NBC News in an exclusive interview. The interview came as he and President Joe Biden meet this week to discuss North Korea, China and other pressing challenges. U.S. and South Korean officials have said that much of the information in the documents is inaccurate and may have been altered, without providing further specifics. The South Korean officials also saw the need for the government to formulate a clear position on the matter in case the White House pressed the issue. "President Yoon in particular, unlike previous [South Korean] presidents, really has emphasized freedom and democracy as a core theme of his foreign policy," Cha told a news briefing last week.

Fox News also denies wrongdoing in the underlying Dominion case, and says it didn’t defame anyone. Last week, Grossberg filed explosive lawsuits in New York and Delaware accusing Fox News lawyers of pressuring her into providing misleading testimony in the Dominion case – testimony that would protect the network and its top talent. Since filing the lawsuit, she submitted new sworn testimony in the Dominion defamation case that undermines some of Fox’s defenses. After filing the lawsuit, Grossberg was fired from Fox News. The right-wing network said in a statement that she violated corporate rules improperly exposed legally privileged information in her lawsuit.

CNN —A last-ditch effort to salvage a Fox interview with President Joe Biden before the Super Bowl has fallen through. Biden is not expected to participate in the annual presidential Super Bowl interview with Fox, the network airing the game this year. The Biden administration attempted a workaround that avoided a sit-down with Fox News, with which the White House has a contentious relationship. Fox has canceled the interview, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a tweet Friday. Despite some discussion early on about an interview, the White House never committed to granting a sit-down to Fox News.

Rapper Meek Mill says he was pardoned by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf for 2008 drugs and firearms charges that he served prison time for in 2017, according to a post on his Instagram account. One other charge is mentioned in the document as "possession of" with the rest redacted from the picture posted by the rapper. The office of Governor Tom Wolf did not immediately respond to requests for comment, but a news release published Thursday announced that Wolf issued 369 pardons this week. This brings the total pardons Wolf has issued during his time as governor to 2,540, according to the news release. His high-profile case has become a focal point for critics, including the rapper himself, calling for criminal justice reform.
