AdvertisementNo matter who you believe on the "bloodbath" comments, Trump's speech was full of other dark premonitions and statements — undisputed by his campaign — that foreshadow a grim campaign ahead as the country girds for a 7-month-long rematch between Trump and President Joe Biden. Here's a transcript of Trump's "bloodbath" comments at the Dayton, OH rally yesterday. It technically wasn't even a Trump rally. Beginning his speech, Trump called the defendants "unbelievable patriots." "I don't think you're going to have another election in this country if we don't win this election," Trump told his supporters.

NEW YORK (AP) — The physical pain of nearly dying when shrapnel from a roadside bomb in Iraq tore through his head 17 years ago was hard enough for ABC newsman Bob Woodruff. A couple of inches either way, Woodruff was told, and he would have been killed instantly. He has constant contact with veterans through the Bob Woodruff Foundation, which raises money for military families. That allowed for some gallows humor when Woodruff and Magnus Macedo, the sound technician on Woodruff’s 2006 trip, tried to cross it. Donors often give for specific purposes — facilities, faculty research, technology on campus, athletics, scholarships and financial aid for low-income students. Lawrence Summers, the former president of Harvard and US Treasury Secretary, has criticized the “morally unconscionable” student statement and Harvard leaders’ response. The agreement currently applies to some 3,900 children separated from their parents during Trump's presidency from 2017-2021, according to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), which represents separated families in a lawsuit first filed in 2018. An estimated 500-1,000 children remain separated and the number covered by the settlement will likely expand, the ACLU said. Trump, the frontrunner to become the Republican nominee for president in 2024, has criticized Biden's handling of border security and pledged to implement hardline immigration policies if reelected. As part of the settlement, separated families will have access to temporary housing support for one year, according to court documents. The Biden administration in 2021 broke off class-wide settlement talks that would have provided monetary compensation to separated families.

The Trump administration separated thousands of children from their parents or guardians they were traveling with as it moved to criminally prosecute people for illegally crossing the southwestern border. It also crucially bars an attempt by a future administration to reenact another family separation policy,” said Gelernt. About 74% of those have been reunited with their families: 2,176 before a Biden administration task force was created and 689 afterward. Some of these benefits were already available to families under a Biden-administration created task force designed to reunite separated families. The settlement also bars future separations, which the task force did not, and Gelernt said a future administration could have disbanded the task force whereas the settlement is binding.
