The plea deal would credit that time served, allowing Assange to immediately return to Australia, his native country. The plea deal must still be approved by a federal judge, but as of Monday morning, Assange had been released from a UK prison, according to WikiLeaks. A federal judge in the Northern Mariana Islands set a plea hearing and sentencing for Wednesday morning, according to the US District Court there. President Joe Biden in recent months has alluded to a possible deal pushed by Australian government officials to return Assange to Australia. FBI and Justice Department officials have opposed any deal that didn’t include a felony guilty plea by Assange, people briefed on the matter told CNN.

London CNN —Catherine, Princess of Wales is to take part the Trooping the Colour celebration on Saturday - the King’s official birthday parade - in what will be her first public appearance since revealing her cancer diagnoses. The Princess of Wales - also known as Kate - will watch the rest of the parade with her family nearby, and is expected to join fellow royals on the balcony. The event - one of the highlights of the royal calendar - is a tradition marking the official birthday of the British sovereign for more than 260 years. London CNN —Catherine, Princess of Wales, will not be returning to royal duties with an appearance at the Colonel’s Review, a military parade in London in early June, as she continues her treatment for cancer. It is not yet clear if Kate will also miss that annual military spectacle – a highlight of the royal calendar full of pomp and pageantry – at Horse Guards Parade in the British capital. Following the announcement, a royal source told CNN that she would not be returning to frontline royal duties until she has been cleared to do so by her medical team. There had also been speculation over whether King Charles would participate in next month’s Trooping the Colour as he continues his own cancer treatment. Charles announced his own cancer battle in February but recently resumed public-facing royal engagements as he continues his treatment.

At least seven people are critically injured after a Singapore Airlines flight traveling from London to Singapore experienced severe turbulence and was forced to make an emergency landing in Thailand, according to Kittipong Kittikachorn, the general manager of Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi International Airport. Earlier, the airport official confirmed a 73-year-old British man had died. Kittikachorn also told CNN on Tuesday that he was informed about the emergency landing in Bangkok just ten minutes before it touched down. Previously, the airport official said the majority of injuries sustained on board were cuts and bruises. “It took us one and a half hours to evacuate all passengers,” Kittikachorn stated.

☆ King Charles returns to public duties in visit to cancer treatment center

The 75-year-old monarch revealed he was battling cancer in early February and is continuing his treatment as he restarts his public-facing engagements. The first fresh entry in his diary was a visit to a cancer treatment center in London, where he was expected to meet patients and staff. The King, who has been patron of Macmillan Cancer Support for nearly three decades, was accompanied by his wife, the Queen. The King and Queen meet staff as they arrive at the cancer treatment center. However, it has been confirmed that he will welcome Japan’s Emperor and Empress for a state visit later that month.

The California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt campus will be closed and move to a remote format until the end of the semester due to the continued occupation of at least two campus buildings, according to a statement on Friday. “Campus is now closed through May 10, and work and academic instruction will be remote as individuals continue to occupy Siemens Hall and Nelson Hall East,” the statement said, adding that protesters have attempted “several times to break into multiple locked buildings with the intention of either locking themselves in, vandalizing, or stealing equipment.”The decision is not entirely unexpected as school officials previously said in an update that the campus would remain closed over the weekend and that they were considering keeping it closed beyond that. CNN —A Russian oil refinery in the southern Krasnodar region was impacted by a suspected Ukrainian drone attack on Saturday, according to local officials. Meanwhile in Ukraine, four thermal energy plants were “severely damaged” after Russian attacks overnight, according to a statement from DTEK, Ukraine’s largest private energy company. The United Arab Emirates has now partnered with an aid agency to send crucial assistance to Gaza via the Israeli port of Ashdod. A UAE official told CNN Saturday that the vessel laden with critical food aid left on Saturday through a relationship with American Near East Refugee Aid (ANERA). Itayam told CNN the 400 tons of aid would undergo Israeli security clearance upon arrival. The plan is for most of the food aid to be delivered to northern Gaza, but Itayam said that depending on the security situation, ANERA might consider sending a shipment to the south as well.
