CNN —Thai golfer Natthakritta Vongtaveelap made it through just five holes of her US Women’s Open debut on Thursday before she was disqualified due to her caddie’s use of a rangefinder. The 20-year-old LPGA Tour rookie was even-par to start her tournament at California’s famous Pebble Beach course before she was disqualified after caddie Jinsup Kim used the distance-measuring device on two occasions. On July 1, American Zach Williams navigated just two holes of his Korn Ferry Tour debut at the Memorial Health Championship before he was disqualified for using a rangefinder. A five-time champion on the Thai LPGA Tour, Vongtaveelap announced her arrival on the LPGA Tour in stunning fashion with a runner-up finish at the Honda LPGA Classic in February, finishing just one stroke behind American Lilia Vu. This is the first time my brother ever actually watched me play, so it’s really, really special.

CNN —Jailed opposition leader Alexey Navalny appeared before a Russian court Monday to defend himself against fresh charges of extremism, in a trial that could extend his prison term by decades. In comments posted to his Twitter account, Navalny said the “absurd” charges could lead to him serving a further 30 years behind bars. Navalny’s team challenged judge Andrey Suvorov, and asked him to recuse himself, according to the team’s Telegram posts. Also present at the hearing is Daniel Kholodny, the former technical director of the Navalny Live YouTube channel, accused in the same extremism case. Putin himself said in December 2020 that if Russian security services had wanted to kill Navalny, they “would have finished” the job.

April 23 (Reuters) - Lilia Vu kept the memory of her late grandfather in mind to maintain her composure on Sunday as she collected her maiden major title at the Chevron Championship, the 25-year-old American told reporters. I didn't feel like myself," said Vu, who started the day four strokes back after a disappointing one-over par third round. "I just felt like I was getting angry over every single little thing, and that's usually not how I roll." The win was all the more sweet for Vu after she struggled to keep going during a low point in her career three years ago. I just saw everybody that I've competed with being successful, and I just compared myself all the time," said Vu.

World number two Nelly Korda overcame a rollercoaster round on what she claimed was a completely different course than the opening round on Thursday. April 21 (Reuters) - Lilia Vu took advantage of soft conditions to move to the top the Chevron Championship leaderboard on Friday after the start of second round play at the year's first women's major was delayed by two hours due to heavy rain. "Really happy to finish today," said American Vu, the world number 12. The round left the American on six-over for the tournament well adrift of the projected one-over cut. Taiwan's Chien, the world's 189th-ranked player, was the surprise leader after round one and among the late starters on Friday along with world number one Lydia Ko. Second round play is expected to spill over into Saturday after more than two inches (5 cm) of rain dropped on the Jack Nicklaus designed layout overnight.
Not the same major splash as Chevron moves to Texas

April 19 (Reuters) - When women's golf crowns its first major winner of the season on Sunday at the Chevron Championship it will not make the same splash it once did. "I'm not really sure," said defending Chevron champion Jennifer Kupcho. "I think there might be snakes in the water here, so might be a little interesting." While a dock can be quickly constructed, it takes years to build traditions and rarely are they transferable. After missing last year's Chevron due to injury, Korda is back to full fitness with four finishes inside the top six in five starts this season, including runner-up at last month's HSBC World Championship.

LIMA, Feb 24 (Reuters) - Peru's President Dina Boluarte announced on Friday the return of the country's ambassador in Mexico in response to comments from her Mexican counterpart branding her government as unconstitutional. Boluarte said the remarks made earlier on Friday by Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador about her administration go against the international right to non-interference. Boluarte accused Lopez Obrador of backing Castillo's attempt at a "coup d'etat." Lopez Obrador told a news conference on Friday that Mexico will keep supporting Castillo, as he was "illegally ousted." Boluarte's remarks come after a meeting between Lopez Obrador and Castillo's wife, Lilia Paredes, in Mexico earlier this week.

MEXICO CITY/LIMA — Peru declared Mexico’s ambassador to Lima “persona non grata” and ordered him to leave the country on Tuesday, Peru’s foreign minister announced, in the latest escalation of tensions between the two nations after Peru ousted Pedro Castillo as president. The abrupt order, a severe measure in the world of diplomacy, gives Mexico’s envoy to the South American country just 72 hours to exit. Speaking at a news conference earlier in the day, Mexican Foreign Minister, Marcelo Ebrard, said the government was negotiating safe passage for the family of Castillo, who were inside Mexico’s Embassy in Lima. Ana Cecilia Gervasi, Peru’s foreign minister, announced later on Tuesday that safe passage for Castillo’s wife and the couple’s two children had been formally approved. Also on Tuesday, a Peruvian court struck down a request from prosecutors to prohibit Paredes from leaving the country.

REUTERS/Sebastian CastanedaLIMA/MEXICO CITY Dec 21 (Reuters) - Peru's President Dina Boluarte promoted the country's defense chief to the prime minister's job as part of a shuffle of her 11-day-old Cabinet on Wednesday, a move that followed protests this month that have left roughly two dozen people dead. Alberto Otarola, a lawyer who had been the Andean nation's defense minister, was named prime minister, and four others entered the Cabinet. That move followed Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador's public support for Castillo. Earlier, members of Castillo's family landed in Mexico City after being granted political asylum.

LIMA, Peru—Mexico said Tuesday it has granted asylum to family of former Peruvian President Pedro Castillo, the jailed leader whose attempt to dissolve Congress threw this Andean country into a political crisis during which more than two dozen people have died in protests. The government of Mexican President Andres Andrés Manuel López Obrador , an ally of Mr. Castillo, said relatives of the former Peruvian president were given asylum after entering Mexico’s Embassy in the Peruvian capital, Lima. loading"Thanks to the era of social media, we can exploit the power of images," Talbi told Reuters from her home in Belgium's capital, Brussels. In recent years she has emerged as an influential champion of the disabled, meeting politicians, attending conferences and creating social media content to promote understanding, demystify disability and squash taboos. She now has about half a million followers on social media channels. "Often we are treated like children," she told a European Day of Persons with Disabilities conference in Brussels last month, where she explained that many people post unpleasant comments and even mock her disability on social media. "I realised that these limits didn't exist in reality, that they were all in the mind."
CNN —Peruvian lawmakers have voted to oust President Pedro Castillo, dramatically escalating Wednesday’s political crisis that began hours earlier when Castillo attempted to dissolve the legislative body and install an emergency government. A majority of 101 lawmakers in the 130-person congress later voted to impeach Castillo, with the body announcing that Vice President Dina Boluarte will be sworn in as the new President of Peru. Francisco Morales, the president of Peru’s Constitutional Court, urged Boluarte to assume the presidency in a speech prior to the congressional vote. In the past, Lopez Obrador pursued contentious policies by pitching referendums - including on the cancellation of a part-built airport - to claim popular mandates for his objectives. Organizers put the number at hundreds of thousands but some political allies of Lopez Obrador gave far lower estimates. Lopez Obrador posted a video message on his Twitter as he celebrated his 69th birthday - but did not address the protests. Granda proceeded to have a long relationship with Becki Falwell, alleging that her husband was fully aware of the arrangement throughout, and endeavored to create real-estate opportunities for Granda in part to keep his wife happy. He admits that he was ambitious but basically over his head dealing with the older Falwells, while being bedazzled by their money and connections. Jerry Falwell resigned from Liberty in 2020, acknowledging Becki Falwell’s affair with Granda, while stating he was “not involved.” He also claimed that Granda had sought to blackmail the couple, a charge Granda has denied. “God Forbid” clearly provides Granda a friendly forum to tell his story, which includes how he came out on the other side of his 15 minutes of notoriety. “God Forbid: The Sex Scandal that Brought Down a Dynasty” premieres November 1 on Hulu.
A group of Russian women has attempted to send idle fathers to fight Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin's failing war in Ukraine gave rise to a "partial military mobilization" in which 300,000 new conscripts were called upon to fight. The women claim Putin's military order may produce better results than the courts, which have enabled these fathers to abandon their children with little to no financial support. But for me, my ex-husband died as a person a long time ago. If he happens to get killed, it will even be good: the child will receive compensation," Kruglova added.
“Hocus Pocus 2” should benefit from that dynamic, delivering a breezy sequel – 29 years later – that should provide go-down-easy Halloween viewing for families in the less-demanding confines of Disney+. Then again, this kind of movie hardly needs to reinvent the cauldron, representing more of a cut-and-paste job. While the not-too-scary hijinks are acceptable for kids, those scenes will likely deliver more of a kick for parents who caught the movie way back when, helping turn it into a Halloween favorite. By that measure, “Hocus Pocus 2” finds what amounts to the streaming sweet spot, feeling just big enough, but not too big. “Hocus Pocus 2” premieres September 30 on Disney+.
The Russian agency tasked with monitoring the internet was obsessed with dissident Alexey Navalny. The New York Times analyzed a trove of leaked Roskomnadzor records in a Thursday report. The Roskomnadzor records, though representative of only one of Russia's 85 regions, make clear that the authorities think Navalny remains a threat. Any articles, social media comments, or even websites where his name simply appeared in marginal links, were flagged by the agency, according to The Times. Roskomnadzor in conjunction with other facets of Russia's surveillance state also targeted anyone who supported Navalny, records show.
Starting in 2012, the year Mr. Putin retook the presidency, Roskomnadzor built a blacklist of websites that the companies were required to block. In 2021, authorities throttled access to the social media service to a crawl. It gathered information about government critics and identified shifting political opinions on social media. watch opponents and identify new threats to Mr. Putin, Mr. Voronin said. In the records, censors flagged ProUfu.ru for the critical Ukraine editorial written about Mr. Putin in February.
