PARIS — President Emmanuel Macron celebrated his country’s success at the Olympics and turned the tables on Jimmy Fallon, who hosted Sunday night’s closing ceremony. Speaking with NBC News at the presidential palace in Paris on Sunday, Macron expressed optimism about the potential for the global community to “do great things” together. He said he even appreciated the jokes about French clichés because France was able to show its unique landscapes, heritage and culture over the last two weeks. Macron did mention a few standouts, such as the opening ceremony on the Seine and the 22-year-old French swimmer Léon Marchand’s haul of gold medals. Asked how important the American vote is to the rest of the world, Macron said the U.S. leadership sets a tone for many other countries.

PARIS — The United States and China each won 40 gold medals, in the first Summer Games draw in Olympics history, with America pulling into a tie Sunday with victory in the last event, women’s basketball. But then San Diego native and decorated cyclist Jennifer Valente bailed out the United States by defending her gold in the women’s omnium. CNN —The Los Angeles Police Department on Sunday released photos of three individuals suspected of being involved in the fatal shooting of former “General Hospital” actor Johnny Wactor in May. The grainy photos released by LAPD on Sunday show three individuals wearing hooded sweatshirts, and police indicated the man who fired the weapon has a tattoo above his left eye and the right cheek. His mother told CNN affiliate KABC that her son had been walking with one of his coworkers when he saw what he thought was someone working on a car. LAPD told CNN at the time that three men were trying to steal a catalytic converter when the victim interrupted them. One of the suspects pulled out a gun and shot the victim before the men drove off in a vehicle, according to police.
