Some countries are fairly straightforward about their requirements for citizenship through jus sanguinis. Hungary offers citizenship based on jus sanguinis with some caveats, too. “When both of my parents got their Hungarian citizenship around four years ago, it made it easier for me to get it,” said Koszorus, 41, who received his Hungarian citizenship this summer, less than a year after he started the paperwork and application process. And a private Facebook group called Dual US-Italian Citizenship has more than 70,000 members and is among many other resources available to people who think they might have a blood right path to Italian citizenship. Florida-based travel writer Terry Ward lives in Tampa and has the blood right to Italian citizenship through her paternal great-great-grandfather.

Prosecutors have already charged Ryan Wesley Routh with two firearms offenses, and a federal magistrate judge on Monday ordered him detained pending further court proceedings. The attempted assassination charge is “pretty rare,” according to former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, a CNN senior law enforcement analyst. But it has been used in other high-profile attempted assassination cases, such as that of a man charged with traveling to Brett Kavanaugh’s Maryland home with a gun, burglary tools and other equipment in an apparent attempt on the Supreme Court justice’s life. To prove their case, prosecutors would have to convince a jury that Routh took affirmative steps to carry out a plot to kill the former president. Ron DeSantis said last week that the state “will be conducting its own investigation regarding the attempted assassination at Trump International Golf Club.” Routh has not been charged in state court.

TikTok said Monday it had removed accounts belonging to Russian state media outlets RT and Sputnik for engaging in what TikTok called “covert influence operations.”The social video app said in a statement on its website that it removed accounts associated with TV-Novosti and Rossiya Segodnya, the parent organizations of the RT television network and the Russian news agency Sputnik. The suspensions follow the Biden administration’s accusations this month that RT acts as an arm of Moscow’s spy agencies. Social media rivals Meta and YouTube have announced similar suspensions of Russian state media accounts, although other tech companies such as X have left up RT and Sputnik accounts. RT and Sputnik both published reports over the weekend saying that some of their accounts had been deleted without explanation. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said this month that he believed Russian outlets such as RT had moved beyond working as media outlets and had turned into covert intelligence operations.

Ted Purdom, from San Anselmo, California, graduated in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in English and enrolled in an overseas language program, aiming to learn Spanish. He ended up in Mallorca, the capital of the Balearic islands off the east coast of Spain, for the nine-month program. A friend told him about another program that placed American “language coaches” in Spain, called “Auxiliares de Conversación,” (conversation assistants), run by the Spanish Ministry of Education. So that November he opened The Bridge English Academy in Manacor, converting a former wine store into classrooms to give English language courses to locals. Then there’s the fact that the islanders’ first language isn’t Spanish, but Mallorquin, a dialect of Catalan.

Now unions are pushing back, demanding the return of traditional pension plans their members lost in past concession deals. First, a traditional pension plan that pays retirees, or their survivors, a fixed amount of money every month until they die, known as a defined benefit plan. Far less than 1% have only a traditional pension plan. The loss of the traditional pension plan at Boeing 10 years ago is one of the issues driving the strike this year. But the deck is stacked against that kind of reopening of a pension plan at Boeing, even with “pension or bust” signs on the current picket lines.

Read previewA recent sleepover made me consider how different my childhood was compared to my children's. While my sleepovers were better than theirs, their experiences in other areas of their childhood seem much better. And while I'm happy they get to have those experiences, I'm also starting to get a little jealous.
