In America, it’s the president who decides whether the country goes to nuclear war. In this audio essay, W.J. Hennigan argues against the United States’ sole decision-making authority on nuclear weapons. The country’s nuclear power structure, he says, is “too much power for one person to have, to decide whether or not the world as we know it will exist.”(A full transcript of this audio essay will be available within 24 hours of publication in the audio player above.)

The AI boom is breathing life into edge computing, which moves data processing away from the cloud. Artificial intelligence is driving us into the era of edge computing — two words you should expect to hear more in the coming months and years. Now they're expanding to edge computing, which refers to moving more of the computation closer to the user (the "edge" of the network). Amazon had eyed edge computing as a billion-dollar business, Business Insider previously reported. Jillian Kaplan, the head of global 5G at Dell, said during an MWC panel that edge computing will be a "huge energy saver."

Poland recently ousted its right-wing, nationalist Law and Justice Party. After a trip to Poland, the Times Opinion columnist Michelle Goldberg came to recognize that similar dynamics could prevail in the United States in 2024. In this audio essay, she argues that Joe Biden’s campaign should take note of what a “powerful mobilizing force the backlash to abortion bans can be.”(A full transcript of this audio essay will be available by Monday, and can be found in the audio player above.)

This is the third time that I’ve really closely covered these races. I do think the weather is an election story, but it’s hard to know exactly what it means.
