New cosmic photos of galactic "arcs and streaks" in space were released on Tuesday by NASA's James Webb Telescope. The galaxies are bending space and time in a phenomenon known as gravitational lensing. The SDSS J1226+2149 galaxy cluster shown in this newest photo is around 6.3 billion light years away, in the constellation Coma Berenices, according to the ESA. Researchers at NASA used infrared wavelengths to take three photos of galaxies, "getting their first look at star formation, gas, and dust in nearby galaxies with unprecedented resolution." The Webb telescope’s images of NGC 1433, NGC 7496 & NGC 1365 reveal the galaxies' networks of gas and dust in extraordinary detail. This data is part of an ongoing Webb survey of 19 spiral galaxies. NASANASA researchers used the James Webb Telescope to capture the images, according to a news release. The first Webb telescope photo shows "a gray spiral galaxy with a bright white, circular core," according to NASA.

NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope — the next-generation observatory that has already beamed back some of the clearest and most stunning views of the universe — was used for the first time to confirm the existence of an exoplanet, scientists announced Wednesday. The exoplanet confirmation marks an important milestone for the $10 billion Webb telescope, which launched into space in December 2021 and began science operations less than a year ago. “These first observational results from an Earth-size, rocky planet open the door to many future possibilities for studying rocky planet atmospheres with Webb,” Mark Clampin, director of the astrophysics division at NASA headquarters in Washington, D.C., said in a statement. “Webb is bringing us closer and closer to a new understanding of Earth-like worlds outside our solar system, and the mission is only just getting started.”

This “hot Saturn” was one of the first exoplanets that the Webb telescope examined when it first began its regular science operations. SpaceX's Falcon 9 rockets will be used in two launches by the European Space Agency. The agency's boss has previously warned that the rest of the world's space tech is falling behind SpaceX. "In response to EU sanctions against our enterprises, Roscosmos is suspending cooperation with European partners in organizing space launches," it announced at the time. Elon Musk's SpaceX will launch the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope in 2026 under a new NASA contract. The telescope will study dark energy, dark matter, galaxies, and exoplanets, NASA said. The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, which is 2.4 meters in diameter, is slated to launch in October 2026, the space agency said in a press release.
