A couple of major European airlines, including Air France , are telling travelers not to contact the company through Twitter. Twitter has long provided a fast way for frustrated fliers to reach airline customer-service desks—a service many people used last summer as hold times on the phone stretched for hours. Airlines themselves encouraged customers to reach them via Twitter.
For some U.S. travelers, this summer’s hottest European destination is one without other Americans. American tourists mobbed Europe last year, and 2023 is looking even busier, travel advisers say. Reservations for European trips rose 8% over last summer, according to data from Hopper, a travel app. Delta Air Lines President Glen Hauenstein said last week that 75% of seats on the carrier’s international flights this summer are already booked, even with added flights and seats.

Booze on a Cruise Now Costs More for Travelers
  + stars: | 2023-03-30 | by ( Jacob Passy | ) www.wsj.com   time to read: 1 min
Boozy drink packages are a big reason passengers choose to book a cruise. They are also starting to cost a lot more. Cruises blame the rising price of all-inclusive drink packages over the past year on high inflation. The companies say cruise demand among travelers is very high, and lines have added capacity compared with 2019. But the industry is still recovering from the pandemic shutdown.

Spring Break Travel May Break the Bank for Fliers This Year
  + stars: | 2023-03-08 | by ( Jacob Passy | ) www.wsj.com   time to read: 1 min
The surge in airfare prices reflects how much travel demand has recovered from the pandemic to places like Disney World in Florida. Flying to the most popular destinations for spring getaways is costing travelers significantly more on average than before the pandemic. Warm-weather destinations are among those seeing the largest jump in prices compared with 2019, according to an analysis of U.S. travel agency ticket sales from Airlines Reporting Corp., a company that processes tickets for travel agencies.
Some parents have found a shortcut to save money and dodge crowds on family vacations: They enjoy a break while all the other kids are stuck in class—and perhaps frame Mickey Mouse as educational. Airfare and hotel prices are high right now, particularly for popular travel dates around spring break or summer vacation. Sightseers are back in force. To circumvent the added cost and headaches, many families are opting to pull their children out of school for trips.

The newest ride at Universal Studios Hollywood, Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, takes visitors into the classic Nintendo game using augmented reality and animatronics. It also warns that they might not be allowed to ride if their waistline measures 40 inches or more. The ride, one of several at the California park with that admonition, illustrates how navigating theme parks has grown tougher for plus-size visitors as parks balance accessibility with heightened safety requirements.
Travelers With Food Allergies Fight for Early Boarding
  + stars: | 2023-01-15 | by ( Jacob Passy | ) www.wsj.com   time to read: 1 min
Some travelers with food allergies say airlines aren’t doing enough to ensure their safety on flights and are asking regulators to step in. Passengers with potentially life-threatening allergies say that being able to notify flight crews of their medical conditions and to preboard flights to clean their seats is crucial. They say that the policies vary widely from carrier to carrier and that execution of them can vary from flight to flight. Some of these travelers have called on the Department of Transportation to mandate access to preboarding and other policies for passengers with allergies.
Flight Delays Unleash Day of Chaos at U.S. Airports
  + stars: | 2023-01-12 | by ( Jacob Passy | Ben Kesling | ) www.wsj.com   time to read: 1 min
The holiday travel rush is over. Many U.S. travelers on Wednesday morning found their flight troubles weren’t. An outage with the Federal Aviation Administration’s Notice to Air Missions system temporarily grounded all flights in the U.S. As of late afternoon, nearly 1,300 flights to, from, or within the U.S. had been canceled, and nearly 9,000 were delayed, according to FlightAware, a flight-data specialist.
Disney fans have grown increasingly critical of the parks business as the company’s theme parks in California and Florida have grown more expensive and more complicated to book. Robert Iger is making a peace offering to Disney ‘s most fervent fans, in what amounts to his first major change to Walt Disney Co.’s theme-parks business since returning to the company as chief executive in November. Effective immediately, holders of annual passes to Disney’s Orlando-area Walt Disney World Resort will be able to visit the theme parks during afternoon hours without making a reservation, the company’s head of parks Josh D’Amaro said in a memo to staff Tuesday.
Getting Results—and Money—When Airlines Cancel Flights
  + stars: | 2023-01-05 | by ( Jacob Passy | ) www.wsj.com   time to read: 1 min
Canceled or delayed flights can cost travelers money. Getting an airline to pay you back for expenses like hotel stays and rental cars isn’t impossible, but it can involve lots of legwork. Many travelers are now learning this the hard way in the wake of the Christmas week meltdown for Southwest Airlines Co. that saw the carrier cancel nearly 16,000 flights.
