CNN —A funeral and burial will be held Monday for the 6-year-old boy who was fatally stabbed when his Chicago-area landlord allegedly attacked him and his mother because the family is Muslim. The attack, which also left Wadea’s mother seriously injured, is being investigated by the Department of Justice as a hate crime. Czuba was taken to the Will County Adult Detention Facility and is awaiting his initial court appearance, according to the sheriff’s office. “He was a 6-year-old boy, he loved everything,” Rehab said of the child, recalling how Wadea’s father had described his son. In response, Israel has pounded Gaza with airstrikes that have killed more than 2,750 people, according to the Palestinian health ministry.

REUTERS/Nacho Doce/File photo Acquire Licensing RightsMADRID, Oct 9 (Reuters) - U.S.-based buyout fund Apollo Global Management is readying a bid with local fund JB Capital for the Spanish unit of telecom giant Vodafone (VOD.L), the Expansion newspaper reported on Monday citing unidentified sources with knowledge of the matter. The news about a potential bid comes three weeks after British telecom investment company Zegona (ZEG.L) said it was in talks with Vodafone to buy the Spanish unit. Vodafone CEO Margherita Della Valle launched a strategic review of the Spanish unit earlier this year. Vodafone is one of the three largest telecom operators in Spain together with Telefonica (TEF.MC) and the local unit of France's Orange (ORAN.PA). “The border wall – the money was appropriated for the border wall,” Biden told reporters in the Oval Office on Thursday. JB Pritzker sent a letter to the White House demanding federal coordination to deal with people crossing the border. Pritzker and Johnson both gave White House officials an earful in a hastily arranged conference call late Sunday, according to CNN’s report. CNN reported back in September on the breakdown in the relationship between the White House and New York’s mayor. Earlier this month, CNN spent the night in the Roosevelt Hotel, which closed as a commercial enterprise during the pandemic and now is used to temporarily house migrants.

POTCHEFSTROOM, South Africa, Sept 12 (Reuters) - Aiden Markram's century and a successful spin attack saw South Africa beat Australia by 111 runs in the third One Day International at the JB Marks Oval on Tuesday to win their first match of the five-game series. However, South Africa did get lucky when David Warner was run out and Tim David then given out after a review of a catch that looked to have been dropped but was ruled fair by the fourth umpire after a TV review. Markram also had a touch of fortune about reaching his second ODI century, dropped in the deep on 95 which allowed him to reach the three-figure milestone. But it was a vital innings that propelled South Africa to a formidable total after they lost their way mid-innings. Bavuma went quickly thereafter for 57 and the home team’s run rate slowed markedly as Australia pinned them back.

Redwood Materials, the battery and e-waste recycling startup founded by former Tesla CTO JB Straubel, announced Tuesday that it has closed a $1 billion funding round to expand operations in the U.S. The company takes spent electric vehicle batteries, breaks them down, and uses the metals from them —including nickel, copper, cobalt, and lithium — to produce new components that can go into electric vehicle batteries. One of Redwood's major goals is to produce battery components domestically to reduce some of the global trade and geopolitical risks around the electric vehicle industry. As CNBC previously reported, earlier this year Redwood locked in a $2 billion loan commitment from the Department of Energy. For its new growth funding round, Goldman Sachs Asset Management, Capricorn's Technology Impact Fund, and other un-named funds advised by T. Rowe Price Associates led the deal, according to a company statement.

Aug 29 (Reuters) - Redwood Materials said on Tuesday it had raised more than $1 billion in new funding as the battery materials firm, founded by former Tesla (TSLA.O) executive JB Straubel, seeks to expand its operations in the United States. The company in February received a conditional commitment for a $2 billion loan from the U.S. Energy Department to build a $3.5-billion recycling and re-manufacturing complex in Nevada for electric-vehicle battery materials. The latest funding round for Redwood, founded in 2017 by Straubel, was co-led by Goldman Sachs Asset Management, Capricorn's Technology Impact Fund and funds advised by T. Rowe Price Associates. "We will use our Series D funding to continue building our capacity, expanding the domestic battery supply chain and allowing our customers to purchase battery materials made in the US," Redwood said. The Carson City, Nevada-based company has a long-term partnership with Panasonic (6752.T), which builds battery cells in Nevada in a joint venture with Tesla, for providing battery materials.

CNN is moving a step closer to its digital future. The cable news network will start a 24-hour streaming channel on Max beginning on Sept. 27, Warner Bros. Discovery, which is CNN’s parent company and also owns Max, said on Thursday. The CNN Max channel will feature distinct live programming, including a streaming-only news program hosted by the veteran anchor Jim Sciutto, but in a more unusual move, it will livestream several programs from the cable network, the company said. The overlap will include at least four hours of cable shows like “The Lead With Jake Tapper,” “The Situation Room With Wolf Blitzer” and “Anderson Cooper 360.” The cable shows will stream at the same time they appear on cable, JB Perrette, the president of global streaming at Warner Bros.

Some posts on social media in the wake of the fires on the Hawaiian island of Maui, however, suggested that the fact some trees had remained standing showed proof that the fires were somehow engineered or steered to intentionally burn homes and vehicles, leaving trees unscathed. Reuters photographs and satellite imagery of the Lahaina Banyan Court area produced by Maxar Technologies shows buildings, vehicles and trees damaged following the fires (shorturl.at/bpsTX), (here). Other trees were more heavily damaged, but remained standing, Reuters pictures show (here), (here). Regardless, the fact that some trees could remain standing or were less damaged than cars or buildings during a fire is not abnormal. Trees sometimes survive severe damage during fires due to factors including their water content and the ways a fire spreads.

Goldman Sachs highlighted a slew of stocks on its U.S. "conviction list — director's cut" selection, naming several "most differentiated buy recommendations," in an August 1 research note. Goldman's "directors' cut" is a list of stocks chosen by its U.S. research analysts and managers. The bank collated a list of "top ideas that offer a combination of conviction, a differentiated view and high risk-adjusted returns," before shortlisting 20 to 25 names. Industrial names on the bank's "directors' cut" list included several that Goldman said are benefiting from post-pandemic demand, such as building services firm Johnson Controls and waste disposal company Republic Services . Goldman's note also included a "What has worked" heading, under which its analysts named three stocks.
