A family discovered that a painting hanging on the wall of their home could be worth millions. The painting was a genuine Anthony van Dyck and had been on their wall for decades. A Madrid art company authenticated it as a van Dyck last year, per the report. AdvertisementAdvertisementA previous van Dyck paintings to go to auction at Sotheby's sold for £8.3 million, which is about $10 million, according to the auction house's website. The Argentina captain is a doubt for the U.S. Open Cup final when his team will aim to claim their second title after winning the Leagues Cup last month. The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner has scored 11 goals and provided five assists in 12 games for Inter Miami since his arrival from Paris St Germain in July. The Miami side are yet to lose with Messi on the pitch and Martino said he would not consider playing the 36-year-old if it were not a cup final.

Pipes for the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea, which are not used, are seen in the harbour of Mukran, Germany, on September 30, 2022. Before Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the Nord Stream 1 pipeline had accounted for 15% of Europe's gas imports in 2021, according to the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies. A second Nord Stream 2 link was planned but never operated. "Our biggest risk was that Russia can manipulate our energy markets," EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson told Reuters. Climate Alliance and the Biden administration are expected to announce a pledge Thursday to quadruple the number of heat pumps in U.S. homes by 2030, from 4.7 million to 20 million. Heat pumps use little electricity, yet are able to heat and cool buildings. Buildings account for more than 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions. The pledge on heat pumps is a collection of state initiatives to work toward the goal of ramping down emissions to zero by 2050. Alliance governors have pledged to collectively reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by at least 26% by 2025 and at least 50% by 2030, compared to 2005 emission levels.

Top of the table clash gives Milan derby extra edge

The match at the San Siro will be the first time since 1962 that the Milan sides meet while top of the table. But this Milan side are a different proposition from the team who put up such a disappointing defence of their league title last season. Preparations for the derby will mostly come down to the last few days with most of their starting players returning from international duty. Milan have a concern over Giroud after he went off injured in France's win over Ireland last week but are hopeful he can recover. Jose Mourinho's AS Roma, with just one point from three games, will try to kick-start their season when they host Empoli on Sunday.

Summary Ukraine expects more air attacks on power grid this winterRussia struck energy facilities across Ukraine last winterKyiv has bolstered its air defences in preparationZHYTOMYR REGION, Ukraine, Sept 7 (Reuters) - Ukrainian air defence crews are banking on newer and better weapons systems to help prevent their country being plunged into darkness once again in a second winter of Russian missile and drone strikes. Nearly half of Ukraine's energy system was damaged by Russian attacks last winter, when Moscow pummelled power plants and transformers with cruise missiles and Iranian-made Shahed drones. The threat of attacks on the power grid remains acute following reports that Moscow has set up its own facilities to manufacture assault drones based on the Shahed-136. Skybytskyi said Russian attacks on energy infrastructure could begin in late September or early October. COST-EFFECTIVEThe Shaheds are estimated by military analysts to cost about $20,000 each, but the Western-supplied air defence missiles Kyiv used last winter cost many times more.

Inter shares are on fire this year and are unlikely to cool down anytime soon, according to Citi. Analyst Rafael Frade upgraded the Brazilian company — which has a " super app " that combines e-commerce, investing, airplane ticket purchasing and other services — to buy from neutral. Frade noted that Inter's second-quarter results made him more confident in the company's ability to deliver stronger returns going forward. Inter earlier this week reported net income and revenue for the second quarter that beat analyst expectations. Inter shares have had a stellar year, rallying 80% in that time.

July 20 (Reuters) - Lionel Messi has already proved to be a team player at his new club Inter Miami as the Argentine forward surprised a team mate in the players' group chat by providing a timely assist with tickets to his presentation on Sunday. The new team mates of the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner did not want to miss the event either, and forward Leonardo Campana turned to Inter's WhatsApp group for spare passes. "On Sunday, Campana was looking for tickets and he put in the group chat if anybody has any," Inter defender DeAndre Yedlin told the reporters. "I didn't even know whether Messi was in the group chat yet, but he popped up straightway and said, 'How many do you need though?' A sold-out crowd of about 20,000 fans waited through a delay caused by heavy rain and lightning to see Messi being presented with his No.

LONDON, June 26 (Reuters) - Britain's Prince William, heir to the throne, launched a five-year programme on Monday to help homeless people in six locations, a cause close to his heart. He said the "Homewards" project will provide funding, expertise and partnerships to help prevent homelessness in six areas. The Prince will reveal the locations on Monday and Tuesday as he visits them. It will allow retail investors to join the high-value art market, purchasing fractional ownership. The IPO is led by Artex, with shares only available on a specially made art stock exchange. Shares will be valued at around $100 each and will trade on a newly formed art stock exchange in Liechtenstein. By splitting a work's cost into more-affordable shares, retail investors can join the market without having to pay millions of dollars. While other companies have offered fractionalized ownership for artwork before, Artex is the first to take a piece public, allowing shares to be traded more easily.

Ilkay Gundogan (C) of Manchester City lifts the UEFA Champions League trophy after the team's victory in the UEFA Champions League 2022/23 final match against Inter at Ataturk Olympic Stadium. Manchester City completed the treble with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Inter Milan in the Champions League final in Istanbul. Having already overhauled Arsenal to retain the Premier League trophy and beaten Manchester United to lift the FA Cup at Wembley, this victory saw them match the achievement of their city rivals in 1999. City's task was made more difficult when Kevin De Bruyne trudged off injured in the first half, the second time in three seasons that he has departed a Champions League final with the game in the balance. The midfielder measured his finish, bending it beyond two Inter defenders and into the corner of the net to break the deadlock.

I felt it, we did a great job in both games," said Martinez, who won the World Cup with Argentina in December. "Playing in the Champions League final is a dream. Inter coach Simone Inzaghi fielded an unchanged team from the first leg, with Martinez and Dzeko up front, having rested players in Serie A over the weekend. And never before in their history had they gone four games in a row without finding the net against Inter. The real disappointment would be not playing in the Champions League next year."
Solar-powered balloons are recording mysterious sounds below human hearing in the stratosphere. These balloons listen to the Earth from a dozen miles up, but not in frequencies that the human ear can detect. "In the infrasound domain our planet is very rich," Bowman, a scientist at Sandia National Laboratories, told Insider. "I think one of the reasons humans can't hear infrasound is because we'd go nuts if we could." But Bowman wants to see more people flying infrasound-recording stratosphere balloons.
REUTERS/Claudia GrecoPADUA, Italy, May 9 (Reuters) - Passionate Inter Milan fan Enrico Vanzini went to the club's San Siro stadium to watch his team play for the first time in 2022. "I prayed to God to give me the joy of Inter winning, and hopefully He will agree," he said, wearing an Inter t-shirt with his name inscribed on the back. "I would do anything (for a win), including (giving up) my small pension." Vanzini, who received his Inter t-shirt from the club to mark his 100th birthday, began testifying about his experiences of the Holocaust in the early 2000s. But he has a suggestion to help the team defeat Milan and reach the first Champions League final since 2010.
Maurizio Sarri's Lazio side face a tough test in Milan, who have been unbeaten at San Siro in their last eight games in all competitions. Lazio have 64 points ahead of Juve (63) and Inter Milan (60) with Atalanta, Milan and AS Roma (58) jostling for the top four. Pioli, whose Milan team were dethroned by Napoli in the league, also have a Champions League semi-final, first leg against Inter on Wednesday to think about. "Last year we took big steps forward when we came out of the Champions League, while this year in Europe we're doing exceptional things." Juve have found scoring on the road difficult, managing only four goals in their last five league games.
LOS ANGELES, April 28 (Reuters) - Barely five weeks after the last bout of heavy rain and snow in California's historically wet winter, firefighters on Friday battled the state's first large wildfire of the year in rugged foothills east of Los Angeles. The blaze posed no immediate threat to populated areas as it burned steep terrain deep in the forest, agency spokesperson Lyn Sieliet said. Still, it marked the first blaze of the 2023 season measuring 100 acres or more, signaling the potential for extreme wildfire activity this summer and fall. Forecasters said a warming trend hastened a spring thaw following a spate of Pacific storms that pummeled California with torrential rains and mountain snow from late December until late March.
