CNN —Josef Newgarden won the 107th running of the Indianapolis 500 in a wild finish Sunday after three crashes in the last 16 laps. When the checkered flag finally waved after nearly three hours, it was Newgarden who claimed his first Indy 500 win – but getting there required a lot of drama. The green flag waved again with one lap to go, and Ericsson initially extended his lead over the chasing Newgarden. But Newgarden caught Ericsson and slingshot past him on the back straightaway to reclaim the lead. “I’ve always wanted to go into the crowd here in Indianapolis,” Newgarden said in a postrace interview on NBC’s telecast.

[1/2] The new Red Bull F-1 Racing Team unveils the RB19 car in a partnership with Ford during a launch event in New York City, U.S., February 3, 2023. Where once NASCAR and IndyCar had a stranglehold on American gearheads, the splash hit Netflix docu-drama "Drive to Survive" has indoctrinated legions of new fans in the United States. Las Vegas will join Austin and Miami as the third race in the United States in the 2023 calendar as F1 looks to make further inroads into the lucrative market. The event also served as the unveiling of a new partnership with the Ford Motor Company, which will partner Red Bull Powertrains, the company established to build engines for Red Bull, in a show of confidence for the sport's U.S. popularity. Ford will return to Formula One with the reigning champions in 2026 after an absence of more than 20 years.

"Welcome to the family, Mick," McLaren said on Twitter, pointing out also that new team principal Andrea Stella was previously performance engineer to Michael Schumacher at Ferrari. McLaren had a reserve-sharing agreement with Renault-owned Alpine last season, when Australian Piastri was Alpine's third driver. McLaren then won a contract dispute with Alpine for Piastri to race for them this year. Mercedes and Williams shared Nyck de Vries as reserve last season, with the Dutch driver now due to race with Red Bull-owned AlphaTauri. McLaren also have 2021 IndyCar champion Alex Palou contracted to a reserve role where the Spaniard's schedules allow.
Larson to attempt Indy 500 and NASCAR 600 double in 2024

Jan 12 (Reuters) - Kyle Larson will attempt the Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR Coca-Cola 600 double next year after announcing on Thursday he would join Arrow McLaren Racing for a one-off run at the famed Brickyard. Larson, the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion, will become the first driver to attempt the double since Kurt Busch raced in both events in 2014. Only four drivers have attempted the double of racing in Indy 500 in Indianapolis and flying to Charlotte, North Carolina to jump in a car and run the Coca-Cola 600 later that same day. While Rick Hendrick's stock car teams have won a record 291 Cup Series races, the Indy 500 will mark Hendrick Motorsports first IndyCar series event. McLaren have routinely added notable names to their driver lineup for the Indy 500, including twice Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso.
If more female fans tune in, they will help Chief Executive Stefano Domenicali fuel revenue at his motor-racing division. Around 40% of F1 fans are now female, up 8% from 2017, and more women are attending races too, Domenicali said in November. One way to accelerate the trend could be featuring female drivers. She also boasts a fanbase of over half a million social media followers – more than the W Series itself. Unfortunately for Formula One, when financial pressures ended W Series 2022 early, she absconded to Andretti Autosport’s team for the U.S. IndyCar NXT races.
So why has it taken so long to develop jet packs that can reach 1,200 feet and fly up to 10 minutes? Why has it taken almost a century for us to see real jet packs? Narrator: The arrival of small but powerful jet engines designed for model aircraft brought back an interest in the possibilities of jet packs. Less than 10 years later, companies like Gravity Industries have demonstrated what modern microturbine-powered jet packs are capable of. But it's not far-fetched to think that jet packs like Gravity's could be used for more than just recreation.

All going to plan, he will become the first American to race in Formula One since Alexander Rossi entered five grands prix with now-defunct Marussia in 2015. Capito said Sargeant had performed as expected and done exactly what he was told to do in practice. Sargeant will replace Canadian Nicholas Latifi at the former champions, who are currently last in the standings, alongside experienced British-born Thai Alex Albon. The Formula Two title has been won already by Brazilian Felipe Drugovich but Sargeant has won two races. "I think we need an American driver and not just a driver but a successful driver competing in there as well, and it shouldn't just be Brad Pitt."
At the same time Red Bull can clinch their first constructors' championship since 2013. If Ferrari fail to score 19 points more than Red Bull in Texas, the contest is over. "If we can make a step, hopefully, we can get into the fight with the Ferraris and the Red Bulls," said trackside engineering director Andrew Shovlin. Mexican fans will be relishing the battle for second place in the drivers' championship, with Red Bull's Sergio Perez only a point ahead of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc. The Circuit of the Americas is celebrating its 10th anniversary as U.S. Grand Prix host and organisers expect a record 440,000-strong three-day crowd as the sport continues to surge in popularity in America.

"Să urc într-un bolid de Formula 1 e ceea ce mă face să fiu eu însumi, pentru că în ultimii 10 ani doar asta am făcut. Atunci când urci într-un Mercedes e un moment special, e un bolid care a câștigat mai multe titluri mondiale, e o echipă care a făcut treabă bună în ultimii ani. ", a spus fostul pilot Formula 1, Romain Grosjean. Accidentul de anul trecut i-a încheiat cariera în Formula 1 pilotului în vârstă de 35 de ani.
