The auto research firm JD Power assessed dozens of vehicle brands for its latest quality study. The overall quality of new vehicles is deteriorating and nagging problems are on the rise, according to a new study from JD Power. "The basic touch point of door handles is now a percolating problem area as manufacturers attempt to redesign them," JD Power said. JD Power assigned a score to each auto brand based on problems per 100 vehicles, and calculated an industry average of 192 problems per 100 vehicles (PP100), up from 180 in 2022. In terms of vehicles themselves, the Nissan Maxima had the highest initial quality overall, with 106 problems per 100 vehicles, according to the survey.

Amazon said Thursday that revenue from its cloud unit increased 12% year over year in the second quarter, a speedier pace than analysts had predicted. Revenue for the quarter came to $22.1 billion, beating the $21.79 billon consensus among analysts surveyed by StreetAccount. AWS operating income has now declined for three consecutive quarters. Google and Microsoft are also moving quickly to make money as companies look to take advantage of generative AI following the rise of startup OpenAI's ChatGPT chatbot. AWS CEO Adam Selipsky told CNBC in June that the generative AI "race" has just started.

Microsoft still isn't disclosing the size of its Azure business, providing only the growth rate for the cloud business and leaving investors guessing how its revenue compares to Amazon and Google . But in its much smaller Dynamics business, which includes software for salespeople, marketers and customer-service agents, Microsoft has suddenly opted for greater transparency. In its annual report to investors last week, Microsoft disclosed Dynamics revenue in a table alongside other products for the first time. He also noted that Microsoft Sales Copilot, a tool capable of writing business-oriented email drafts, integrates with Dynamics as well as Salesforce's software. Partly motivated by Microsoft's AI capabilities, some companies are switching to Dynamics from Salesforce, said Manny Medina, CEO of sales software startup Outreach.

The nation's largest retailer said Thursday that it will cut the price of Walmart+ in half for those low-income households. Walmart has not disclosed total Walmart+ subscribers, but said about a quarter of its members get government assistance. Walmart launched Walmart+ in 2020 to hook shoppers and increase the likelihood of them spending more on its website and in stores. Along with the Walmart+ discounted price, Walmart said it has made it easier for families receiving food aid to shop online. It said it now accepts SNAP online in all 50 states.

She predicts generative AI will be a permanent part of her marketing strategy in four to six months. The art was created by generative AI and touched up by a human artist. SAP's marketing team also used generative AI for tasks that are less splashy, more internally-oriented, but just as important. In one exercise, SAP employees used generative AI to create a script for product demos, but the scripts occasionally referenced products that didn't actually exist. Part of this consideration includes figuring out whether to continue partnering with generative AI solution providers or build the tools internally.
