JAKARTA, Jan 22 (Reuters) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo's approval rating has hit an all-time high after the government eased COVID-19 restrictions last month, a poll showed on Sunday. Figures released by pollster Lembaga Survei Indonesia (LSI) showed satisfaction with the president, widely known as Jokowi, had risen consistently over recent months to reach 76.2% at the start of 2023. The more than 10-point jump put Jokowi on his highest approval rating recorded by LSI during his current term which began in 2014. The LSI poll, conducted between Jan. 7-11 and covering more than 1,200 respondents, also comes months after the start of a high-profile trial against a former Indonesian police general. Jokowi's poll rating appears to have been unaffected by both the passing last month of a controversial new criminal code, and his issuing of an emergency regulation to replace the jobs law.

LONDON, Oct 25 (Reuters) - The World Health Organization has drawn up the first ever list of fungal pathogens posing the greatest threat to human health, warning that some strains are increasingly drug-resistant and becoming more widespread. The U.N. body, which has similar lists for viruses and bacteria, said fungal infections and their increasing resistance to treatment were a growing risk. Fungal infections often strike people who are already severely ill, like cancer or tuberculosis patients, and rates jumped among hospitalized COVID-19 patients during the pandemic. The list divides the pathogens into three categories based on their potential impact and data on their resistance risk: critical, high and medium priority. The medium group lists a number of other fungi, including Coccidioides spp and Cryptococcus gattii.
The LGBTQ student group at Yeshiva University made the “painful” decision to pause its efforts to receive official university recognition so that the university would allow the rest of its student clubs to continue operating, the group said Thursday. “This was a painful and difficult decision,” the Pride Alliance said in the statement. “Now that Pride Alliance has offered a stay, we have sent their lawyers a signed agreement to stay the trial court order,” Eisenman said, according to a news release. “We came to YU because we want to be part of this institution,” the Pride Alliance said in its Wednesday statement. “YU accepted us as students, YU collects the same tuition from us as everyone else, and we will not be second-class citizens.

REUTERS/Elizabeth Frantz/File PhotoSept 22 (Reuters) - An LGBT student group has agreed to hold off on forcing Yeshiva University to formally recognize it while the Jewish school in New York City appeals a judge's order requiring it to do so - an action the institution said would violate its religious values. Yeshiva last week halted all student club activities after the U.S. Supreme Court declined to block New York state court judge Lynn Kotler's June order requiring the university to recognize the Y.U. The university is appealing Kotler's finding that it is subject to a city anti-discrimination law. The Modern Orthodox Jewish university, based in Manhattan, has roughly 6,000 students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs.
