Little did Hall know, her pivot into education would afford her a new level of financial security and a sense of purpose she never expected. She took a high school science position with Arlington Preparatory Academy, a public school in Baton Rouge, La., and had her first day in January 2022. Then there's the issue of teacher pay. In 2022, the average public school teacher earned a wage of $1,329 per week. Though Hall recognizes low teacher pay is an issue for many in the profession, moving to education actually meant a pay bump in her case.

A store employee habitually ripped lottery tickets after checking them with the lottery terminal. Lottery commissioners deliberated over the case of Paul Marshall, who came forward to collect his prize even though a store employee had torn his winning ticket to shreds. The tearing incident occurred when Marshall returned to the store he bought the winning ticket from to validate it. Fortunately for Marshall, lottery officials were able to "reconstruct what happened," Chuck Taylor, the lottery director of legal affairs and compliance, said, according to the Lottery Post's reporting on the meeting. Warnock said some of the “salacious” allegations in Hall's declaration have nothing to do with what was being discussed in court Thursday. The lawsuit contends that Hall opened an arbitration process on Nov. 9 against Oates and the other defendants in the lawsuit, Oates’ wife, Aimee Oates, as well as Richard Flynn, in their roles as co-trustees of Oates’ trust. Hall was seeking an order preventing them from selling their part in Whole Oats Enterprises to Primary Wave Music. Primary Wave has already owned “significant interest” in Hall and Oates’ song catalog for more than 15 years. Additionally, Hall said in his declaration he would not approve such a sale and doesn’t agree with Primary Wave’s business model.

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), the state-owned Abu Dhabi oil giant he runs, is considering a bid for BASF-owned (BASFn.DE) Wintershall Dea, at a potential $11 billion valuation. The UAE firm is already in talks to buy chemical company Covestro (1COV.DE), Wintershall’s German compatriot, for $12 billion. Abu Dhabi's oil riches mean the UAE firm has the wherewithal to pay 5.5 billion euros for BASF’s Wintershall stake. Any deal could value Wintershall Dea at more than 10 billion euros ($11 billion), Bloomberg reported. BASF holds a 72.7% stake in Wintershall Dea.

Two more women have come forward to accuse Sean "Diddy" Combs of sexual abuse, one week after the music mogul settled a separate lawsuit with the singer Cassie that contained allegations of rape and physical abuse. After their date, Combs "intentionally drugged" her, then brought her home and sexually assaulted her, according to the filing. Without her knowledge, Combs videotaped the assault and later shared it with several friends in the music industry, the suit alleges. "Upon information and belief, when Combs finished with Jane Doe, he and Hall switched, and they commenced assaulting Jane Doe's friend," the suit states. The suit brought by Dickerson notes that the victim filed police reports in New York and New Jersey after the abuse.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Erin Mendenhall is seeking reelection as mayor of Utah’s capital Tuesday in a ranked-choice contest that includes a challenge by former Mayor Rocky Anderson. Anderson, who served two terms from 2000-2008, has criticized Mendenhall for not doing enough to alleviate the rising cost of housing. "Salt Lake City is building more affordable housing than every mayoral administration combined by a lot — 413% increase in our investment in the creation of affordable housing units. However the affordable housing being built has been for those with incomes far higher than most service industry workers make, Valentine pointed out. It is the first Salt Lake City mayor's race since the capital, along with a number of Utah cities instituted ranked-choice voting in 2021.

The Justice Department filed a statement of interest in consolidated lawsuits against Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall seeking to block him from using conspiracy statutes to prosecute people who help Alabama women travel to obtain an abortion. Alabama bans abortion at any stage of pregnancy with no exceptions for rape and incest. The Justice Department argued in the filing that the U.S. Constitution protects the right to travel. David Willard has been checking the grounds of Chicago's lakefront exhibition center for dead birds for 40 years. Researchers estimate hundreds of millions of birds die in window strikes in the United States each year. When they see plants or bushes through windows or reflected in them, they head for them, killing themselves in the process. Pre-dawn rain forced the birds to drop to lower altitudes, where they found the McCormick Center’s lights on, Willard said. The first buildings at McCormick Center were constructed in 1959.
