When it comes to wedding outfit shopping, brides seem to get all the attention. There’s New York Bridal Fashion Week, a three-day extravaganza where brands showcase their newest designs. Major cities are replete with bridal boutiques, and buying the bridal gown is often considered one of the first steps in the wedding planning process. “I can’t tell you the number of times we get calls a couple of weeks before the wedding,” said Michael Andrews, who has been dressing grooms since 2006 at Michael Andrews Bespoke, his luxury clothing shop in New York. In October 2023, he opened the Groom Shop, also in New York, dedicated solely to the groom shopping experience.

GEORGETOWN, Guyana (AP) — A government commission in Guyana tasked with investigating a fire that killed 20 children at an Indigenous boarding school found multiple errors and systematic failures. The report also noted there was a lack of water supply and found “inadequacies” in the fire service and firefighting equipment. Nineteen students and the infant son of the dormitory manager died. At least 14 other students younger than 18 were rescued from the blazing, one-story building. Months after the fire, government officials said they would pay $25,000 to the parents of each of the children who died in the fire as part of a settlement.

For Brendan Gibbons, snow rules the day. "I used to say, 'We'll get our snow," Gibbons, director of snow services for Palisades Tahoe, told Business Insider. "The entire business model and opportunities for profit are getting squeezed into a shorter season with lower quality snow," Mankin said. He worries that little ski towns will suffer the most as the climate crisis worsens and potentially consolidate into larger conglomerates. Areas where average winter temperatures exceed -8 degrees Celcius, or 17 degrees Fahrenheit, will lose more and more snowpack with each degree of warming.

Kyle Juszczyk remembers the different feel when he took the field for the first time in the playoff rivalry between his San Francisco 49ers and the Green Bay Packers. That rivalry of San Francisco and Green Bay is always a big one. Favre followed with two quick touchdown passes as Green Bay rolled to a 27-17 win. Green Bay won the first playoff matchup 23-10 against Mariucci the following year as the frustration mounted in San Francisco. Wednesday’s filing alleges that Match Group cut its advertising spending on Meta’s platforms over its concerns. Wednesday’s complaint cites an alleged email exchange between Match and Meta late last year in which the dating company asked how Meta prevented its ads from running next to inappropriate content. Meta responded saying it had removed some of the flagged content, including the group, the complaint states. Former Facebook employee-turned-whistleblower Arturo Bejar also told a Senate subcommittee in November that Meta’s top executives, including Zuckerberg, ignored warnings for years about harm to teens on its platforms. Zuckerberg and Meta are refusing to be honest and transparent about what is taking place on Meta’s platforms,” Torrez said in a statement to CNN Wednesday.

The rules, two years in the making, were announced by U.S. officials at the United Nations COP28 climate change conference in Dubai. Methane tends to leak into the atmosphere undetected from drill sites, gas pipelines and other oil and gas equipment. It has more warming potential than carbon dioxide and breaks down in the atmosphere faster, so reining in methane emissions can have a more immediate impact on limiting climate change. The agency also tweaked the Super Emitter Program so that third parties send information on methane leaks to EPA directly for verification. The American Petroleum Institute, an oil and gas industry trade group, said it was reviewing the rule.

A Trump spokesperson pointed Reuters to a recent policy announcement in which the former president said EV manufacturing would harm workers. REUTERS/David Swanson/File photo Acquire Licensing RightsNov 24 (Reuters) - Canceled offshore wind projects, imperiled solar factories, fading demand for electric vehicles. A year after passage of the largest climate change legislation in U.S. history, meant to touch off a boom in American clean energy development, economic realities are fraying President Joe Biden’s agenda. Clean energy experts interviewed by Reuters say the mounting setbacks will make the United States' ambitious targets to decarbonize by mid-century even harder to reach. Solar energy facilities account for two thirds of those delays due in part to U.S. import restrictions. "These are the normal ups and downs of clean energy development and deployment," Reicher said.

Holding down multiple jobs has long been a backbreaking way for low-wage workers to get by. They freeze their employment histories with Equifax and hibernate their LinkedIn profiles, so employers can't see they're holding multiple jobs. Those with multiple jobs also seek out positions they hope will be OE-friendly — light on meetings, as well as on the workload. There's another incentive: Unlike most Americans, those who work multiple jobs don't have to worry about layoffs. There's something radical that happens to a worker's psychology when they have multiple jobs.

Companies GHGSat Inc FollowNov 11 (Reuters) - Canadian emissions monitoring company GHGSat on Saturday launched a satellite aimed at detecting carbon dioxide emissions from individual facilities like coal plants and steel mills from space for the first time. The satellite, named Vanguard, launched from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, GHGSat said. Carbon dioxide accounts for nearly 80% of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions from human activities and tends to enter the atmosphere from large industrial sources like power plants. Satellites monitoring carbon dioxide in the atmosphere currently are not focused on facility-level emissions, GHGSat said. The data collected by Vanguard will help substantiate common practices of monitoring and measuring carbon dioxide emissions, according to Stephane Germain, CEO of Montreal-based GHGSat.

Before there was tourism, there was pilgrimage: a trip of endurance, hardship and ecstasy in celebration of one’s faith. On an epic pilgrimage of his own, one writer ventures into the heart of three great religions in Bolivia, Mongolia and Iraq. The Imam Hussein shrine in Karbala the day after Ashura. “They’re poor, but they come thousands of kilometers for the love of Imam Hussein.” PILGRIMAGE WAS A great equalizer. “Labaik ya Hussein,” came the solemn chorus of surrounding voices.

Bloomberg | Bloomberg | Getty ImagesWhy Labor Department wants to raise protectionsIn 2020, about 5.7 million Americans rolled a total $618 billion into IRAs, according to most recent IRS data. IRAs held about $11.5 trillion in 2022, almost double the $6.6 trillion in 401(k) plans, according to the Investment Company Institute. Here's the problem, in the eyes of the Labor Department: 401(k) investors have certain protections that don't generally extend to IRA investments or the advice to move money to IRAs. "ERISA fiduciary duties are the highest fiduciary duties under U.S. law," said Josh Lichtenstein, partner at law firm Ropes & Gray. That advice typically generates compensation like a commission for the broker or agent, and the Labor Department is concerned those incentives may bias recommendations for certain investments that pay them more but aren't in an investor's best interests.

Activist investor Nelson Peltz may be intent on making sure Disney directors don't get that luxury. He tried earlier this year to get himself on the Disney board, only to be rebuffed by Iger and eventually walk away in February. Disney's board has also struggled to groom a successor to Iger, who has five times renewed his contract to stick around as CEO. The world's biggest offshore wind farm company on Tuesday said it would cease all development on the Ocean Wind projects even as it moves forward with developments off neighboring New York, triggering an angry response from New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy. "People did not anticipate (Orsted) backing out of Ocean Wind," said Timothy Fox, VP at research firm ClearView Energy Partners. Nipper told analysts that unlike Ocean Wind, Orsted is still pursuing Sunrise for several reasons, including the fact that the company has already lined up a vessel to build it. Under the most accelerated proposal, the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority said it could release the next offshore wind request for proposals in late November or early December. The Ocean Wind cancellation was the latest setback for the nascent U.S. offshore wind industry in recent months, which U.S. President Joe Biden and several states have counted on to fight global warming.
