The explosive growth of the resale market and the rise of fast fashion are partly to blame. It's a high that anyone who shops at thrift stores knows — and one that I've been chasing since high school. lechatnoir/Getty ImagesGen Z made thrifting mainstreamBuying used clothing has never been more popular, largely thanks to Gen Z. Still, even as thrifting has grown in popularity, so have fast fashion brands. The bright side of divorce, according to experts
  + stars: | 2024-03-19 | by ( Madeline Holcombe | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +7 min
Divorce rates have been steadily trending downward in the United States, according to recent data, but marriages ending are still a common, disruptive experience. Most people probably don’t head into marriage anticipating divorce — but for those who find themselves in one, there are ways to encourage compassion for one another and ultimately build something stronger, experts said. Grieving the lossA divorce can be amicable yet still marked by loss and grief, said Rebecca Hendrix, a marriage and family therapist in New York. Support can come from a therapist, a religious leader, friends, a divorce support group, or even books and media that make you feel less alone, she added. Divorce may motivate some reflection on ways you want to make changes or even launch the first call you ever make to a therapist, Hendrix said.

Bell told BI that Nickelodeon "was a factory," treating child actors like kings one day only to throw them to the curb the next. Dollar Tree missed Wall Street expectations for quarterly sales and profit on Wednesday and laid out plans to shutter 970 of its Family Dollar stores, as the retailer looks to revamp the struggling business. Dollar stores have been struggling to deal with a shift in consumer spending to lower-margin essentials from higher-margin discretionary products like home decor, electronics and toys. In November, Dollar Tree had said it would be reviewing its Family Dollar business, including potentially shutting down underperforming stores, to return to growth. The discount store chain said it would close about 600 Family Dollar stores in the first half of fiscal year 2024 and 370 more over a period of a few years along with 30 Dollar Tree outlets, as their lease terms expire. For the full year, Dollar Tree expects sales between $31 billion and $32 billion, the mid-point of which is below analysts' estimate of $31.65 billion.

This was nothing short of a communist invasion, in his eyes, and the patriots of Green Charter needed to rise up and confront the Red Peril. But the backlash in Green Charter represents something seldom seen since the Red Scare: a quasi-militant, homegrown resistance to the perceived threat of communism at home. But as the war over Gotion began to consume Green Charter, Riebow began to feel that the township board was behaving "too secretly." It's easy to dismiss what's happened in Green Charter as yet another sign of America's descent into dangerous incivility. Asked about Gotion's plans in Green Charter, Panetta replied, "I don't think there's any question that they are going to take advantage of that situation."

Excluding one-time items, American Eagle posted adjusted earnings of 61 cents per share. In the current quarter, American Eagle expects sales to be up by a mid-single digit percentage, which is in line with estimates of up 5%, according to LSEG. During the Covid pandemic, American Eagle spent hundreds of millions of dollars acquiring a number of shipping and distribution companies that eventually became Quiet Platforms, the retailer's internal logistics branch. Last spring, American Eagle acknowledged that Quiet Platforms wasn't performing as it had expected. To increase profits, American Eagle plans to amplify its brands by growing its namesake banner, boost Aerie's expansion and develop the activewear assortment at its Offline banner.

A New York bank is under severe pressure Friday close to one year after absorbing a large chunk of another bank 30 miles away that had failed. That pressure has been compounded at the Hicksville, New York, bank because it grew massively almost overnight after absorbing the failed Signature Bank. That put New York Community Bancorp at a new level that requires higher regulatory scrutiny, a transition that has been rocky. One of those failed banks, Signature, was acquired by New York Community Bancorp, pushing it above $100 billion in assets, which by law puts it under more scrutiny from regulators. Thrift stores are a great place to find hidden gems. A Pennsylvania Goodwill recently received an extremely rare LEGO piece that it was able to sell for a small fortune. The Dubois, Pa. store received a donation of a box of jewelry that contained something curious: a gold Bionicle mask from the popular action figure line from the early 2000s. "We didn't know what we had when we found it," a representative for Goodwill in North Central Pennsylvania told local news station WTAJ in an interview this week. "It came in a box full of random jewelry from the State College store.

A TikToker thought she found her dream pair of Prada loafers at a Goodwill boutique for $300. TikToker Maiya Mindoro learned that the hard way after purchasing her dream pair of $1,200 Prada shoes at a Goodwill boutique for $300, only to realize later they were counterfeits. AdvertisementShe said she accepted her mistake after comparing the shoes to other Prada items she'd purchased directly from the brand. Specifically, she noticed clear differences in the logo nameplates, which are flat on authentic Prada items but often textured on counterfeit pieces. And because brick-and-mortar Goodwill stores are all operated independently, as Bell pointed out, each has its own process for authenticating goods.

BEIJING (Reuters) - There are no off limits or restricted areas for fishing around a group of Taiwanese islands close to China's coast and Beijing reserves the right to take further measures after two Chinese nationals died near the islands, the government said. Taiwan, which China claims as its own territory, has complained in recent years about Chinese fishing boats and other vessels operating in Taiwan-controlled waters, especially around the Kinmen and Matsu islands which sit a short distance from China's coast. Late on Saturday, China's Taiwan Affairs Office, which has already condemned Taipei for the incident near Kinmen's Beiding islet, said the deaths had caused "strong indignation" in China. China's Taiwan Affairs Office said the government had goodwill towards Taiwan's people, but will never tolerate Taiwan's disregard for the safety of Chinese fishermen. "The mainland reserves the right to take further measures, and Taiwan shall bear all the consequences," it added, without elaborating.
