The prosecutors wrote to U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan on Thursday referencing a New York Times article titled "Inside the Private Writings of Caroline Ellison, Star Witness in the FTX Case". Ellison led Bankman-Fried's Alameda Research hedge fund and has pleaded guilty to defrauding investors and agreed to cooperate with prosecutors. In December, Bankman-Fried said he and Ellison had been in a relationship but gave no further details. Neither New York Times nor Ellison's lawyers responded to Reuters' requests for comment. The prosecutors argued that by sharing these documents, Bankman-Fried was trying to malign Ellison's credibility, and that such conduct could chill witnesses from testifying and taint the jury pool.

July 3 (Reuters) - Apple (AAPL.O) has been forced to make major cuts to production forecasts for its Vision Pro augmented-reality headset due to design complexity, the Financial Times reported on Monday citing people with direct knowledge of the process. Chinese contract manufacturer Luxshare, Apple's only assembler of the device, was preparing to make fewer than 400,000 units of Vision Pro in 2024, the newspaper said, citing two people close to Apple and Luxshare. Apple had an earlier internal sales target of 1 million units of the headset in the first 12 months, as per the FT report. A major difficulty in the production process is the manufacturing of the micro-OLED displays for the device, FT reported. Apple and Luxshare did not immediately respond to an email asking for specifics of the challenges.

July 1 (Reuters) - China's ruling Communist Party appointed central bank Deputy Governor Pan Gongsheng as the bank's party secretary on Saturday, a move the Wall Street Journal said would be a prelude to becoming governor. The party's Central Organization Department announced the decision at a meeting on Saturday afternoon, the People's Bank of China (PBOC) said in a statement on its website. The Journal reported hours earlier that Pan would be named to the party post before being appointed by the government to head the PBOC. The central bank said on Friday it would implement prudent monetary policy in a "precise and forceful manner" to support economic growth and employment. The current governor, Yi Gang, has been widely expected to retire since being left off the ruling Communist Party's Central Committee during the party's once-in-five-years congress in October.

June 29 (Reuters) - Typeface, a generative AI platform for enterprise content creation, said on Thursday that it was valued at $1 billion after an oversubscribed Series B funding round led by Salesforce's (CRM.N) global investment arm, bringing the total capital raised to $165 million. The $100 million round also saw participation from Lightspeed Venture Partners, Madrona, GV (Google Ventures), Menlo Ventures, and M12, Microsoft's Venture Fund, the company said. In February, Lightspeed Venture Partners, GV, Menlo Ventures, and M12 invested $65 million when Typeface emerged from stealth and launched publicly. Microsoft says early June service outages were cyberattacks
  + stars: | 2023-06-18 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +1 min
June 17 (Reuters) - Microsoft said on Friday that the outages that affected certain services of the company through some of the earlier days of this month were the result of cyberattacks, but said it saw no evidence of any customer data being accessed or compromised. "Beginning in early June 2023, Microsoft identified surges in traffic against some services that temporarily impacted availability'" the company said in a blog post. Microsoft said it opened an investigation and began tracking the DDoS activity by the threat actor it refers to as Storm-1359 after it identified the threat. Microsoft did not immediately respond to a request by Reuters as to whether the company had identified the party responsible for the attack. DDoS attacks work by directing high volumes of internet traffic towards targeted servers in a relatively unsophisticated bid to knock them offline.

The ILWU, however, said that the West Coast ports are open and accused the PMA of "leveraging one-sided information to influence the process." “Despite what you are hearing from PMA, West Coast ports are open as we continue to work under our expired collective bargaining agreement,” said ILWU International President Willie Adams. West Coast ports stretching from California to Washington state are critical to the U.S. supply chains and the economy. Stellantis says UK needs to change Brexit deal -BBC
  + stars: | 2023-05-16 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +1 min
Companies Stellantis NV FollowMay 16 (Reuters) - Stellantis (STLAM.MI), one of the world's biggest automakers, has said that UK needs to renegotiate parts of its Brexit deal or risk losing parts of its car industry, the BBC reported on Tuesday. The carmaker urged the government to reach an agreement with the European Union about keeping the current rules till 2027, or else "trade between the UK and EU would be subject to 10% tariffs," BBC quoted Stellantis as saying. Stellantis said its UK investments were based on meeting the strict terms of the post-Brexit free trade deal, citing a submission to a Commons inquiry into electric car production, said the report without mentioning when the statements were made. Under the trade deal, starting 2024, 45% of the value of EVs should originate in the EU or UK to qualify for trade without tariffs, the BBC said. Stellantis' submission says that uncompetitive electric vehicle costs will mean "manufacturers will not continue to invest" and will "relocate manufacturing operations outside of the UK", the report said.
May 16 (Reuters) - British car factories will be forced to close with the loss of thousands of jobs if the government does not renegotiate its Brexit deal immediately, automaker Stellantis (STLAM.MI) warned on Wednesday. "Manufacturers will not continue to invest and (instead will) relocate manufacturing operations outside of UK, as seen with previously established UK manufacturers such as Ford and Mini." Under the trade deal agreed when Britain left the bloc, 45% of the value of an electric vehicle must come from Britain or the EU from 2024 to avoid tariffs. "If you don't have a battery capability in the UK, then those car manufacturers will move to mainland Europe." Britain has drawn electric vehicle investment from Nissan and Ford, while other big players are still weighing up where to invest.
