Kings fans have showed up with a fervor that matched that of Sabonis, Malik Monk and De’Aaron Fox. At Chase Center, in San Francisco, the Warriors barred Kings fans from bringing in the clanging cowbells that hark back to Sacramento’s agrarian roots and became a sanctified symbol of the Kings’ success in the early 2000s. As the series heads back to Sacramento, think about how long Kings fans have waited to show up in the playoffs. Much has been made of the franchise’s streak of 16 seasons without a playoff appearance. But it has been 19 since the Kings came out on top in a playoff series and 21 seasons, since early in the George Bush the Younger administration, when the team was a genuine playoff threat.
A federal appeals court has allowed the abortion pill mifepristone to remain on the U.S. market for now, but it imposed major restrictions on the medication that will significantly limit access. The order bars mail delivery of the abortion pill. "If allowed to stand, the consequences of this decision will be catastrophic not just for medication abortion access, but the entire drug approval system." The Alliance Defending Freedom, the anti-abortion group that sued the FDA, said the appeals court decision restores critical safeguards while the litigation proceeds. The order does not impact misoprostol, which is commonly used as a standalone abortion medication in other parts of the world.
A United Airlines flight to Brazil returned to Texas after reports of a possible engine fire. The FAA told Insider the airline crew reported the incident during the flight. The aircraft returned to George Bush Intercontinental Airport and landed safely, the FAA said. Around two hours after takeoff, the site showed the plane circled back to George Bush Intercontinental Airport where it then landed. The FAA, George Bush Airport, and Houston's fire department didn't respond to Insider's request for comment.
Powell is leader of the free world – for now

As former President Donald Trump will attest, Powell will do what he thinks it’s right. This month, Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren, a left-wing firebrand, went on TV and called Powell a “dangerous man,” saying she doesn’t think that he should be Fed Chair. CNN television host Jake Tapper asked her if she had told Biden that Powell should be fired. Then Trump called Powell “a golfer who can’t putt, has no touch.” Trump wanted economic growth. Powell resisted and later responded saying that the Fed chair, more than anyone else, needs to be free from political pressures.
President Joe Biden will keep with tradition and feature a blue and white Air Force One fleet. The news comes years after former President Donald Trump proposed that the colors change. Trump's changes would have resulted in additional heat on significant plane parts, the Air Force said. Air Force One, the plane of the president of the United States, is seen during takeoff, June 1968. Every Air Force One plane since has kept with tradition and featured a blue and white design.
The TSA caught 6,542 guns in carry-on bags last year. Six airports in Texas and Florida contributed to the top 10 airports with firearm incidents. The TSA attributed the uptick in caught guns from increases in Americans owning and traveling with guns. Eighty-eight percent of the guns caught last year were loaded, according to a graphic released by the TSA. Marjorie Taylor Greene dismissed presidential hopeful Nikki Haley as "Bush in heels." Haley announced her bid for the 2024 presidency on Tuesday, and Trump allies have gone after her. On her personal Twitter account on Wednesday, Greene waved Haley off as "just another George (or Jeb!) The "heels" reference was not pulled out of thin air, with Haley having triumphantly referred to them in the closing moments of her video. Greene's reference to Cheney and the Bush dynasty likely aimed to place Haley squarely in a now-distant, pre-Trump era of the Republican Party.
Southwest Airlines received more than $7 billion from that program. However, analysts say, Southwest’s service meltdown is unrelated to the taxpayer assistance the airline received in 2020. Cancelled Southwest Airlines flights are seen on the flight schedules at LaGuardia Airport, Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022, in New York. In April 2020, airline passenger traffic plummeted 96% and stayed 60% below 2019 levels in 2020, according to the US Government Accountability Office. “The problems at Southwest Airlines over the last several days go beyond weather,” she said in a statement.
Southwest Airlines has cut around two-thirds of flights scheduled "for the next several days." The airline canceled 2,694 flights on Tuesday. The Dallas-based airline canceled 71% of its schedule – or 2,909 flights – on Monday, according to FlightAware. TWU Local 556, which represents Southwest flight attendants, blamed the meltdown partly on the airline's failure to modernize operations. ET on Wednesday, Southwest had canceled 62% of its schedule for that day, or 2,506 flights, per FlightAware data.
United Airlines said five people were taken to the hospital after "severe turbulence" on a flight. It told Insider two passengers and three crew were brought to the hospital with minor injuries. The flight was travelling from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to Houston, Texas. "United flight 128 encountered unexpected turbulence while enroute to Houston," a statement from the airline said. Multiple people were also injured on a Hawaiian Airlines flight 35 on Sunday from Phoenix, Arizona to Honolulu, Hawaii.
The 50th anniversary of the last Apollo astronaut moonwalk is Wednesday. NASA astronauts say it's taking so long to return to the moon because of politics and money. But NASA built Orion to send astronauts back into lunar orbit and, as early as 2025, link up with SpaceX's Starship to land astronauts on the moon. Elon Musk claimed Twitter was "the biggest click driver on the internet by far" in a tweet Saturday. In a tweet on Saturday, the new owner of Twitter suggested the platform was the biggest source of referrals to other websites. Biggest click driver on the Internet by far," Musk replied. In terms of all websites, Twitter ranked ninth for traffic, just above adult website Pornhub. Musk is looking for ways to make Twitter profitable after saying last week the company was losing $4 million a day.
Two Twitter accounts pretended to be insulin-producing pharma firm Eli Lilly and Company. Another account mimicked the real Eli Lilly's apology, then claimed insulin prices would rise. Both accounts pretended to be Eli Lilly and Company, who introduced the world's first commercially available insulin product – a necessity for people with diabetes. TwitterThe real company then apologized for the "misleading message from a fake Lilly account" and added that users should only trust the "LillyPad" account. Eli Lilly told Insider it was "in conversations with Twitter
Twitter's new verification system is already being abused by trolls impersonating public figures. Neither Bush nor Blair have personal Twitter accounts, but are verified through their foundations. Other examples of fake but verified accounts causing trouble soon after the new verification system came in included a user pretending to be O.J. "I'm ngl I did that shit," the verified account "ThaReal0J32" tweeted, attracting over 55,000 likes before it was deleted. The fake Bush account also responded to tweets about fake verified accounts saying: "Jed [Bush's younger brother] is smarter than Elon."
Since Elon Musk took over, Twitter has rolled out "verification" for accounts with Twitter Blue. The Twitter Blue check mark has no identity verification, letting users impersonate famous people. It took me 25 minutes to set up a "verified" Twitter account under the name of a Youtuber with more than 1.3 million subscribers. Through a fake Apple ID, a VPN, a disposable email, and a masked debit card, I used Twitter's new Twitter Blue program to launch the account. Thanks to Elon Musk, Twitter's blue check mark can now be boughtWith Musk's takeover of Twitter, the website's Twitter Blue program is billed as a premium subscription service that goes for $8 per month.
CNN —On the surface, the case of Kanye West seems pretty cut and dry. But the million-dollar question is why this didn’t happen a long time ago, given West’s history of making anti-Black statements. Journalist Ernest Owens recently tweeted, “FACT: Before Kanye West was ‘the face of Anti-Semitism,’ he was one of the hip-hop faces of misogynoir, anti-Blackness, Trumpism, and slavery-denial.”FACT: Before Kanye West was "the face of Anti-Semitism," he was one of the hip-hop faces of misogynoir, anti-Blackness, Trumpism, and slavery-denial. “Shame.”Author and Washington Post Magazine contributing writer Damon Young told CNN the situation is a more nuanced discussion than it sometimes appears to be on social media. “The reason we never really completely shut Kanye down is because we are hanging on to this essence of what he used to be,” Baptist told CNN.

Mamadi Doumbouya for The New York Times Talk Bono Is Still Trying to Figure Out U2 and HimselfThere are different Bonos to different people, including the man himself. You say, “But you’re U2 — you don’t need that.” What’s interesting is that we want that. But I also wrote the book to try to figure out what was going on with U2. They sound like U2 songs. Do they sound like U2 songs?
Now, amid the recent controversies surrounding the rapper, this college professor sees value in launching another course on Ye. He taught his first two Ye-inspired courses, titled The Politics of Kanye West: Black Genius and Sonic Aesthetics, at Washington University in St. Louis starting in 2017. But unlike his previous ones, this class will be divided into three parts, “the old Kanye, the new Kanye, and the who Kanye,” and examine Ye’s recent behavior. “The course has never, ever been about Kanye,” McCune said. If the University of Rochester’s college curriculum committee approves the new Ye course, he plans to teach it during the spring or fall semester of 2023.
A police officer in Carrollton, Texas, about 20 miles north of Dallas, died Tuesday night after he was hit by a passing car while aiding another officer in a driving while intoxicated investigation. The Carrolton Police Department announced early Wednesday, “We lost a beloved officer in the line of duty overnight." The officer, who was not identified, was “backing up” another officer on a DWI investigation in the westbound lanes of the President George Bush Turnpike “when he was hit by a passing driver,” just before 10:30 p.m., police said. The driver of the passing vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer was transported to a hospital where he was also pronounced dead, police said.
CNN Business spoke to Jon Hirtle, a broker at Goldman Sachs in 1987, to get his recollections about Black Monday. That’s led some Wall Street veterans to derisively refer to the NYSE as nothing more than a glorified TV studio. Goldman Sachs announced Tuesday that it is merging its trading and investment banking businesses into a single unit. CEO David Solomon said that the move is a “realignment” that will allow Goldman Sachs to better serve its customers. There are growing concerns on Wall Street (and Main Street) about an economic downturn.

I no longer miss the “old” Kanye West, now known as Ye. I’m tired of hearing about the new Ye, and I wish we could stop talking about him altogether. Days before that, he appeared with far-right pundit Candace Owens flaunting “White Lives Matter” T-shirts during Paris Fashion Week. This includes to stopping asking for the “old Kanye” back. Chop up the soul Kanye, set on his goals Kanye.” At first, I sang the lyrics with hope that the “old Kanye” who once had such a hopeful swagger would return, that he would get past his ego and be born again as the creative powerhouse whose every move we followed with anticipation instead of dread.
NASA is about to launch its new Space Launch System toward the moon for the first time. The rocket is designed to return astronauts to the lunar surface for the first time in more than 50 years.
