After raucous debates in Wisconsin and California, the candidates are set to return to the debate stage for a two-hour event at 8 p.m. The smaller field, paired with recent shakeup among the top challengers to Trump, is expected to produce new dynamics on stage. With that pledge, which has been somewhat controversial among the candidates, GOP presidential hopefuls must sign a statement that they will support the eventual Republican nominee. COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The field of candidates onstage for the third Republican presidential debate will be the smallest yet. Five hopefuls will participate in Wednesday night’s debate at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County, according to the Republican National Committee. After the second debate in September, Ramaswamy asked the RNC to change its rules for the third, requesting that participation be limited to four candidates, with a unique donor requirement of 100,000. The former two-term Arkansas governor participated in the first debate but failed to qualify for the second. He said in a statement after missing out on the second debate that his goal was to increase his polling numbers to 4% in an early state before Thanksgiving.

Nov 3 (Reuters) - Republican presidential primary candidates will need to meet relatively stringent polling requirements to participate in the fourth debate in December, the Republican National Committee said on Friday, which could result in a winnowing of the field. The debate is set to take place in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on Dec. 6, according to a person with direct knowledge of the matter. Those are crucial states in the nominating process, as they are the first four to select their preferred nominee. Traditionally, candidates that fail to make a debate stage lose the attention of the media, voters and donors. The third Republican debate, which has a similarly structured polling threshold of 4%, will take place on Wednesday in Miami.

After a raucous first debate in Milwaukie last month, the candidates are set to return to the debate stage for a two-hour event at 9 p.m. To qualify for the second debate, a candidate must poll at least 3% in two national polls or 3% in one national poll and one poll from an early state poll in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada or South Carolina, according to rules set by the Republican National Committee. In addition to the polling and fundraising requirements, the candidates must also have taken a loyalty pledge in order to participate in the debate, which all eight candidates who participated in the first debate completed.
