Here are a few things Sister Aloysius cannot abide: ballpoint pens, “Frosty the Snowman,” long fingernails like Father Flynn’s, Father Flynn himself. She is what you’d call a forbidding nun, a Sister of Charity without much of it. Add to Sister Aloysius’s catalog of unholy tendencies his suggestion that they occasionally take the students for ice cream. But John Patrick Shanley’s “Doubt: A Parable,” first seen on Broadway in 2005, is much more than that. It is a sturdy melodrama, an infallible crowd-pleaser, a detective yarn, a character study and an inquest into the unknowable.

Gavin Newsom said he's raising pay at his Panera Bread locations after it was widely reported that they'd be exempt from a new state law boosting the minimum wage. Greg Flynn, the franchise owner of 24 Panera Breads in the state, announced on Tuesday that he would raise the minimum wage at his locations from $16 to $20. This story is available exclusively to Business Insider subscribers. Newsom and Flynn have known each other for years, and Flynn has been a longtime donor to Newsom's campaign, Business Insider previously reported. That connection brought Newsom under fire last week because the state's new law appeared to have a potential, specific exception for Panera Bread.

Los Angeles CNN —A Panera Bread franchise owner in California said he will raise the minimum wage for his employees after accusations he benefited from ties to the state’s governor to avoid hiking pay. A new state minimum wage law exempts certain businesses that make and sell bread – a carveout that critics contended benefited Greg Flynn, a billionaire Panera franchise owner who attended high school with Democratic California Gov. On Tuesday, Flynn told CNN that he has decided to raise the minimum pre-tip wage at all of his Panera Bread locations to $20 per hour, regardless of whether his fast-casual bakeries are exempt from the new minimum wage law or not. “At Flynn Group, we are in the people business and believe our people are our most valuable assets,” Flynn said. However, Flynn said he never personally met with Newsom about the minimum wage bill, though he did meet with Newsom’s staff and a group of other restaurant owners to discuss it.

Computer science is not a new major at top schools, but with AI jobs in high-demand, there's a growing list of colleges and universities offering a four-year "AI" degree specifically. These programs generally move beyond the foundations of computer science to home in on topics such as machine learning, computing algorithms, data analytics and advanced robotics. Purdue University offers an AI undergraduate major, while many colleges and universities offer AI classes within their computer science department, even if there's not a dedicated major. The rise of AI-specific degree programs comes as companies are short on talent for this fast-developing field. According to the Georgetown University Center for Security and Emerging Technology, AI degrees have bucked the general trend in education since 2011, with positive degree conferral growth versus negative growth across all degree areas.

The US Army's new JPMRC training rotation in Alaska prepares soldiers to fight in frigid conditions. Many skills related to Arctic combat had atrophied, generals said. On the flip side, JPMRC also does an annual rotation in Hawaii, training soldiers to fight in the wet, humid jungle. US Army Alaska officially became the 11th Airborne Division, a newly reactivated unit, with the focus on Pacific and Arctic combat. The general told reporters US Army Alaska had "sort of lost the Arctic ethos" because of its focus on counterinsurgency in the Middle East.

Nevertheless, on Thursday, Republican lawmakers in California called on the state’s attorney general to investigate the minimum wage exemption. Flynn, in a conversation with Bloomberg, denied having a hand in the bread exemption. But amid the horrors are lessons, two US Army generals recently told Business Insider during an interview at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks, Alaska. Drones continue to be a dominant element of the war in Ukraine as both Ukraine and Russia ramp up production and development. Before drone warfare became as widespread and prevalent as it is in Ukraine today, troops had smaller ranges to worry about. And the range at which troops need to be able to suppress munitions and long-range capabilities has changed as well. Joshua KleinholzThe use of electronic warfare and sophisticated air defenses in Ukraine, too, has the Army rethinking what future wars could look like.

Despite the market's lack of direction this week, investors nonetheless poured into some specific stocks, pushing them into overbought territory. There have been just a handful of moments over the centuries when we have experienced a huge shift in the skills our economy values most. Technical and data skills that have been highly sought after for decades appear to be among the most exposed to advances in artificial intelligence. But other skills, particularly the people skills that we have long undervalued as “soft,” will very likely remain the most durable. In today’s knowledge economy, many students are focused on gaining technical skills because those skills are seen as the most competitive when it comes to getting a good job. For decades, we have viewed those jobs as “future-proof” given the growth of technology companies and the fact that engineering majors land the highest-paying jobs.
