"The threat of, and actual, violence resulting from heated political rhetoric is well-documented," Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron wrote in a fiery court order Friday afternoon. Trump has violated that gag order twice since the trial began last month. They have been "falsely accusing her of bias against them and of improperly influencing the ongoing bench trial," Engoron wrote. Violating the gag order "shall result in serious sanctions," he added. He has fined Trump a total of $15,000 for twice violating the gag order that was imposed early in the case.

Ivanka Trump asked a New York appeals court to pause the $250 million fraud trial of her family and its business empire as she appeals a judge's order requiring her to testify in the case next week. New York Attorney General Letitia James urged the appeals court to reject that request, calling it a "drastic" and baseless move that "would upend an ongoing trial." Ivanka Trump was originally listed as a co-defendant as well, but she was removed earlier this year on statute of limitations grounds by a New York appeals court earlier. In Thursday's filing to the appeals court, Ivanka's attorney argued that she is "beyond the jurisdiction" of Engoron's court and that the judge made "multiple errors" when he declined to quash subpoenas for her testimony. Ivanka Trump "has firsthand knowledge of issues that are central to the ongoing trial," James wrote.

Ivanka Trump has been dismissed from the case, and lawyers for her family and its business contend that she shouldn't have to take the stand. It's unclear how soon Judge Arthur Engoron will decide, or when Ivanka Trump would testify if ordered to do so. Ivanka Trump's lawyer argued in court papers that it's unreasonable to make her take the stand. Ivanka Trump announced in January 2017, ahead of her father's inauguration, that she was stepping away from her Trump Organization job.
