If this sounds familiar, it's because in 2017, a 70-mile-wide band of the US saw a total solar eclipse, while many other areas saw a partial eclipse. A woman has alleged that New York Knicks owner James Dolan sexually assaulted her a decade ago and then set her up to be molested by now-imprisoned film producer Harvey Weinstein, according to a federal lawsuit filed Tuesday in Los Angeles. When the tour traveled to Los Angeles, Dolan flew Croft there even though almost no tour members signed up for massage appointments, the lawsuit states. When she told Dolan of the alleged attack, he neither seemed surprised nor offered to help her report the assault to police, she alleges. Croft alleges that Dolan knew about Weinstein's misconduct toward women and told her "we all know" that Weinstein "has problems." Weinstein is currently serving a 23-year sentence for a rape and sexual assault conviction in New York that is under appeal.

"James Dolan manipulated me, brought me to California to abuse me, and then set me up for a vicious attack by Weinstein," Croft said. "Towards the end of the massage, Dolan pulled Ms. Croft towards him. "On each of these occasions, Dolan made unwelcome advances toward Ms. Croft, and she felt obligated to submit to sex with him." Croft told Dolan that she met Weinstein and that he was "sexually aggressive" with her, and Dolan did not "express any surprise at the news," the lawsuit says. Perry continued: "Mr. Dolan always believed Ms. Croft to be a good person and is surprised she would agree to these claims.

But another is that our universe is a computer simulation, with someone (perhaps an advanced alien species) fine-tuning the conditions. Scientists have obtained the first ever proof that black holes can lose energy. They've long believed that magnetic fields could suck energy out of black holes but didn't have proof — until now. The M87 supermassive black hole is emitting energy like "million-light-year-long Jedi lightsabers," the co-author of a new study said. Butler, a Democratic insider and former labor leader, had never held public office before joining the Senate. Under California election rules, the two candidates who receive the most votes advance to the November general election, regardless of party. But to Democratic consultant Garry South, who has run six statewide campaigns in California, including for former Gov. Then, on the campaign side, Butler could talk about Democratic legislative wins and building on Feinstein’s legacy. National Democratic fundraising could pose a challenge in 2024, since the California Senate seat is expected to stay in Democratic hands when control of the chamber will be decided elsewhere.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Former baseball MVP Steve Garvey joined the race Tuesday to succeed the late California Sen. Dianne Feinstein, giving Republicans a splash of star quality on the ballot in a heavily Democratic state where the GOP hasn’t won a Senate race in 35 years. He did not answer directly when asked if he considered himself part of the Trump wing of the GOP. In California's last two Senate races, GOP candidates performed so poorly that only Democrats appeared on the November ballot. The last Republican to win a Senate race in the state was in 1988. Garvey confirmed in June that he was considering entering the Senate race, and his candidacy was widely expected.

Gavin Newsom has chosen Laphonza Butler, the president of EMILY's List, to fill the seat of the late Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the governor's office confirmed to NBC News. Feinstein, the longest-serving woman in the Senate, died Thursday at the age of 90. Newsom, a Democrat, had provided substantial clues in recent months about how he'd choose Feinstein's replacement, if her seat were to become vacant. He had previously said that he would appoint a Black woman if either of California's Senate seats opened up. Butler, however, will not have any constraints on her future plans and will be free to run for the seat if she chooses.
