That was up from a loss of €228 million ($248 million) in the same period last year. The company has 226 million subscribers in total.

Janet Yellen says predictability is the foundation of the Treasury Department’s borrowing strategy. Photo: Drew Angerer/Getty ImagesSwelling deficits and weak investor appetite for long-term U.S. debt are pushing the Treasury Department to get more creative with how it borrows. The Treasury has long embraced the mantra of “regular and predictable” debt sales to avoid creating market volatility as it finances the U.S. deficit. Recently, though, high interest rates have driven investors to eschew longer-term Treasurys. The government has had to adapt, cutting back this month on expected increases in long-term bonds and favoring more short-term debt.

The plan was presented a week before federal agencies risk shutting down when current funding runs out. Photo: Drew Angerer/Getty ImagesWASHINGTON—House Speaker Mike Johnson (R., La.) unveiled a two-step short-term spending proposal that would keep money flowing to federal agencies into early next year, in a bid to stave off a partial government shutdown later this week. Johnson presented the plan on Saturday, a week before federal agencies risk shutting down once current funding runs out. The measure wouldn’t impose spending cuts, and it also wouldn’t implement tougher anti-immigration rules at the U.S.-Mexico border, which some Republicans had said was critical to get their support.

Rep. Mike Johnson's ascent to the House speakership last week took most in the GOP by surprise. He's now the first House speaker from the South since Newt Gingrich held the gavel in the 1990s. "This happened sort of suddenly," the Louisiana Republican said last Wednesday after succeeding Rep. Kevin McCarthy of California as speaker and as the new leader of the House GOP conference. Rep. Mike Johnson takes the oath of office to become the next House speaker on October 25, 2023. When we account for how few poor students take the test, by looking at all students, a new and greater disparity emerges. It’s a reflection of an inequality in American education that starts long before high school. New SAT Data Highlights the Deep Inequality at the Heart of American EducationNew data shows, for the first time at this level of detail, how much students’ standardized test scores rise with their parents' incomes — and how disparities start years before students sit for tests. And in the last five decades, as the country has become more unequal by income, the gap in children’s academic achievement, as measured by test scores throughout schooling, has widened. Parenting in places with less income inequality and more public investment in families is more playful and relaxed, research shows.

Many factors led to the shift, from significant layoffs in Big Tech to in-office mandates and financial pressure due to high interest rates. But it feels like tech workers themselves will end up having to do a bit of recalibration. Working in Big Tech has become a job like any other corporate gig.
