Bottom line The main part of our AMD thesis — fast-growing sales of its MI300 AI chips — is still on track, so we view the post-earnings pullback as a buying opportunity. Given how integral these AI chips are to AMD's growth, we were pleased management on Tuesday night raised its full-year sales projections to exceeding $5 billion. Another factor: AMD's chips passed some performance milestones with customers, Su said. We believe Su's AI roadmap — outlined at its AI event earlier this month — will lead to significant sales growth in 2025 and thereafter. Quarterly commentary Sales in AMD's all-important data-center segment came in $3.55 billion, exceeding estimates and more than doubling year over year.

The yen touched a three-month low on Monday as Japan's ruling coalition lost its parliamentary majority and investors figured that would likely slow future interest rate hikes, while the dollar headed for a monthly gain on rising U.S. yields. On the dollar, the yen hit its weakest since late July at 153.3 in early-morning trade and it touched the same milestone at 165.36 to the euro . That was down from the 279 seats they held previously and marked the coalition's worst result since it briefly lost power in 2009. The U.S. dollar index has climbed 3.6% during October, its sharpest monthly rise since April 2022. The New Zealand dollar traded near a three-month low of $0.5974, down nearly 6% for the month.

The slump comes as investors price in higher odds of a Trump win in the upcoming US election. Emerging market stocks are headed for their worst monthly decline since January, with the MSCI Emerging Markets Index falling for a fourth day on Thursday for a 3.1% decline this month. A select few EM stocks have taken the biggest hits, with Samsung, Alibaba, Tencent, and Meituan accounting for more than half of the index's fall. "There has been a significant change in investor sentiment, and investors' risk budgets have likely been changing as a function of that." Investors are also expressing disappointment in China's stimulus measures, which initially fueled a rally in EM stocks last month.

S & P 500 money is oblivious to stock valuations of any kind and ignorant to upgrades and downgrades. The Lilliputian sellers regularly fail to do damage when matched with the oblivious index money. A 4% 2-year note isn't competitive to the magnet of the S & P 500 and its kin. That's emblematic of what happens with a big buyback without stock-based compensation (something many tech firms use that renders moot the S & P 500 inflows). Because of the way that the S & P 500 money is divvied up, the share base becomes overwhelmingly index-fund based and the index fund shareholders do not sell.

An ASML icon is being displayed on a circuit board, alongside the flags of the USA and China, in this photo illustration taken in Brussels, Belgium, on January 4, 2024. ASML on Tuesday offered the first glimpse into how U.S. restrictions on exports of its advanced chip manufacturing tools to China will impact its sales in the Asian country. The Netherlands-based chip equipment maker said in its earnings report Tuesday, which was released a day early due to a "technical error," that it expects net sales for 2025 to come in between 30 billion euros and 35 billion euros ($32.7 billion and $38.1 billion). ASML is a critical part of the global chip supply chain. While third-quarter net sales at the firm reached 7.5 billion euros — beating expectations — net bookings came in at 2.6 billion euros ($2.83 billion), the company said.

Beijing's lack of concrete economic stimulus actions poured cold water on U.S. investors who went big on the China trade, and strategists on Wall Street are warning of disappointment ahead. Elon Musk’s empire of misinformation

New York CNN —At any Tesla event, you have to go in expecting a good amount of smoke and mirrors. ICYMI: The robotaxis, Tesla’s fully driverless vehicles that it hopes to put into service next year, were the main event.
