For those still stuck between one or more of the three for a particular economy flight, here's my best advice on how to choose. United's upgraded cabin is just as nice as Delta's, and I'd argue it's actually better with the Bluetooth option. But you'll want to pay up for at least regular economy to get a carry-on for domestic flights. While I've had my issues with American in the past, the airline has fully grown on me. If you're like me, who watches content on a personal device, I'd say that's a win-win.

Chesnot | Getty ImagesFor more than 10,000 Olympic athletes, making it to Paris this summer is a dream come true. "Unless you're going to the Olympics, people aren't going to Paris ... very few are," Bastian told CNBC. Delta has the most service of any U.S. airline to Paris and holds a joint venture with Air France. On July 1, Air France-KLM, the parent of Air France, forecast a revenue hit of as much as 180 million euros ($195.5 million) in June through August because of the Olympic Games. Delta Air Lines pulled some meal options from dozens of international flights on Wednesday hours after the carrier said reports of "spoiled" food on an Amsterdam-bound flight forced the plane to divert to New York. Delta was only serving pasta in the main cabin on about 75 international flights on Wednesday. Delta apologized to customers over the report of spoiled food in the main cabin on the Detroit-to-Amsterdam flight. "This is not the service Delta is known for and we sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and delay in their travels," Delta said. The incident occurred in the midst of the peak summer travel season, when Delta and its rivals are fighting over travelers.

Travel experts told Business Insider they had noticed an uptick in clients opting for luxury air travel experiences, from private jets to first-class and premium-class plane tickets. Oliver Bell, cofounder of luxury travel company Oliver's Travels, said this trend could be partly attributed to "revenge travel," where people are "willing to spend more for incredible experiences" in the aftermath of the pandemic. AdvertisementBut you don't have to be flushed with cash to experience luxury air travel. "A lot of people assume that flying private is only for the rich and famous, the Elon Musk's of the world," Bell said. For example, Surf Air is an LA-based private jet company that offers unlimited private flying memberships for $295 per month or $3,540 annually.

Rival United Airlines — second to Delta in net profit margins — is circling. Delta plans to open Delta One lounges in Boston and Los Angeles later this year, and is studying airports where it could open others. Like other airlines, Delta accepted billions in federal aid to weather the pandemic. Luxury air travel and the United States didn't go together for many years — and might not still, if you ask well-heeled globetrotters. And at Delta and other airlines, many of the perks for luxury flyers come through lounges.

Further, the carry-on bag restrictions vary slightly at 24 x 16 x 10 inches and 22 x 18 x 10 inches, respectively. The seatbelt light. Pete Syme/Business InsiderKeep your seatbelt onSpeaking of unbuckling seat belts, 47% of respondents said it is acceptable to do so when the seatbelt light is switched off. AdvertisementI think there's a fundamental disconnect between what switching off the seatbelt light means to the flying public and what it actually means. Switching off the light means passengers may now safely get up to use the lavatory or retrieve something from the overhead compartment. Even though aircraft are vacuumed in fairly frequent intervals, their carpets see a lot of passengers between more thorough cleanings.

AdvertisementPlus, I'm not convinced that Frontier and Spirit's recent addition of "premium" perks will give either a competitive edge. ULCCs are not always cheaper once you do the mathIn my experience, mainline tickets are sometimes cheaper than Frontier or Spirit. Spirit has dropped all change and cancel fees, and Frontier is adding business-class-like seats to lure in more premium travelers.

Delta Air Lines said Monday that it will bring its premium economy service to transcontinental flights in September, its latest attempt to boost sales of higher-priced tickets to customers willing to splurge for more space and perks. Premium economy is a relatively new class of service that major airlines offer on longer, mostly international flights. Delta customers who purchase standard economy tickets will be able to pay for upgrades to premium economy on the transcontinental flights. The seats were sold as extra legroom tickets, which are a rung below premium economy. Some American Airlines ' shorter domestic flights operate a similar model, featuring lie-flat seats but not the Flagship service offered on international flights.

"One woman wanted to rent my office to work," remembers Lisa Slocum, the airport Fifth Third Bank branch manager. Capital One closed its branch at Washington, D.C.'s Dulles International Airport in 2020, instead creating "airport lounges" for cardholders in Dulles, along with similar spots at airports in Denver and Dallas. Yet full-service airport bank branches are a relative rarity, surprising in a retail landscape that often resembles an upscale mall more than a terminal. Fifth Third BankWells Fargo operates a full-service branch in Las Vegas's Harry Reid International Airport, and according to a bank spokeswomen, has a multi-year relationship with the airport that involves both the branch and multiple ATMs throughout terminals. McAdam says ATMs and advanced-function kiosks are one thing, but a full-service branch, except maybe in the largest markets, is overkill.
