Chipotle said it plans to keep 53 college-town stores open until midnight on Halloween. The chain said it is targeting college towns popular with Gen Z, a group that likes to eat late. But instead of going national with its late-night business, Chipotle is targeting "college towns that eat the most Chipotle," the chain announced Wednesday. The fresh-Mex chain, which has more than 3,250 restaurants, said 53 college towns will stay open until midnight on Halloween – a busy night for the brand. "Over the past two years, Chipotle has seen a 30 percent increase in transactions after 8 p.m. on Halloween and 81 percent of 18- to 26-year-olds surveyed reported wanting to see Chipotle open until midnight," the chain said.

CNN —Guatemalan President-elect Bernardo Arévalo de León has announced he is temporarily suspending the presidential transition process after Public Ministry agents raided electoral facilities and opened voting boxes. The president-elect denounced the raids, during which Public Ministry agents opened ballot boxes and photographed their contents, according to the Supreme Electoral Tribunal. The Public Ministry is investigating allegations that Movimiento Semilla – Arévalo’s Party – used forged signatures when it was seeking authorization as a political party. Giammattei said the presidency is willing to resume the transition process and described Arévalo’s decision to suspend it as “unilateral.”The Supreme Electoral Tribunal of Guatemala (TSE) held its own press conference to denounce the latest actions of the Public Ministry. Irma Palencia, the TSE’s president, said those actions had put the Guatemalan electoral system and democracy “at risk” and had violated the “civic rights of citizens expressed at the polls.”

MEXICO CITY (AP) — A Mexican Supreme Court ruling that invalidated all federal criminal penalties for abortion continued a regional trend of widening access to the procedure, but left in place a patchwork of varying state restrictions. Political Cartoons on World Leaders View All 226 ImagesPolitical Cartoons View All 1146 ImagesSome 20 Mexican states, however, still criminalize abortion. Those laws were not affected by the Supreme Court ruling, but abortion rights advocates will likely ask state judges to follow its logic. Abortion-rights activists will have to continue seeking legalization state by state, though Wednesday's decision should make that easier. Some American women were already seeking help from Mexican abortion rights activists to obtain pills used to end pregnancies.

Flexport CEO Dave Clark is resigning from the supply chain software startup and handing the reins over to founder and executive chair Ryan Petersen after one year in the role — and after just six months of helming the company solo. As such, I will be resigning from my position at Flexport." Clark and Petersen had been co-CEOs of Flexport beginning last September, and Clark took over as the company's sole CEO in March. Flexport announced last June that Petersen would step down in March 2023 as CEO and turn the position over to Clark, while transitioning into the role of executive chair. In July, Flexport said Petersen would join Founders Fund, the venture capital fund founded by billionaire Peter Thiel.

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico’s Supreme Court threw out all federal criminal penalties for abortion Wednesday, ruling that national laws prohibiting the procedure are unconstitutional and violate women’s rights in a sweeping decision that extended Latin American’s trend of widening abortion access. Some 20 Mexican states, however, still criminalize abortion. After 40 years, the Supreme Court reversed its abortion decision, and we’re not going to stop until Mexico guarantees the right to life from the moment of conception." Some American women were already seeking help from Mexican abortion rights activists to obtain pills used to end pregnancies. Her state decriminalized abortion last year, but there are 22 open investigations against women accused of ending their pregnancies.

Beck priced his trove at $25,000 to $30,000. He said he thinks he could earn more by selling each item individually, but couldn’t face that process. “Boxing it up and watching it dwindle, it would kill me,” he said. “I genuinely don’t believe that I could handle that emotionally.”

What Aya de León Looks For in a Good Thriller

“The God of Good Looks,” by Breanne Mc Ivor. I really wish more authors would write popular fiction about the climate crisis, set in the here and now. Most of what gets called “climate fiction” falls into the category of science fiction/fantasy. Where are the popular books to accompany the building of a popular movement? In my early 20s, a dusty used paperback changed the way I saw spy fiction.

CNN and the GVA define a mass shooting as a shooting that injures or kills four or more people, not including the shooter. They argue that more firearms and higher gun ownership increases public safety – a stance that continues to be at odds with gun violence experts and data. The area around the Robb Elementary School signs has become a memorial dedicated to the victims of the May 24 mass shooting. Mass shootings are just a piece of that, and the strategies that we’re laying out will impact mass shootings. They’ll also impact a lot of other types of gun violence and that’s absolutely critical to saving lives,” Horwitz said.

NASA has been using the current spacesuits on the International Space Station for decades and they are showing their age. "The spacesuits that are being used now in the International Space Station by NASA are suits that were really designed in the '70s. Now the agency is turning to two commercial companies: Axiom Space and Collins Aerospace, a subsidiary of Raytheon Technologies , to build and maintain its new generation of spacesuits. Under the Exploration Extravehicular Activity Services Contract, or xEVAS, NASA is providing Collins and Axiom, along with a number of their industry partners, with up to $3.5 billion through 2034. NASA hopes to use this new suit on the International Space Station by 2026.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein raised less than $600 at the end of 2022, according to new campaign filings. Feinstein, who is the longest-serving Democratic senator and would be 91 on election day in 2024, has declined to say whether she will seek re-election next year. But altogether, her campaign — conspicuously named "Feinstein for Senate 2024" — reported having just $9,968.56 in cash on hand. For comparison, Feinstein raised over $16 million for her 2018 race against fellow Democrat Kevin De Leon. Last year, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer publicly declined to say whether he was confident in the California Democrat's ability to serve.
Stripe, the fintech company once valued at $95 billion by private market investors, will make a decision on its plans to go public within the next year, CNBC has confirmed. Co-founders and brothers John and Patrick Collison told employees on Thursday that they will set a goal of taking the company public or letting staffers sell shares through a secondary offering, The Information first reported. The tech IPO market has been frozen since late 2021 after two record-breaking years during the Covid pandemic. In July, Stripe cut its internal valuation by 28%, from $95 billion to $74 billion. Stripe is considering a direct listing or private market transaction and has hired Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan to advise on the deal, CNBC has learned.
