At VidCon, the annual conference for creators, industry professionals, and fans, YouTube Shopping made a splash. Michael Martin, YouTube Shopping general manager, and Bridget Dolan, managing director of YouTube Shopping partnerships, each spoke about the platform's new affiliate program. In 2021, YouTube began quietly testing shopping tools like product pins with a small group of creators. The feature looks similar to the in-app shopping tools on TikTok, with a "view products" button on the lower half of the video. Instagram, on the other hand, ended its native affiliate program in July 2022, and cut back on some features, like live shopping.

CNN —Results are in from the highly anticipated clinical trial on the Mediterranean-DASH Diet Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay or MIND diet — a diet designed specifically to boost the brain — and they are less stellar than anticipated. Actually, the MIND diet did improve the brains of those who followed it for three years. Past studies have shown both the MIND diet and the Mediterranean diet significantly reduced the risk of cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s disease. The MIND diet also assimilates elements of the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (or DASH) diet. The DASH diet has been shown to reduce blood pressure and is the American Heart Association’s top diet.

From Hewlett-Packard to Google, the tales of bootstrapped companies that have turned into giants has inspired generations of entrepreneurs. In 2019, Aiden Gomez and Nick Frosst left Google to create an A.I. Several months later, they went back to Google and asked if it would sell them the enormous computing power they would need to build their own A.I. The big companies like Google, Microsoft and Amazon, he added, are controlling the chips. “They’re controlling the computing power,” he said.

Two resort-and-gambling stocks are less attractive now that the market has better priced in a popular gambling destination's recovery, according to Jefferies. Katz shaved Las Vegas Sands' price target by $4 to $65, still representing an 11.1% upside from where the stock closed Wednesday. Jefferies says although electronic gaming machines supplier PlayAGS has fallen to deep "out-of-favor status," the "severely undervalued small-cap stock" is nevertheless a prime opportunity for investors. The firm upgraded PlayAGS shares to buy from hold, and raised its price target to $10, implying 89% upside from Friday's close. Katz noted that PlayAGS's first-quarter earnings and revenue topped Jefferies' estimates. The company posted revenue of $83 million, higher than Jefferies' $75 million, and adjusted earnings before taxes, depreciation and amortization of $37 million that topped the firm's $33 million estimate. After surging 13% Monday on the upgrade, PlayAGS shares are now ahead by almost 18% year-to-date, after sliding 25% in 2022.
A research team in Hangzhou, China, found that frequent consumption of fried foods, especially fried potatoes, was linked with a 12% higher risk of anxiety and 7% higher risk of depression than in people who didn’t eat fried foods. These results “open an avenue in the significance of reducing fried food consumption for mental health,” according to the paper published Monday in the journal PNAS. Frequent consumption of fried foods was linked to higher risk of anxiety and depression. Dr. Walter Willett said the results “should be regarded as very preliminary, especially the connection with fried food and acrylamide.”“The health effects of fried food will depend greatly on what food is fried and what type of fat is used for frying,” said Willett, professor of epidemiology and nutrition at Harvard T.H. It's also possible that some people with mental health issues reach for fried food.
"All the plastic we've ever produced since the inception of the material is still here," said David Katz, CEO of Plastic Bank, a company that's trying to implement plastic recycling systems in developing nations. It's usually because it's not economically feasible to collect, clean and sort plastic waste — at least not in the U.S., where new plastic is cheaper. Asis Wijayanto and his wife Atmawati support themselves and their daughter by collecting plastic with Plastic Bank. Plastic creditsBut only about 20% of Plastic Bank's partners are actually buying recycled plastic for use in new products. The other 80% are buying plastic credits, meant to help offset their new plastic production by funding recycling efforts in the countries where Plastic Bank operates.
