Investors should be cautious on Starbucks stock, according to TD Cowen. Starbucks stock has slipped more than 2% from the start of the year and was off 1.45% in premarket trading Tuesday. SBUX YTD mountain Starbucks stock has pulled back 2.4% from the start of 2023. Charles also noted U.S. headwinds associated with slower month-over-month non-farm payroll increases, which could be reflected in Starbucks' morning business. "Starbucks' morning-oriented business tracks changes in payrolls as changes in the number of commuters naturally impacts morning routines," Charles said.

All three indexes ended the session lower in a broad sell-off ahead of the Fed's interest rate announcement on Wednesday, which is expected to culminate in a decision to leave key interest rates unchanged. The Fed is also due to release its Summary Economic Projections, including its dot plot, which should provide a glimpse into the Federal Open Markets Committee's forecast trajectory of interest rates, inflation and economic growth. On the economic front, a jump in Canada's annual inflation rate due to rising gasoline prices, and a bigger-than-expected plunge in U.S. housing starts helped feed investor uncertainty. Traders work on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in New York City, U.S., August 29, 2023. Starbucks (SBUX.O) lost ground following TD Cowen's decision to downgrade the coffee chain's shares to "underperform."

An Amgen sign is seen at the company's office in South San Francisco, California October 21, 2013. With Horizon, Amgen acquires drugs that won't be affected by new U.S. negotiation requirements for blockbuster medications as well as possible tax advantages stemming from Horizon's headquarters in Ireland. Analysts said the Horizon deal could also help Amgen's tax situation. The United States has largely eliminated once-lucrative corporate tax benefits for pharmaceutical manufacturing operations in Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory. Horizon offers Amgen "potentially a better tax jurisdiction related to Irish manufacturing plants ... Amgen has a new manufacturing process they could potentially move there," Cowen's Werber said.
