The slogan reflects the geography of that original claim: Israel spans the narrow stretch of land between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea. Gaza’s health ministry, which is run by Hamas, says that more than 10,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes since. “It is an antisemitic charge denying the Jewish right to self-determination, including through the removal of Jews from their ancestral homeland,” according to the Anti-Defamation League. Does it preclude the fact that the Jewish population in the area between the sea and the river cannot also be free? Likud has since dropped the phrase, though the party has opposed a two-state solution in which Palestinians would have a recognized state alongside Israel.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — The first sign of discontent regarding Craig Counsell’s decision to leave the Milwaukee Brewers to manage the Chicago Cubs appeared in his hometown at the Little League field that bears his name. The sign was covered up Tuesday morning, one day after the Cubs landed Counsell with a five-year deal worth over $40 million. “I give Craig credit for helping to build that, and for adding all these coaches, all of whom have stayed. Counsell told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Tuesday the opportunity for a new professional challenge and the proximity of Chicago made this opportunity appealing. The White House cautioned Israel on Tuesday against reoccupying Gaza after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu suggested that his country could hold a security role there “for an indefinite period” once the war is over. “We’re having active discussions with our Israeli counterparts about what post-conflict Gaza looks like,” John Kirby, the White House national security spokesman, told reporters. Mr. Netanyahu, in an interview with ABC News, did not say who should govern the enclave after Hamas, which now controls it, is gone. President Biden previously said that it would be “a big mistake” for Israel to reoccupy Gaza, from which it withdrew in 2005. A post-conflict Gaza, Mr. Biden has said, “can’t be Hamas,” an organization whose founding covenant embraces “killing the Jews” and wiping out Israel.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Nashville Police Chief John Drake says he's “disturbed” over the unauthorized release of writings from the shooter who killed six people, including three children, at The Covenant School in March. Earlier Monday, conservative commentator Steven Crowder released what he said were three images of Audrey Hale’s writings from the day of the March 27 shooting. The news quickly sparked calls for an investigation as local and state leaders initially declined to verify the authenticity of the writings. Because of the lawsuits, police have since said they would await the direction of the court on whether to release Hale’s writings. Bill Lee said he has been “calling for clarity” around the Covenant shooter's writings for months, saying in a statement that he's been “frustrated” by the lack of transparency.

But the software also surfaced during the 2021 child pornography case of Josh Duggar, the former reality TV star from TLC's "19 Kids and Counting." Authorities have not disclosed any of Hale's journals or writings that were collected after the March 27 shooting at the Covenant School in Nashville. Police then reversed course, saying that because of the lawsuits they would await the direction of the court on whether to release Hale’s writings. “I am deeply concerned with the safety, security, and well-being of the Covenant families and all Nashvillians who are grieving," O’Connell said. Attorneys representing families with the Covenant School have repeatedly said they have not seen Hale's writings. Authorities’ refusal to release Hale’s writings has fueled further speculation and conspiracy theories about what they might reveal about Hale’s motive or influences.

Speaker Johnson and his son use software that notifies one of them if the other watches porn. It's actually rather common in religious circles, and there are several different apps for it. There are several different apps — known as "accountability" software — that allow for this sort of monitoring, including Covenant Eyes, Accountable2You, and EverAccountable. Speaker Johnson uses Covenant Eyes, and says in the unearthed clip that he has an accountability partnership with his then-17-year-old son. CNN —Nashville police say an investigation began Monday morning into three photographs that surfaced online of alleged writings connected to the March shooting at a private Christian school that left three 9-year-olds and three adults dead. The pictures of writings allegedly from the 28-year-old shooter, who was a former student at The Covenant School, were released by a conservative political commentator Monday. One page of the writings appears to be a day’s checklist, while another is filled with angry ramblings. It’s unclear how many more pages of writings there may be, and what the contents of other pages are. The shooter’s writings have been part of a monthslong legal fight playing out in Nashville over the release of documents and records related to the March 27 shooting.

A conservative political commentator published three photographs on Monday that appeared to show excerpts from writings by the shooter who killed six people at a Nashville Christian school, enraging parents of the surviving students and prompting an investigation into the leak. For months there has been a court battle over whether any of the assailant’s writings should be released, with the families of about 100 students who survived the shooting at the Covenant School in March having sought to prevent their publication. The larger trove of documents — which one city official quantified in court as “voluminous” — has remained with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department as the legal battle winds its way through the courts. But on Monday, Steven Crowder, the political commentator, published three photos of handwritten notebook pages that appeared to have been left behind by the shooter and reflected a hateful, calculated plan to target the private school and its students. The Police Department later confirmed that it was involved in the investigation into “the dissemination of three photographs of writings,” adding that the photos in question were not formal “crime scene images.”

What Is a Covenant Marriage?
  + stars: | 2023-11-03 | by ( Alyson Krueger | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
But with a covenant marriage, there are stricter guidelines for ending a marriage. Revelations concerning Mike Johnson, the new speaker of the House, and his own covenant marriage have brought the unconventional commitment arrangement into the spotlight. Covenant marriages are legally binding contracts or agreements between two people who have the intent to live together for the rest of their lives. Unlike traditional marriages, covenant marriages come with additional requirements, and ending one through divorce is more challenging. Traditional marriage allows a couple to enter the union by filling out a marriage license (among other state requirements), but with a covenant marriage, which is often rooted in religious or moral convictions, the couple must complete premarital counseling with a clergyman or therapist ahead of time.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Before House Speaker Mike Johnson was elected to public office, he was the dean of a small Baptist law school that didn't exist. “The law school deal was really an anomaly. As dean of the proposed law school, Johnson embarked on a major fundraising campaign and described a big-dollar event in Houston with former Arkansas Gov. Bobby Jindal and Pressler, according to an account Johnson wrote in a 2011 alumni magazine. Meanwhile, the historic former federal courthouse in Shreveport that was selected as the law school’s campus required at least $20 million in renovations.

He is commissioner of the International Committee against Death Penalty (ICDP). When I entered office in 2009, I quickly came to realize that use of the death penalty in Mongolia had been arbitrary, secretive and cruel. By the end of 2022, more than two-thirds of the world’s nations had done away with the practice, according to the Washington, DC-based Death Penalty Information Center. Research from Amnesty International found no evidence that the death penalty deterred crime more than life imprisonment. When I became Mongolia’s president, five crimes were eligible for the death penalty: two forms of terrorist attacks, sabotage, rape and aggravated murder.

Rep. Mike Johnson, the new speaker of the House, is in a "covenant marriage." Johnson told a reporter in 2001 that he had encouraged other friends to do the same thing. Under Louisiana state law, couples sign a document in which they agree to seek marital counseling before getting a divvorce. "A covenant marriage agreement may not be dissolved, rescinded, or otherwise terminated by the mutual consent of the spouses," reads the relevant portion of Louisiana state law. "Because so few people have chosen covenant marriage in Louisiana, it seems like an unpopular idea," he said at the time.

In Iowa, where evangelical Christians dominate the first-in-the-nation Republican presidential caucuses, Rowland and other pastors are delivering a message meant to resonate both biblically and politically. While curbing abortion has for decades energized Christian conservatives like no other issue, the attack by Hamas and Israel's response have put new pressure on Republican candidates to hew not just to traditional Republican support for Israel but to beliefs rooted in the Bible. Some Christians support Israel due to Old Testament writings that Jews are God’s chosen people and that Israel is their rightful homeland. Some evangelicals believe Israel is key to an end-times prophecy that will bring about the return of the Christian messiah. Daniel Hummel, author of “Covenant Brothers: Evangelicals, Jews, and U.S.-Israeli Relations," said that Republican support for Israel has become a proxy for other conservative priorities, particularly on immigration.

But his diplomatic efforts to meet with Arab leaders came undone after a devastating explosion at a hospital in Gaza. Biden himself initially supported the US 2003 war in Iraq only to end up as the president who ordered the US pullout of Afghanistan. “This is the politics that Donald Trump’s rhetoric has wrought among his supporters in the Republican Party,” wrote Avlon.

At the hands of Hamas, the Jewish people have endured horrors not seen since the Holocaust. My father hated that Hamas had dominated the conversation and positioned itself as the face of Gaza worldwide. Like many people from Gaza, my father knew that if you spoke up against these tyrannical oppressors, you were swiftly dealt with. Among the hard right, many people are conflating Palestinians with Hamas to justify the flattening of Gaza. The truth is, Hamas is not Gaza, and Gaza is not Hamas.
