But it's an issue for both parties — roughly even numbers of Democrats and Republicans became lobbyists. Congressional staff often develop expertise and connections from their time serving on Capitol Hill — assets that make them attractive hires for lobbying firms hoping to influence public policy. Additionally, the employment of ex-lobbyists as staffers raises the prospect that those staffers may be biased towards their former employers when formulating policy and drafting legislation.

A White House fact sheet from months ago showed how many people could have benefited. It showed the number of people who applied or were automatically eligible for debt relief before lawsuits paused applications.
