Airlines have scheduled a record 259.8 million seats for domestic flights in the fourth quarter, up nearly 8% from last year, on 1.86 million flights, up 6% from 2022, according to aviation-data firm Cirium. United Airlines said it expects to fly 5.9 million passengers from Nov. 17 to Nov. 29, up 13% from last year and 5% more than 2019. That means they could increase their inventory of cheaper basic economy fares during weaker demand periods, or raise fares when demand is high for premium seats.

CNN —Russia’s leading aircraft manufacturer says it’s completed a successful test flight of a new widebody passenger airplane that it claims could replace Western aircraft in the country’s skies. UAC, which oversees Russian aviation brands including Tupolev, Ilyushin and Sukhoi, said the plane will be capable of carrying up to 370 passengers, a capacity that would put it alongside the likes of Airbus’ A340 or Boeing’s 777. As of 2022, only 144 active Russian airline planes were built in Russia, according to data provided by aviation analytics firm Cirium. “Although Moscow won’t admit it, the sanctions that followed the Ukraine invasion have really damaged Russian aviation,” Murdo Morrison, head of strategic content at FlightGlobal, tells CNN. Addressing concerns, Russia’s Ministry of Transport said at the time that flight safety on Russia-operated aircraft meets international standards.

In the December quarter, Israel accounted for 1.9% of its planned global capacity, a Reuters analysis of Cirium data showed. Adjusted profit for the third quarter came in at $3.65 per share, higher than the $3.35 estimated by Wall Street analysts.

Air New Zealand has 16 A320neo jets in its fleet of 106 aircraft, servicing Australia and the Pacific Island markets and, to a much lesser extent, the domestic market. More than 1,500 flights were cancelled on Monday - a public holiday in parts of Britain, and one of the busiest travel days as the school holidays draw to close - when air traffic controllers were forced to switch to manual systems due to a technical problem. Economy seats account for 79.3% of seats between the U.S. and Europe, down from nearly 81.9% in 2018, before the pandemic, according to aviation data firm Cirium. Business-class seats' share of seats sold has grown slightly, from 12.9% to 13.5% though premium economy's share has increased even more, making up 6.4% of seats sold, up from 4.2% five years ago, while first class seats' share fell. Delta, JetBlue Airways , United Airlines , American Airlines , Finnair and Lufthansa are among the carriers that have recently announced upgraded first-class seats, suites with sliding doors or premium economy cabins. On rival United Airlines , a similar itinerary was nearly $1,850 in premium economy and $912 in standard coach. Business class easily tops $5,000 for that route.

As of 8:30 am ET, FlightAware tracking service reported there were 687 flights canceled and another 1,200 delays. Although that’s better than the 2,200 canceled flights in each of the last two days, or the more than 16,000 delayed flights between Monday and Tuesday, it’s hardly a smooth-running operation. Staffing shortageThe US air travel system is unable to recover quickly from widespread weather problems, because it doesn’t have the bodies to deal with the disruptions. The airline canceled 461 flights this past Saturday and Sunday and delayed another 1,972 flights, according to data from flight tracking site FlightAware.

Some carriers, particularly in Asia, think they will only fly at or over pre-pandemic capacity levels in 2024 or later. Airlines didn’t rehire quickly enough to support the sudden recovery in demand and are now overpromising and underdelivering. NEW DELHI, May 30 (Reuters) - India's aviation watchdog has put on hold requests from lessors to repossess planes from Go First, as the airline's bankruptcy process imposes a freeze on assets which supersedes such requests, the regulator said in a court filing seen by Reuters. Lessors of Go First have locked horns with Go First and India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to reclaim its planes for missed payments, filing as many as 40 requests with the watchdog to allow repossession. Go First's lessors include Standard Chartered's Pembroke Aircraft Leasing, SMBC, CDB Aviation's GY Aviation Leasing and BOC Aviation. India has ratified the treaty but the DGCA argued there was no local legislation enforcing it, rendering it ineffective. The DGCA filing said local laws "prevail over provisions of any international treaty that India is a signatory to".
